5 Co-Stars Who Dated and Broke Up (& 5 Couples Still Going Strong)

We all have our favorite celebrity couples, right? Well, if you follow any sort of celebrity media, you probably know it's pretty popular for co-stars to date each other. We've heard the age-old couples (insert Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth here), so we thought we'd make a list to remind you of couples that are so far into their marriage that you might've forgotten they met on set all those years ago. On the other hand, you also might have forgotten that some of your favorite celebrities used to date some of your other favorite celebrities, all while filming your favorite shows. So without further ado, here are 5 co-stars who dated and broke up, and 5 couples still going strong.

10 Broke Up: Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder

You've at least seen one episode of The Vampire Diaries, right? Well, you definitely know Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore. Then you might also remember Nina Debrov, who also had a massive role as Elena Gilbert. These two co-stars actually dated, after meeting on set in 2009, officially for a year before they split in 2012. Their characters remained love interests for two full years before Nina left the show. Anyone else wondering why?

9 Going Strong: Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Padalecki

If you're a fan of Supernatural, you're definitely familiar with Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester. However, do you also remember Ruby? She appeared in 11 episodes, and is actually now married to the Supernatural heartthrob. Yup, they met on set, and it was instant sparks. It's a good thing it worked out, right? Well, it did, and they've been married since 2010 and have three gorgeous children.

8 Broke Up: Blake Lively and Penn Badgley

We all likely know Blake Lively as Serena from Gossip Girl. If you're a fan of the show, then you definitely also remember Dan Humphrey, who is played by Penn Badgley. These two love interests actually dated for three years during filming - from 2007 to 2010. However, their relationship sizzled out, and yes, their characters actually got married on the show in 2012. Talk about awkward, no?

7 Going Strong: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Not that we're picking on Blake (because we love her), but even if we were mad about her and Penn, we definitely got over it pretty fast. Unless you live under a rock, you're familiar with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold's adorable and hilarious relationship. They tied the knot in 2012 and have two beautiful kids. However, did you know that these two actually also met on the set of Green Lantern? You've probably repressed this entire movie, if you made it all the way through, but at least something good came out of it all.

6 Broke Up: Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum

This break up is probably one that you're still not over. We all adore Jenna and Channing, like, how could you not? If you're a true fan, you've also definitely seen their lip sync battle where Jenna goes full-on Magic Mike (if not, you should check it out). However, did you know they met way back on the set of the dance film, Step Up in 2006? Well, they did, and these cutie pies lasted all the way up until last year. They even have one gorgeous girl, but these co-stars couldn't quite hold on. We're going to go pretend they still are, though, and watch Step Up with full ignorance.

5 Going Strong: Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes

You might've heard that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams dated after being co-stars on the set of The Notebook, and while the public still ships this couple, it's pretty safe to say that won't ever happen. In fact, Ryan met his current wife, Eva Mendes, on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines. They've been hitched since 2011 and have two children. Sorry ladies, he's been off the market for awhile now.

4 Broke Up: Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult

We all know and love Jennifer Lawrence, and you probably know Nicholas Hoult from X-Men, Tolkein, or Warm Bodies. Remember that J-Law is also in the X-Men franchise? Well, she was, and these two met on set of X-Men: First Class in 2011 and dated until 2014. However, these two still had to play nice for the newest film, X-Men: Apocalypse, where he still plays Beast and she still plays Mystique. They're all fine and friendly, though.

3 Going Strong: Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher

Saying that these two amazing people are married probably isn't news to you, but their love story is still one of our favorites and definitely had to make this list. While Mila and Ashton both had very separate acting careers, and didn't actually get hitched until 2015, you might have forgotten that these two actually met on the set of That '70s Show. Remember Kelso and Jackie? Then you probably also remember that these characters dated on and off the entire series. That was way back in 1998-2006, and these two didn't find each other again until years later! Not super usual for co-stars, but we're still so darn happy it ended up the way it did.

2 Broke Up: Kaley Cuoco and John Galecki

Our favorite sitcom The Big Bang Theory finally closed off its 12th and final season this year, in 2019. We know and love all of the characters, but what might not be common knowledge is that your favorite couple, Penny and Leonard, actually dated IRL. That's right, Kaley Cuoco and John Galecki met and dated on set for two years before calling it quits in 2009. Kaley has even been married and divorced since then, and their characters get married on the show. It's definitely a good thing these two managed to keep it friendly.

1 Going Strong: Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

Another one of our favorite shows, Game of Thrones, had its series finale this year. We had to say goodbye to heartthrob Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow. However, think all the way back to the second, third, and fourth season. Remember Ygritte? You must, because we are still gutted (spoiler) about her untimely death. Well, we have good news for you! These two actually dated in real life, and even tied the knot last year in 2018. At least there's some justice that came out of Ygritte's death, and these two are keeping love alive.
