Superheroes without a mask are a dime a dozen and yet, quite extraordinarily, no ordinary citizen in their respective universes ever realizes their true identities. As much as there are many actors in Avengers: Infinity War who look virtually the same as their real selves, there are still many more who are not easily recognizable.

Avengers 3 has been wrought with secrets and new elements to the movie were revealed by Marvel President Kevin Feige as late as February 2018. Not only is Thanos the biggest and baddest villain, but so will his accompanying entourage be, the Black Order.

Although Peter Dinklage’s role is still unclear, we do know the identities of most of the cast, so have a look at what these 20 Avengers stars look like in real life. Many of them are polar opposites of the personas that they portray on the big screen.

After watching the trailer, Sebastian Stan, who reprises his role as the Winter Soldier, summed the grandiosity and amazingness of the movie the best, saying: “I'm glad I made the trailer! It's wild, man. You've got 65 actors in that movie -- it's some of the actors I've grown up with and I've always idolized.”

With over 65 actors participating in the vast MCU, sometimes it might be easy to forget what they look like outside of the characters they portray.

Danai Gurira- Okoye

If it’s at all possible, Danai is actually fiercer in real life than Michonne in The Walking Dead as well as Okoye in Black Panther and now in Avengers. Whereas many stars have bad paparazzi days, where they are photographed in sweats, no make-up and just looking overall frazzled, Danai has quite literally never had such a day! In every picture ever taken of her off-carpet, she looks fashionably on point and always incredibly put together. She also isn't one to ever ignore fans and is often spotted taking a moment to sign some autographs or pose for a picture. She is definitely an inspiration both on and off-screen!

Although some might wonder if Danai is British, especially because of TWD, the truth is that she is a self-proclaimed “Zimerican” as she was born to Zimbabwean parents in America. Shockingly, she revealed to Glamour that she didn’t even know her real name until she was five years old: “I was given a nickname, Dede, that stuck before I was cognizant enough to have a choice in the matter. I remember the day my mom decided to tell me I had another name, one folks in our tiny college town struggled to pronounce.”

Beneficio del Toro – The Collector

When it comes to a big-time movie such as Avengers: Infinity War, keeping secrets is beyond impossible, especially as evidenced by Brolin’s slip-up. In a live-stream clip that has now been deleted, Josh Brolin inadvertently let slip that he would be filming scenes with Del Toro, as reported by Independent.co.uk. That revelation is kind of funny considering that director James Gunn originally completely omitted the fact that Thanos and The Collector would be making appearances in the latest movie.

Even in January, Jimmy Fallon managed to bait Chris Hemsworth into confirming del Toro’s appearance after naming a bunch of actors and ending with Beneficio del Toro’s name, to which Hemsworth nodded, adding: “and some”. Sneaky, sneaky Fallon! Although Beneficio is obviously keen on keeping his personal life private, he is nonetheless clearly a very involved father, often pictured out and about with his daughter Delilah.

Vin Diesel – Groot

Did you know that little Groot isn’t actually a revival of the original one we see throughout the entire first Guardians of the Galaxy movie? James Gunn, the Guardians’ director shockingly revealed the truth in a February 2018 tweet that sent fans reeling: “First Groot is dead. Baby Groot is his son.”

Fair enough, but what exactly does that make Vin Diesel, who technically voices both of them? We wonder if the director will even elaborate on this Inception kind of mind-bender. As for the three-worded actor behind the cutie, he doesn’t actually quite look the same way in real life as he does in the Fast & Furious franchise. #SorryNotSorry

He has definitely shown off a buff torso a number of times, but fact of the matter is that after shooting for the movies wraps up, he quickly regains his dad bod. The dad of three has reached the big 5-0 after all!

Pom Klementieff – Mantis

Playing a quirky role such as Mantis is no easy feat and yet Pom Klementieff nailed it in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Seen as Hollywood’s Next Big Star, Pom’s star isn’t about to dwindle anytime soon, especially as she reprises her role as Mantis in the next Avengers movie. In an interview with W Magazine, she said that the role made a world of a difference in her life: “And then my life changed. All of a sudden, people have more interest in meeting with you. There are so many people who love these movies and it has such a big following around the world.”

Talking about her Instagram account, Klementieff added: “I don’t want to post too much, because I still want to keep some privacy in my life.” She may try to keep it private, but with nearly 2k posts already, it’s clear that she enjoys the attention. Her interest in fashion also clearly shines through as she frequently posts pictures of herself modelling edgy clothing.

Paul Bettany – Vision

The true face behind Vision may actually come as a shock to many. Many superheroes merely have a different outfit to showcase their transition from seemingly normal to extraordinary, but in the case of Vision, there is quite a bit of special effects. After all, getting the pinkish/red/purple hue takes some careful mixing! Yet, despite technically having face paint on, Paul Bettany is still unrecognizable as Vision. Even more remarkable is the fact that he had no prior knowledge of the character prior to being cast, to the point of coming out of a meeting with a producer who basically told him that he would never work in Hollywood again.

Mere moments later, he received an unexpected phone call: “My phone rang and it was Joss Whedon and he said, ‘Do you want to play the Vision in the next ‘Avengers’ movie?’ And, I said yes. And I sort of looked up to heaven and thought karma’s very quick these days ... and [I] flipped the building behind me the finger,” he revealed to CinemaBlend.

In real life, Bettany, who also plays Marvel’s JARVIS, is a little more normal than the tortured characters that he play. Having settled down with actress Jennifer Connelly, his childhood crush since the movie Labyrinth, he has 3 children and likely aren’t about to have any more. As Connelly confided to Allure: “That's enough for us.”

Karen Gillan – Nebula

There are probably more pictures online of Karen Gillan shopping than movie credits that she has attributed to her name. Okay, slight exaggeration but it’s true that paparazzi catch Karen’s shopaholic moments quite often! Despite a couple of smaller roles prior, fans truly only fell in love with Karen once she was cast as Amy Pond In Doctor Who, first in the video game and then in the TV series.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Karen revealed some juicy information about the upcoming Avengers movies. Her character Nebula’s villain status and hatred of Gamora is no secret and yet when asked if Nebula’s “unfriendly outlook [would] make her a reluctant member of a [female] superhero team", she answered: "I don't know. You need to watch Avengers [Infinity War] and then make your mind up."

Josh Brolin – Thanos

Despite playing Marvel’s “biggest bad”, Josh Brolin shockingly revealed to Entertainment Weekly: “I’m the least educated person you’ll ever meet when it comes to this stuff. I knew nothing about Thanos. Nothing. And it was great. I got to start from scratch. I bring that up because you go, who is he? Kind of an amalgamation of people, to me. And who specifically? You want to really go out on a limb?”

He may have attained the big 50th birthday, but it’s clear that Brolin isn’t about to slow down any time soon. Not only has he had several very interesting roles lately, most recently in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Deadpool 2 and Everest, but the award-winning actor is also frequently photographed pumping iron. In 2016, he even married again, stating: “The best thing is I don’t understand when people don’t want to be around their wives. That’s the best thing, because I don’t really care to understand that.”

Dave Bautista – Drax The Destroyer

In real life, Dave Bautista is a big cuddly bunny. Bautista may not have had the same level of experience going into the first Guardians of the Galaxy movies as his fellow co-stars and yet he undeniably killed it as Drax the Destroyer, serving up some eyebrow-raising matter-of-fact statements in the most casual way. Despite having already gained a legion of fans as a six-time champion in the WWE, it’s clear that Bautista is working hard to re-vamp his career as a serious actor, even revealing to GQ that he no longer watches wrestling: “I can't watch it, I can't do it anymore, man. It's so oversaturated. That's why I stopped. The Monday night shows alone are like three hours long? Who wants to watch anything for three hours every week?”

Zoe Saldana – Gamora

Having had major roles in Star Trek, Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy and now the Avengers, Zoe Saldana’s acting career is truly incredible. As she confided to Hindustan Time: “I’d be lying if I say I don’t see things from that perspective. It’s quite natural that because some of the films I work in are so big, that people will know me and want to see some of the smaller films that I’ve been a part of. More than that, I think as an artist, it’s an amazing feeling to be associated with such a variety of projects.”

Yet, despite her busy schedule, she still managed to have three kids in the span of just three years, with the latest addition arriving in February 2017! But don’t expect her to ever get plastic surgery. She confided to Women’s Health Mag: “I'm very accepting with my age. It's like notches on your belt: experience, wisdom, and a different kind of beauty. There comes a day when you've become comfortable in your skin. But God as my witness, I am going to try to do everything I can to keep this [tooshie] together for as long as I possibly can—without going against nature.”

Peter Dinklage – Pip or Modok?

Out of all the details concerning the Avengers: Infinity War movie, the entire cast and production crew has been the most tight-lipped about Peter Dinklage’s role – or should we say, alleged role? Rumors have been swirling for a while now and although no one knows for sure that the Game of Thrones star will also have a role in the upcoming Avengers movie, it hasn’t stopped fans from piecing together the puzzle.

According to IGN, the first clue has been that the actor dyed his hair red, proposing that he might be playing “either Pip the Troll or Starfox”. There is also the chance that he might play either Modok, The Watcher or Mephisto. Still, most fans are leaning towards the possibility that he will be playing Pip the Troll.

Chris Pratt – Star-Lord

In real life, Chris Pratt is just as funny as his on-screen Peter Quill persona. His divorce from Anna Faris was just the beginning of the end of major Hollywood couples that no one would have ever guessed to be unhappy with each other and yet, it’s clear that he hasn’t let the separation get in the way of his professional career. In fact, he is still just as active (and funny) on both Twitter and Instagram, giving his fans frequents snapshots into his life and even trolling them once in a while. Appearance-wise, his Star-Lord role does him justice, although we wish there were even more shirtless scenes.

He definitely deserves more shirtless screen time given his rigorous diet videos of “What’s My Snack”, especially the part where he saves a tiny bit of olive oil pistachio cake for tomorrow.

Chris Hemsworth – Thor

Obviously, it’s kind of hard not to recognize the actor behind Thor as being Chris Hemsworth, especially after all this time of him starring in his own movies. Although his character unfortunately received a haircut in Thor: Ragnarok, it doesn’t look like his long blonde Viking locks have grown back just yet in the Infinity War movie. In all the Thor movies, his signature hair has been enough to majorly separate his on-screen role from his real life self.

But it’s a little tidbit that he recently revealed to Cinema Blend that has us wondering if his long hair was even reveal this entire time. “It was... yeah, I remembered being... with the eyepatch, the story unrolling, 'Yeah, cool, this is interesting.' And then the day that we put the eyepatch on I was like, 'This is ridiculous.' The thing kept falling off, and we didn't have the thing [gestures an eyepatch strap]. So it became a CG eyepatch, which I was stoked about... But I'm happy with that trade [for the wig]. It has its downsides. But the upside is that it's an hour less in hair and makeup without the wig on,” he revealed.

Mind blown! But what if the wig wasn’t actually a wig either?

Scarlett Johansson – Black Widow

In an interview with Cinema Blend, Scarlett Johansson let slip: “I just finished Avengers: Infinity War, the first one. My character has this ongoing relationship with Mark Ruffalo's character [Hulk], and I had such devastation that day. I don't know why. I was so devastated, and it was something about this character that Mark plays, and this something that should feel so solid and then suddenly doesn't, or there's... and then it reminded me of so much of the things going on in my own life at the time.”

After the last Avengers movie, Black Window’s on-going relationship with Hulk was made obvious, but her revelation has us crying at the potential outcome in the next movie. Despite being usually quite private about her life, it’s clear that she was making a reference to her divorce from Romain Dauriac in 2017.

Robert Downey Jr. – Iron Man

No doubt about it, Robert Downey Junior is the best man for the Iron Man role as his real self perfectly coincides with his on-screen persona. This couldn’t be more evident in every interview that he grants, especially when we look at the response he gave to his favorite scene from Infinity War: “My favourite shot in the movie has already been seen, and it’s when Thor, who’s just totally gnarled up, turns and goes, ‘Who the hell are you guys?’ and you cut to the Guardians [of the Galaxy]. I’m like sold,” he told the Toronto Sun.

He also continued: “If the whole third movie was that scene, we’re fine.”

He also very revealingly told EW: “Believe me, I’m tired of every movie, you know, ‘It’s the end! It’s Armageddon! It’s the Be All, End All, Forever!’ And then it’s … not. This one actually is. [Laughs] They’re not kidding. This is a heads-will-roll scenario.”

Benedict Cumberbatch – Doctor Strange

As crazy as it might be, Benedict Cumberbatch almost wasn't cast in Infinity War due to scheduling difference. Kind of hard to imagine Doctor Strange without him, now isn't it? Luckily, director Scott Derrickson put his foot down and decided that there was no way they could have any other actor playing his part, even though they had gone as far as to audition Ryan Gosling and Joaquin Phoenix. As reported by Express, the entire shoot was actually moved to accommodate the actor, but his body double still shot many of the beginning scenes, with Cumberbatch having to re-shoot the close-ups later. It’s kind of hard to avoid having him there given the central role he is said to play!

Unlike most actors, he actually got to read the entire script too. As he confided to Entertainment: “Maybe I’m just a bit more stupid than the other actors involved. I just need a little bit of special care. And they were very sweet, and chained me to something immovable whilst I read it, and unchained me after I finished reading it.”

In his private life, the actor is particularly renown for holding up political messages for paparazzi to photograph. In the same vein, his distaste of the photographs is also evident in the many pictures of him flicking them off or carefully stuffing napkins under his glasses to hide his face.

Tom Holland – Spider-Man

It’s not easy being a millennial! Talking about Holland after Avengers: Civil War wrapped up, with Anthony Mackie, who played Falcon, saying: “Listen, Tom’s a little [prick], alright? Tom has his own base camp, he has like an entourage, he’s a lot. He’s a lot to deal with.” We wonder how the cast of Infinity War felt about his fan base?

Despite having just entered his 20’s, there is something to be said about how Holland already has 5.7 million followers on Instagram and 1.32m on Twitter. Then again, he does post a lot and especially a lot of sneak peaks into the lives of his fellow co-stars, most recently being Chris Pratt. Unlike most celebs, his social media accounts are an open snapshot into his life, especially since he doesn’t hesitate to post shirtless selfies, modelling pics and just pretty much anything else that he is involved in at the moment.

Elizabeth Olsen – Scarlet Witch

No longer known as the Olsen Sister, Elizabeth Olsen has finally carved her own name in Hollywood. In fact, she didn’t even utilize her sisters’ connections when she decided to get into the acting business, landing an agent all by herself instead. Unlike her famous sisters, she also doesn’t hesitate to post to post regularly on her social media accounts, with everything from modelling shoots, all the way to pics of her just letting loose with friends.

When asked in an interview with Collider if we would be seeing more of Scarlet Witch’s reality bending abilities, she revealing answered: “You’ll have to wait and see.” By her interview, which she did alongside Bettany, it’s also very clear that Scarlet Witch’s and Vision’s relationship will be further developed in the upcoming movie, especially since she threw out the claim that they’re “soulmates”.

Mark Ruffalo – Hulk

Back in the beginning of February 2018, Mark Ruffalo tweeted a couple of words that sent fans into complete and utter shock. He captioned a picture of himself in a motion-capture suit on the Avengers set: “My last day on IW (Infinity War). The final exit."

No more updates have been given on that front, but if we dissect the Infinity War trailer, it does look like Bruce Banner falls, but the question on everyone’s mind is whether that will truly spell the end for our beloved character. It can’t possibly, right? It may not necessarily mean anything, especially since as Cinema Blend pointed out: “Mark Ruffalo has been doing this Marvel "thing" long enough to know that any clue he doles out to fans is going to be scrutinized. At the same time, this is the guy who leaked the opening to Thor: Ragnarok, and shared selfies from the landmark Marvel cast photo ahead of the Vanity Fair cover story, so his gauge for spoilers is all over the place.”

In a press conference for the movie, Ruffalo recently told ET: “It’s such a different universe. I think the core value of this film is its diversity and that they’re all stronger because of that diversity”.

Chadwick Boseman – Black Panther

After wrapping up his absolute hit of a blockbuster movie Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman wasted absolutely no time also getting some screen time in Infinity War. Not too surprisingly, Black Panther is now the highest-grossing superhero movie ever and only #5 as far as being history’s top-grossing films.

In an interview with Slash Film, he revealed the difficulty of combining each superhero’s different personalities into one movie: “You have to see the flavor of each one of them. So, I think what is good is that in this situation, you’re seeing them in my world. They’re in my world so it’s interesting to have them enter our space, which is not something that happens all of the time."

“And the Guardians entering it…obviously, there is a clash, all of that is conflict but it’s not conflict between us necessarily, so, but it is an emotional, psychological, social conflict,” he continued.

Aside for the Black Panther suit, Boseman looks relatively the same in real life and although it looks like he may have wanted to play Captain America, we're pretty sure that he's content with his Black Panther role.

Sebastian Stan - Winter Soldier

If Thor had to ditch his long hair, is it fair to say that so will the Winter Soldier at some point? He is set to appear in the untitled Avengers movie slated for 2019, so you never know! Speaking of hair, it’s not a look that the actor sports in his private life, opting instead of a shorter cut.

With as many major characters as there are in the upcoming movie, it can obviously be difficult to keep track of all of them, a fact made painfully obvious by Stan. He recently shared a now deleted image to Instagram of a Funko Pop for Corvus Glaive, saying he “still [doesn’t] know what character this is.”

The fact that it has been deleted just goes to show that it’s yet another secret kept tightly under wraps, especially since there is still absolutely no official information about the character. Although the Winter Soldier is anti-social, Stan for his part, doesn't hesitate to take pics with his fans.
