Jamie Spears, Britney's father, has reacted to the #FreeBritney movement that continues to gain traction on social media.

While many people around the world would give anything to be rich and famous, the lifestyle comes with its own unique set of challenges. For the super famous, their time is never really their own. There are always paparazzi outside of their house, following them wherever they go, trying to catch a glimpse of them to snap a photo or, even better, spin a story.

Britney Spears is perhaps one of the best, or worst examples of that, depending on how you approach the sensitive subject. Back in 2007, the pop star had a very public meltdown during which she shaved her head. Following her breakdown, a conservatorship was put in place allowing her father and an attorney to control Spears' assets.

Not only does the conservatorship allow Spears' father and attorney to control how much money she spends, but they also dictate who she sees and can speak with doctors about her medication. 12 years later, the order remains in place, which has sparked something called the #FreeBritney movement online. Fans of the singer believe her father is using the order to effectively keep his daughter prisoner, and spend her money for himself.

Jamie Spears, Britney's father, recently spoke with The New York Post about the movement, rubbishing the claims being made against him. "Conspiracy theorists don’t know anything," Spears said during the interview. "I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year. How the hell would I steal something?" Spears has also taken a step back from the conservatorship due to health reasons, but as it stands will resume his role on August 22, 2020.

As for Britney, although she hasn't commented on the movement directly, she continues to post on social media claiming everything is okay. However, her fans continue to think otherwise. Some believe the singer had a hidden message in her eyelashes asking for help in one of her posts, and others are worried about the lack of appearances from her children in recent Instagram posts.
