Some sad details emerged regarding the nature of Anthony Bourdain's death.
Chef, food critic, and TV host Anthony Bourdain was found dead in a hotel room in France. He was there to film the next episode of CNN’s award-winning series Parts Unknown. A French prosecutor has officially reviewed the cause of Bourdain death.
Prosecutor of Colmar in France’s Alsace region has taken all the measures necessary to identify the cause of chef Anthony Bourdain’s death. The result was, as suspected- suicide. Prosecutor Christian de Rocquigny told The Associated Press on Saturday that the host of CNN series Parts Unknown used the belt of his hotel bathrobe. Monsieur Rocquigny confirmed that “there is no element that makes us suspect that someone came into the room at any moment.” He also mentioned that a medical expert has examined Bourdain’s body during the autopsy and found no sign of resistance. Toxicology tests are still being carried out. The purpose was to find out if Bourdain took any medication or not, with the hope to give his family some kind of closure.
Bourdain’s girlfriend, Italian actress Asia Argento, said in a statement: “Anthony gives all of himself in everything that he did. His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.”
This is just one of many unfortunate high-profile Hollywood suicides in recent years. Bourdain’s death follows fashion designer Kate Spade, who hung herself in her New York apartment. Earlier this year, many known celebrities took their own lives. The number of high-profile deaths has risen greatly in recent years— with many attributed to suicide. Many stars have pointed out that celebrities are just people, and just like us, they can suffer from mental illness.
CNN released a statement confirming Bourdain’s death on Friday. "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."
