Apple Music Coming To Echo Devices & Android TV

Apple Music is coming to Echo devices and Android TV this month!

According to The Verge, the service will be available starting on Dec. 17, 2018, joining others such as Spotify, Pandora, and many more streaming services. Amazon’s Echo smart speakers have been receiving an immense amount of praise since their release in 2014.

The same will work for Android televisions starting Dec. 17, 2018. Since Android TV supports various streaming services other than Apple Music, users can now use their Apple accounts to stream their favorite tunes starting this month. Although many believe that running Apple Music on an Echo may seem counterproductive to Apple’s usual strategy of using services as a lure for hardware, this will actually increase the number of users who will buy and stream from Apple Music than before.

The device itself already supports countless music services from Spotify, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and Pandora, however, many have been wanting Apple Music to join that list for some time now, and behold, their wishes are coming true! Apple Music users will be able to ask Alexa to play their favorite songs, artists and albums, by simply enabling the Apple Music skill in the Alexa app, link their account and bam, you’re sorted!

Considering music is one of the most popular features on Alexa, according to senior VP of Amazon devices, Dave Limp, it is a huge stepping stone that Echo will now support Apple Music. Limp continued to say in a statement: “We are committed to offering great music providers to our customers and since launching the Music Skill API to developers last months, we’ve now expanded the music selection on Alexa to include even more top-tier services”, referencing the emergence of Apple Music.

In addition to Echo supporting Apple Music, it was recently announced that Amazon would begin to sell Apple products from iPhones, iPad’s and products alike. Whether you’ve got an Echo or access to Apple Music or not, this is definitely a major move in the world of online streaming. With Apple branching out to more and more non-Apple product devices, we can begin to see the multi-billion-dollar company anywhere and everywhere from now on!
