The talented artist was found dead in his hotel room at the popular Muscat Hills Resort in Oman on April 20, 2018, leading to an outpouring of love on social media from his peers and fans alike. His publicist, Diana Baron, made the announcement. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given," it read.

According to Elite Daily, the Swedish media have widely reported that not one but two autopsies were carried out on the "Wake Me Up" hitmaker's body, both ruling out foul play as a cause of death. While an exact cause hasn't been made public, family and fans can take solace from knowing he wasn't subjected to anything at someone else's hand. It's up to Avicii's family to publicly announce the full details, should they chose to do so.

Many speculated that his passing could be linked to his ailing health over recent years. The DJ struggled with alcohol abuse in the past which had serious side effects on his health, leading to operations to remove his gallbladder and his appendix. He made the decision to retire from touring for his own sake. The star spoke openly about his struggles in the music industry. "It was always very hard for me," he told the Hollywood Reporter in 2016. "I took on board too much negative energy, I think."

His ex-girlfriend took to Instagram in the days following to post a heartfelt tribute to the young star. Avicii's own Instagram is now plastered with comments from fans. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
