20 Embarrassing Things About Kit Harrington That Would Disappoint Daenerys

When it comes to Kit Harington, you know nothing, and that is exactly the way that he likes it. Game of Thrones is one of the best television shows around, not only currently, but of all time. If you don't like Game of Thrones even a little bit, then we honestly think there might be something wrong with you. It really is that good. One of the reasons the show is so good is Kit Harington's portrayal of Jon Snow. The character itself is amazing, but Harington does a truly incredible job in the role, walking the line perfectly between showing Jon Snow as a daring and brave hero worthy of being the King of the North, and of being sweet a sweet and sensitive person, in a bit over his head.

So who is Kit Harington really? Despite him being one of the most famous actors in the entire world, there is not a whole lot known about him amongst his fans, and our thought is that he wants to keep it that way. Just like the rest of us, there are more than a few things in his past that he doesn't want anyone to know.

So we dug deep and found 20 embarrassing things that Kit Harington would rather you didn't know.

20 He Auditioned With A Black Eye

When Kit first came in to audition for the role he was sporting a bit of a black eye from a fight. He has said he even thought the black eye might have helped get him the role. "I had a black eye as I'd been in a scrap. But I think it might have helped. You know, 'Who's the kid with the black eye?' I was completely new to them, but I looked the part – still had the black eye." The oddest part of the whole black eye story is that he got it at McDonald's. Seriously? How does that happen? The great Jon Snow getting in a fight because someone tried to nab his order of a Quarter Pounder with cheese at the drive-through window?

19 He Didn't Know His Hair Was Curly

This is one of the oddest things of all about Kit Harington, he honestly didn't know he had curly hair until he was on the show. Okay, first he doesn't know his actual name until he was 11 and now we find out he didn't even know that he had curly hair?

"I always had short hair before I did this, and then they went, 'Could you grow your hair and a beard?'

And I went, 'Well, I’ve never grown my hair, and I’m practically pre-pubescent in the facial-hair stakes, but I’ll give it a go!'" Can you even imagine the character of Jon Snow without having long hair? We certainly can't, it is as much a part of his character as his accent.

18 He Wore A Wig For The Pilot

Speaking of Kit Harington's hair, he had to wear a wig for the pilot episode, one that he says was pretty awful.

"I had a horrible wig on. The pilot really didn’t work. No one’s ever seen it, it’s in some back room somewhere, and I’d like it to stay there!"

I don't know about you, but I would love to see Jon Snow running around with an awful wig on in the pilot episode, but I don't think that will be happening any time soon. It really is amazing that not anyone, not even Kit, knew how cool his hair actually was until he finally decided to grow it out. I mean, it could have looked awful!

17 He's Shorter Than We Thought

Kit Harington is not nearly as tall as you might think. You know the thing about heroes, they are supposed to be tall dark and handsome. Well, at least Kit has one of the three down. It isn't that he is actually all that short, but with him standing at 5'8" tall, he isn't that tall either. There are occasional jokes in Game of Thrones about him being kind of short, and Kit has said he has met people who say he looks like Jon Snow but don't believe he actually is because the real Jon Snow is much taller then he is. Well, at least Kit gets to be Jon Snow for real when the cameras roll, and he gets to cash the checks for playing him.

16 He Broke His Ankle While Partying

It isn't like there are a whole lot of stories out there about Kit Harington being a big troublemaker, but it is obvious he does like to party a bit here and there. He had a broken ankle after trying to crawl into his bedroom window after a night of partying. Now most of us have done things like this, it is part of being young and stupid after all, and I mean at least he was trying to crawl into his own bedroom window, instead of someone else's. But still, being a huge star of a major television show and breaking your ankle because you're totally trashed is not a good look. Kit, lay off the sauce maybe? And also, stay out of McDonald's.

15 His Name Is Actually Christopher Catesby Harington

Do you think that Kit Harington would have gotten the role of Jon Snow if he auditioned as Christopher Catesby Harington? We think not. Don't blame him though, he didn't know his name wasn't Kit until he was 11. As he told CNN, "I didn't know my name was Christopher until I was 11. I went to school, you do these exams and I put down Kit Harington and the teacher said, 'That's not your name,' and I said, 'Yeah I think I'd know my own name!' They were like, 'No no, your name is Christopher.' I was a bit pissed off with my mum. You didn't tell me my name till I was 11!" We get it, we would be mad too.

14 He Is Claustrophobic

As you will see later on down this list, there a whole lot of things that freak out Kit Harington. One of them is that he is severely claustrophobic and has fears of being buried alive. So in the one episode called "Battle of the Bastards" where he was surrounded by people and almost crushed by the soldiers, he really freaked out. He said that he has more than a few things he is scared of "but the worst is [his] claustrophobia."

"I’m mortally afraid of crowds. I panic. It was one of the most terrifying things and most uncomfortable — 15 bearded Irishmen crushing you."

This was an intense scene and the fact that he had to face his fear while filming one of the most iconic scenes of the series just goes to show what a fantastic actor he is.

13 He Accidentally Punched Ramsey

One of the most, if not the most despicable villains in the history of Game of Thrones is Ramsey Bolton. It truly is amazing what an awful character he was. So even though Iwan Rheon is just an actor who played Ramsey Bolton, do we really feel all that bad knowing that Kit Harington actually punched him in the face for real a few times during fight scenes? He says it was an accident and that Iwan took it quite well, but we would like to think that he just smacked him for real. Ramsey Bolton was pure evil and just one of those characters that people despised, which truly shows what a good actor Rheon is. The funny part is, when Rheon was punched by Kit, he let out a smile that the cameras caught, and that was the footage they decided to use in the episode. Smirking while being punched on the ground is totally something Ramsay would do.

12 He Has To Keep This Rugged Look Until The Show Ends

Kit Harington is contractually obligated to grow his hair out. Can you imagine that? Even if you have totally cool hair, and there is no doubt that he does, obviously you would get tired of it every once in a while and want to cut it. Long hair can be a total pain. And even if you sort of liked your hair long all the time, it is more just the fact that someone is telling you that you have to keep it a certain way. Kit has said that he can't wait to cut it off, so after the show ends up shooting its final season, if you happen to see someone who looks a lot like Kit Harington except with short hair, then it is probably him.

11 He Is Afraid Of Spiders

A lot of people are freaked out by spiders, which I never really understood, to be honest. One would think that an actor that plays a role such as Jon Snow, a character that is heroic in every way, would not be afraid of something like a spider, but if you did think that, you would be totally wrong. He has come out publicly and said he is freaked out by spiders. When you think about all of the fights that Jon Snow has been in and all of the different enemies that have tried to beat him and failed, when all they really would have had to do is just show up with a spider and throw it at him and he would have run away screaming.

10 And He's Afraid Of Flying

Jon Snow might not be afraid of dragons, well at least not very much, but he is afraid of flying. He told Conde Nast Traveler

"Every time I get on a plane I have to touch the outside of the plane three times before I get in. I am [a nervous flier]. I've gotten worse actually. I used to love it, but now I imagine being 30,000 feet in the air. Each time I fly, it feels more unnatural. I get more jittery. It’s bizarre.

I used to love flying, and since I've been doing Thrones and traveling over to America a lot, I get really nervous about it and I don’t know why." Come on Kit! That isn't heroic at all. Pull it together and get on the plane.

9 He Doesn't Like Video Games

Okay, wait a second, is there anything Kit Harington is not afraid of? He told MTV,

"I'm not good at playing those things. I used to get terrified of Doom, and when I played this, I was pretty terrified of it. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to computer games."

Come on man, you really have to pull it together! Claustrophobia, being buried alive, spiders, flying — video games that really is quite a list, and this is just the stuff that he has told people about! Too bad he isn't afraid of crawling through his window after a night of partying.

8 He Told A Cop Jon Snow Lived To Get Out Of A Ticket

Anyone that is a fan of the show will remember the cliffhanger at the end of the season when it appeared that Jon Snow was dead. But it soon became apparent that he might not be true since there were all sorts of rumors out there that his character was still alive. At one point, he was pulled over for a speeding ticket and the officer came up to the car and said he would only let him off the hook if he told him whether Jon Snow survived or not. When Harington told him that he did, the officer said.

"On your way Lord Commander. Keep the speed down this far south of the Wall."

Talk about having leverage. Looks like Kit has power and respect on and off camera.

7 Sophie Turner Thought It Was For Real

Jon Snow dying wasn't just a secret to the general public, it was also a secret to other members of the cast. After all, if you are trying to keep something a secret, the smartest thing to do is to tell as few people as possible. One of the cast members who thought Jon Snow died for real was Sophie Turner, who actually wrote Kit Harington a long letter saying how nice it was getting to know him and working with him. He has said that he felt really bad lying to his friends and his cast mates about it, but he had to because the show's producers told him to. Oh well, at least he knows that Sophie really likes him now.

6 He Doesn't Like Social Media

What is your thing? Are you more into Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or are you possibly a Twitter person? While most people in Kit Harington's generation are total slaves to social media, he is not a very big fan of it. He said in an interview,

"I'm not a tweeter, I'm afraid. I have to talk about myself enough in publicity and stuff that I don't want to do it in my free time as well. Tweet about things, no, no thanks. It's not for me, I'm afraid."

We have to admit that Kit does have a certain style all to his own. He doesn't seem to care much, if at all, of what people think of him and seems to know who he is. Because he's Kit, though, he's constantly being asked by fans to take selfies and he's nice enough to do it.

5 He Does What He Has To Do For His Craft

While there are many actors who simply refuse to do nudity while they are on screen, Kit Harington is not one of them. He told GQ, "It’s only right, if you’re going to make a show where nudity and [intimacy] is a large part of it, that you be a part of that." We do have to admit that it is one of the many things that makes Game of Thrones so appealing — it makes it all the more raw. Whether the characters are being intimate with one another, or simply walking through the streets of Kings Landing, you never know when someone has to shed their clothes to make it seem all the more real. Fortunately for Kit, he didn't have to do too many scenes like this in the series.

4 He Doesn't Like Downton Abbey

While there are many things that Kit Harington does like, one of the things that he doesn't like at all is the show Downton Abbey of which he has said,

"I really disagree with Downton Abbey on lots of levels. It celebrates the class system, and its overall message seems to be, 'Wasn't it good when everybody knew their place within society?' Why should we hark back to those times? We got out of that."

While it might also be a theme in Game of Thrones, there are a few characters. Lots of characters want to have more at the expense of others. While Jon Snow would be the King of North, he only wants to protect people, not exploit them. The funny thing is, his fiance, Rose Leslie,

3 He Used To Work In A Bookstore

Interestingly enough, the actor that plays Jon Snow used to work in a bookstore, and of course Game of Thrones is based on a series of novels by George Martin. He said,

"I used to have to lug down the books and George's always sold like hotcakes, so I was constantly having to re-stack them and they were just so heavy because they're so huge. I remember cursing him. I've told him this many times. I couldn't stand that I was constantly having to carry down and replace all these books."

This is the kind of story that is almost too good to be true, to go from cursing George Martin to starring in a show based on his books.

2 He Loves Horror Movies

This one is kind of odd, for someone who is scared of pretty much everything under the sun, it seems that Kit Harington is also a big fan of horror movies. He told MTV,

"I love horror movies. I really do, I'm a big horror-movie fan. I can tell you what my favorites are. I love The Shining. I love The Wicker Man. I love The Ring. I love [David] Lynch as well. I could not get through Inland Empire. I tried to watch that movie three or four times. I can't get through it. It's too scary."

It truly is a funny thing how so many people who are scared of so many things pay money to be scared watching a movie. I guess he's in for the adrenaline rush.

1 He's A Big Harry Potter Fan

Another thing you might not know about Kit Harington that he might not want you to know is that he is a big fan of Harry Potter. He even wanted to audition for the lead role, but was a little bit too old at the time. He's said in the past that if were to be sorted in house by the Sorting Hat, it would have been Griffindor.

“No one wants to be in Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw is boring, Slytherin is full of psychos as people know.”

I have to say, I can't imagine Kit Harington playing the role of Harry Potter, but that is probably because he does such a great job as Jon Snow, it would be hard to imagine him doing anything else. It will be interesting to see what the final year of Game of Thrones has in store for us, and even more interesting to see if we find out any more things about Kit Harington that he simply does not want his fans to know.
