If you've seen the latest Avengers movie, you should be well aware of how expansive things are right now. But before Marvel listened to fans' calls for the addition of more characters, there were only six superheroes assembled for the first film, which was released in 2012.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown a whole lot since then and the Avengers are now three movies deep, with another release already set for 2019.

That original six-member crew was made up by Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

They've since found a cool way to celebrate their six years together, as well as the release of Avengers: Infinity War, by getting matching tattoos and branding themselves with the "A" logo thanks to New York artist Josh Lord. Ruffalo, though, did not get one done, but he'll probably get in on the fun some other time, while Lord was allowed to get one himself.

Downey Jr posted some clips of the inking to his Instagram, and you could have a look below.

Evans was not around for this, but being the first Avenger and all, he'd already had his done in New York before Lord was flown to Los Angeles for this job.

“Five of the original six Avengers got a tattoo,” Downye Jr told Entertainment Weekly. “And the sixth was the tattoo artist, who gave it to five of us, the one who opted out being Mark Ruffalo.

"It was Johansson’s idea, and she and Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to LA, he did me, did Renner, and then we just bullied Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it.

"And each one of us drew a line on the artist with his own tattoo gun and it was a total massacre. Each of us contributed to giving the tattoo artist the sixth tattoo that he designed for us.

"By the way, he’s got another one on him that Scarlett did, which is beautiful, which is crazy, because the line she drew on him, which was just supposed to be a straight line, looked like a lightning bolt. It was a mess.”

It's a nice piece of solidarity from the original ensemble. For many comic fans, the fact that those characters appeared on the big-screen together at the same time was something special, and now, the cast has a way to remember that forever.
