It's no secret that the entertainment industry can be especially cruel when it comes to the physical appearance of a star, but Anne Hathaway isn't about to take unwanted criticism laying down. The actress has hit back at body shamers before the shaming has even began. Hathaway spoke about gaining weight - something she is purposely doing for an upcoming role. The 35-year-old Princess Diaries star looked sensational on the red carpet at CinemaCon last week, sporting a sleeveless embellished gown by Bottega Veneta.
The mother-of-one posted a workout video on her Instagram a couple of weeks ago explaining her weight gain and shutting down future body shamers all in one fell swoop. "I am gaining weight for a movie role and it's going well," read the caption. "To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it's not me, it's you. Peace xx PS - I wanted to set this to Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" but copyright said no. Continued peace xx."
Hathaway rocked the carpet in the striking white number, looking incredible and confident alongside her Ocean's 8 co-stars. It's not the first time that Hathaway has spoken out about her body shape, telling People that her post-baby body was different, but she accepted it. "I think shape is an ongoing thing in everybody's life," she said. "I'm not trying to recapture something that was. I'm going with what is now."
Although the media can be quick to point out when a star has gained a few extra pounds, movements like #METOO and Time's Up have seen an outpouring of positivity and female empowerment in the months after the Weinstein scandal broke.
Anne joins some big names for the upcoming movie. Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina co-star in the all-female spin-off of the popular heist comedy Ocean's Trilogy, while scores of other A-listers make cameo appearances. The film is set for release on June 8, 2018.
