The 90s were a wild time for many reasons, and the music had to be the biggest one. During the 90s, we’ve seen some of the biggest artists emerge such as Alanis Morissette, Nirvana, The Spice Girls, and NSYNC. Some of these artists are still active and successful today, creating music since they emerged during the 90s. Other artists, however, were either one hit wonders, or eventually creating music until they decided enough was enough, or decided to pursue other careers.

Since the 90s was such a huge time for music, many of the songs and artists made an impact on a lot of the music that we’ve come to know today, and you can hear those influences. Many of the artists of the 90s that have faded away are way overdue for a comeback, and we’d love to hear what kind of music they would create today with their knowledge of today’s music and what they lived through in the 90s.

From NSYNC to OutKast to Hanson, we’d love to hear some new music from these artists, and see them make an impact on today’s radio, not just the oldies channel.

These are 25 singers of the 90s who need to make a comeback ASAP.

Liz Phair

One of the best parts about music in the 90s was all of the girl power. One of the biggest women in music during the 90s was Liz Phair. She released her debut album, Exile in Guyville, in 1993, and has been named one of the greatest albums of all time. Over the years she has influenced many other great women in music, and we think it’s time for her to truly make a comeback.

Although she’s released music over the years, nothing can compare to some of her biggest hits of the 90s. She also toured for the first time in several years in 2016, and has started touring again this year. She’s a feminist icon that we need in the world that we live in today, so we can definitely say that it’s time for a comeback.

Natalie Imbruglia

When we think of Natalie Imbruglia, we tend to think of her hit cover of “Torn.” In fact, we can still hear that song on the radio today. Natalie is also an actress, and took a break from music to get some screen time again. In 2015, however, she made a small comeback to the music scene, releasing a new album titled, Male, which is an album of covers by other male musicians.

We think it’s time for Natalie to make an even bigger comeback, forget the cover songs, we want Natalie back with her own music, and we think the music industry is ready for her.

Jewel

Jewel is definitely one of music’s princesses of the 90s. She released her debut album, Pieces of You, in 1995. The album was a huge success, staying on the Billboard 200 chart for over two years, eventually becoming 12x platinum. She’s also dabbled in the acting world over the years, as well as speaking out about many causes and contributing to many charities, and starting her own charities.

She hasn’t had a release since 2015, but we truly think that it’s time for a really big comeback for the star. We’d love to hear Jewel on top 20 radio yet again!

A*Teens

The A*Teens re-introduced a whole generation to the music of ABBA, and during the 90s, we couldn’t get enough of them. In the past few years, the members of the A*Teens have been out living their own lives, going to school, still dabbling in the music world. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t miss them and their catchy covers.

With the recent installment of Mama Mia in theaters, what better time to bring ABBA back then right now? There’s a whole new generation of kids and teenagers that should be introduced to the songs of ABBA, which is a big reason why the A*Teens need to make their big comeback.

Matchbox Twenty

Matchbox Twenty was a big band of the 90s, and you could see that for a fact with all of their hits, as well as in their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, released in 1996, that was certified 12 times platinum. The last time the band released any new music was in 2012, with North.

In 2017 they reunited for a tour with the Counting Crows, but no announcement for new music as of yet. Back in the day, Matchbox Twenty had some really great hits, and we think they have the ability to make some more. We’d love to hear them on the radio again, wouldn’t you?

OutKast

OutKast has been known to put out some of the greatest songs of all time, like, have you heard “Hey Ya!?” It’s definitely a song that we can’t get out of our heads, years later. The guys of OutKast haven’t been together, nor made music in quite a few years. Their last release was Idlewild in 2006.

When we listen to the radio today, we can still hear some of OutKast’s famous hits, and we’d love to hear them again now, along with some new, catchy tunes. There were plenty of people who grew up with OutKast’s music, and now, we have a whole new generation waiting to hear it. So, let’s go, guys, we’d love for you to make a big comeback!

Vitamin C

When you think of the singer Vitamin C, there’s really only one song that comes to mind, and that would be “Graduation (Friends Forever).” It’s the song that you’ve heard a million times at the end of the school year, at graduation parties, singing along sadly with your friends. It’s a hit that no matter how old it gets, people are going to play it, no matter what.

Vitamin C hasn’t released a new album since 2001’s More. Vitamin C has kept herself busy, doing a little acting as well as songwriting as well as producing. In our opinion, we think it’s time for Vitamin C to make her own music again. Who knows, maybe she can have herself another big hit!

Mandy Moore

These days we might know Mandy Moore as Rebecca Pearson in the hit TV show, This Is Us. Recently, she’s been making us emotional watching her on TV, however, back in the 90s, she was cranking out the hits such as “Candy” and “I Wanna Be With You.” Although her primary focus has been on acting, and why wouldn’t it be when This Is Us has gained so much popularity as well as publicity?

With all of the buzz about the show, we think it would be the perfect time for her to make a comeback to music. She could be an acting and singing double threat, and if we were Mandy, we’d definitely think about it.

Avril Lavigne

Back in the day, it seemed like every girl wanted to be Avril Lavigne. With her take no crap attitude, and punk rock look, Avril Lavigne took over the music scene. Even though she made it big toward the end of the 90s, she still had that 90s influence and girl power attitude that we’d love to have back today. Although she has released music since then, nothing has been as popular as her debut music.

People seemed to be more interested in conspiracy theories that she had died and she had a clone, more than her actual music. We think it’s time for all that silly stuff to be pushed to the side, and we focus on some new music. What do you think?

Smash Mouth

When we think of Smash Mouth, we always think of their hit, “All Star” that has become more of a meme than anything else these days. Regardless, we still sang along whenever it came on the radio, and we still do today, even if we don’t always want to admit it.

The band hasn’t had a release since 2012’s Magic, however, the band has said that they’ve been working on new music. Even though it’s been a few years since any new music, we think that this is the perfect time for Smash Mouth to make their big, long-awaited comeback!

Destiny’s Child

It’s no secret that the reason why Destiny’s Child is no longer Destiny’s Child, is because of Beyonce being a wildly successful solo artist. Over the years, they’ve sold millions of records, and given us some catchy singles such as “Independent Women,” “Say My Name,” and “Bootylicious.”

Unfortunately for fans, the band decided to call it quits in 2006, and we’ve missed them ever since. Luckily for us, we had a taste of what we missed in 2013, when Beyonce performed during the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show, and surprised everyone with a brief performance as Destiny’s Child. Since then, we definitely think that it’s time for them to make a comeback, and we think they should consider it!

Hanson

When we think of Hanson, we almost always think about the ever so catchy hit, “Mmmbop.” Since the release of that song, the Hanson brothers have grown a lot, but one thing is for sure, we still can’t get “Mmmbop” out of our heads, no matter what. Although they’ve released music over the years since then, nothing has really had the impact or exploded onto the music scene.

Their last release was in 2017, a Christmas album titled, Finally It’s Christmas, but they haven’t released regular music since 2013’s Anthem. We think that it’s time for them to make a comeback and a breakthrough back onto the music scene. We want to hear Hanson on the radio again, and we don’t mean “Mmmbop.”

The Spice Girls

By far, the ultimate girl group of all time, The Spice Girls made every girl want to be them, and fight for girl power. They were a huge success, becoming the best-selling female group of all time. Their last release was Forever in 2000, so this has definitely been a long time coming. The girls reunited in 2012, performing at the Summer Olympics closing ceremony.

A musical was also created around their music, called Viva Forever!, much like Mama Mia with ABBA’s music. Fans could finally get their wish for the band to reunite, as rumors have been circulating about a possible tour in 2019. We’re all for a tour, however, we think it’s time for some new music too!

Vanilla Ice

One of the ultimate 90s rappers has to be Vanilla Ice. His hit song, “Ice Ice Baby” is definitely a staple of the 90s. Vanilla Ice definitely made a name for himself on the hip-hop scene, and definitely paved the way for many other artists after him. Vanilla Ice hasn’t released any new music since 2011’s W.T.F (Wisdom, Tenacity and Focus), instead trying his hand at reality shows such as Dancing with the Stars.

He even has his own TV show, The Vanilla Ice Project in which he renovates houses and does DIY projects. We’d love to see what kind of music he’d create today, and we definitely think he should jump back into the music scene.

No Doubt

Perhaps one of the best female-fronted rock bands, No Doubt was one of the best in the 90s. Fronted by now solo artist and superstar, Gwen Stefani, No Doubt ruled the airwaves for many years. With hit songs such as “Just A Girl,” “Hey Baby,” and “It’s My Life,” No Doubt paved the way for many other female fronted bands.

Having not released any new music since 2012, we think the band is way overdue for some new music. Gwen Stefani is an incredible front woman as well as a solo artist, and we think it’s time she joined forces with her bandmates again.

DMX

DMX is a rapper that was really big in the 90s, with hits such as “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” and “Get at Me Dog.” The rapper has released seven studio albums since his debut in the 90s, his last release being 2012’s Undisputed.

Over the years he’s gotten into quite a lot of legal trouble, going in and out of prison, and being arrested several times. We think that it’s time for him to put all of his legal trouble aside, and focus all of his time on making some music. We’d love to see what he’d come up with now.

Oasis

When we think about 90s music, one band that comes to mind has to be Oasis. Most known for their hit song “Wonderwall,” we still hear the song often on the radio. Liam and Noel Gallagher, two brothers in the band, had many issues, which ultimately led to the band coming to an end.

Their last album, Dig Out Your Soul was released in 2008, and not long after, the band came to an end. During their time together, Oasis made some amazing music. We really wish that the Gallagher brothers would put their differences aside and get the band back together. We’d love to hear some new music from them!

S Club 7

S Club 7 was a pop band that originated in England. Together, the band was very successful, having released four studio albums, selling millions of copies all over the world, and having hit singles such as “S Club Party,” And “Bring It All Back.” Unfortunately, in 2003, all good things came to an end, and they decided to disband.

Luckily for fans, in 2008 three of the members decided to come back together, forming S Club 3. We think that it’s time for the whole band to get back together as S Club 7, and start making new music again. We’d love to see what they’d come up with after being apart for so long.

Sugar Ray

Sugar Ray is best known for their hit singles “Fly,” “Every Morning,” and “When It’s Over.” Their single, “Fly” was what really gained them a lot of popularity, making them more of a mainstream band. Together, they went on to release six studio albums, their last one, Music for Cougars being in 2009.

The band has toured a few times over the years since then, however, they haven’t released any new material, nor have they talked about working on anything. To be honest, we really enjoyed hearing Sugar Ray’s music, and we still sing along whenever we hear them on the radio. We think it’s time for them to make some new music, and make the comeback we’ve been waiting for.

Alanis Morissette

When you think of the 90s, you most definitely will think of Alanis Morissette, as she was the ultimate queen of the 90s. Her album, Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995 was her most critically acclaimed album. Having not released any new music since Havoc and Bright Lights in 2012, Alanis has talked about potentially releasing new music, and working on it.

The “You Oughta Know,” and “Ironic” singer has fans that are anxiously awaiting new music, and honestly we are too. She’s a staple of the 90s, and we know that she is capable of creating amazing music, and we think it’s about time that she makes that comeback that she deserves!

Fountains of Wayne

You might know Fountains of Wayne as the band that brought you the classic hit, “Stacy’s Mom.” Although the catchy song was released in the early 2000s, the band actually originated in the 90s. Together, they’ve released five albums, with their last one, Sky Full Of Holes in 2011.

After that, the band came to an end, but in recent years they’ve admitted to not ruling out a reunion in the future. In all honesty, they’ve created some awesome music over the years, and we think it’s time that they make their comeback. We’d love to hear the follow-up to “Stacy’s Mom.”

Hole

Hole was a wildly successful rock band fronted by the one and only Courtney Love. Forming in the early 90s, together the band went on to release four very successful albums. Their last release was 2010’s Nobody’s Daughter, and since then the band has disbanded for the second time, the first time being in 2002.

Courtney Love is one heck of a frontwoman, and we think it’s time for her to get the band back together. In the music industry that we have today with so many powerful women, we’d love to see how’d she would fit in today, and what kind of music she’d make.

Hilary Duff

We all know Hilary Duff as a Disney Channel child star, and like many Disney stars, Hilary had a huge music career. Since the start of her music career, Hilary has released five studio albums, one of them being a Christmas album. Breathe In. Breathe Out was her last album, coming out in 2015.

Sure, she’s been busy working on music, but we’re still waiting for Hilary to release that one song that has us jamming much like her hit songs “Wake Up,” and “Why Not.” We’re ready for that Hilary to come back, and we hope that after the birth of her baby she’s ready to make the big comeback that we’ve waited so long for.

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson released her debut album, Sweet Kisses in 1999, featuring the hit single, “I Wanna Love You Forever.” Since then, she’s skyrocketed into superstardom, releasing seven studio albums, including a Christmas album. She’s also dabbled in the acting world, and reality television, as well as the fashion world, designing her own clothing and shoes.

Unfortunately, she hasn’t released any new music since 2010, instead focusing on fashion designing and her family. Jessica is an amazing singer, and we think she’s taken enough time away from the music industry, and we’d love to have her back and hear her on the radio yet again!

*NSYNC

Back in the day, *NSYNC was the biggest boyband in the world. Over the course of their career, they’ve sold millions of records, releasing only three albums. The band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2002, ultimately never coming back together, all of the members going off to do their own thing.

Fans have been begging for a reunion for years now, and got a taste of it during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, performing with Justin Timberlake before he received his Video Vanguard Award. Honestly, we think we’ve waited long enough! It’s time for an NSYNC reunion!
