Emma Watson became an instant success at the age of 11 for her role as Hermione Granger in the massively popular pop culture films Harry Potter. Emma basically grew up with the films and in the spotlight and because of that any controversial things like growing up, becoming an adult and changing her hair which brought quite a stir as people realized that young Watson was no more. Now that Emma is 28 years old, she has matured and gone on to different roles that show Emma in a whole different light but lately we haven't heard much from her. Well, it's all due to Emma taking some time off to focus on feminism and the fact that she's being portrayed in the media for her stance on feminism. Everyone thinks that Emma is all sweet and innocent but in actual fact Watson is actually considered a diva because of how she acted on the red carpet and Emma didn't even seem all that interested in the award!

There was also a lot of drama about Emma turning down the role in La La Land because of high demands but Emma made excuses and said it was due to conflicting schedules. Watson's latest movies, especially The Circle, has been a flop at the box office and Emma also isn't afraid to speak her mind as she shares all her beauty secrets which is way too much information. All these reasons make Emma not really stand out in Hollywood and to be honest it appears they might drop her!

Not So Sweet After All

In 2017, a different side of Emma was revealed to the world since normally Watson is portrayed as a sweet innocent woman but her actions at the ELLE awards suggest otherwise as Watson was accused for displaying diva like behavior. The actress was awarded the Woman of the year award but seem uninterested in receiving it which is total diva behavior as it's almost like Emma thinks she deserves better. That's not all as Watson also arrived 90 minutes later and she even refused to walk the red carpet with other celebrities. It gets worse as Emma made demands,

"She also insisted on only having her picture taken in a special room with her chosen photographer rather than alongside all the other stars at the bash. She was behaving like a diva."

Emma also made a speedy exit after receiving the award and left the venue alone and didn't even want to make conversation with the guests. There was a party after the event but Watson wanted nothing to do with the celebrations. Acting like a diva isn't required especially at an event when there's other celebrities as now Emma's true personality was  revealed and now she's in the media negatively instead of positively.

Her Year Off

The actress confirmed back in 2016 that she was taking a year break from acting because Emma wants to focus on her work and yes even reading.

“I almost thought about going and doing a year of gender studies, then I realized that I was learning so much by being on the ground and just speaking with people and doing my reading."

Emma also told Time magazine that she wanted to read a book a week and focus on her feminist book club, A Shared Shelf. Watson also wants time off as she is a UN ambassador for HeForShe and will prefer focusing her energy on that instead of acting. "I’m reading a lot this year, and I want to do a lot of listening. Listen to as many different women in the world as I can.”

Emma hasn't been in any projects since Beauty and the Beast and The Circle and has nothing set for this year. Watson seems to love the break, “It feels as if sometimes I'm struggling to keep up with myself. It's a really cool period of time for me. My work that I do for the UN is all very clearly outlined, but my personal views and opinions are still being defined, really.” The question now though is whether or not Emma will make a comeback?

Emma Has A lot To Say About Beauty And The Beast

There has been so much feminism talk in the media about Watson's feelings about the Disney remake. She wanted to turn Belle into “the kind of woman [she] would want to embody as a role model.” Emma wasn't even going to accept the part if she didn't have a collaborative process with the director. The director even let Emma turn Belle into an inventor just like her father is in the film. Watson even made changes to the wardrobe. Emma also is quite picky with her roles — it seems as she turned down the part of Cinderella. "But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did."

"The first shot of the movie cannot be Belle walking out of this quiet little town carrying a basket with a white napkin in it. We need to rev things up!"

Watson even changed the shoes from ballet shoes which were evident in the original sketches to riding boots as Emma confessed Belle won't do anything useful with ballet flats. Watson is even incorporating her beliefs into her acting career and making changes. Not many people would like that!

Latest Movies Have Been A Flop

Emma's movies have mainly been a success and have brought in over $8.4 billion at the box office worldwide but lately Watson's movies have been experiencing massive flops and not doing well at all. The worst was The Colony as it only made £47 million in England and that was the first week therefore only about ten people went to see the movie. The movie wasn't really made for the big screen though and instead was targeted more for the small screen such as a laptop and TV. It's a step downwards for Emma though as her movies have mainly always been made for the big screen such as Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast, and Noah and then Emma takes risks by choosing small screen roles. Another film that Watson starred in, The Circle, was also in the press because of bad reviews.

The film bombed during the first week at the box office and critics said even Emma failed to entice the audience with her performance.

There were also a lot of problems with filming such as re shooting some scenes mainly the ending. Watson is used to her films being a box office hit especially because of Harry Potter but now that those days are over the films Emma has been in don't match up to that level of success.

La La Land Controversy

Watson was set to film in the musical comedy which did really well at the Oscars including a best actress win for Emma Stone. If Watson took the part she may have even won the Oscar. The dilemma though is there's two sides to a story as according to reports Watson didn't take the part because she didn't like it.

“Emma began making all these crazy demands, like rehearsals for the film must be done in London. They jumped through hoops to make it work with her, but she just didn’t feel the film was right for her.”

Watson said she was too busy to film the movie. “I knew this wasn’t a movie I could sort of step into. I knew I had horse training, I had dance training, I knew I had three months of singing ahead of me, and I knew I had to be in London for that. I had to be where I had to be. Scheduling-conflict-wise, it didn’t work out.”

Watson also admitted that she was committed to Beauty and the Beast. Emma did mention London in her gruelling schedule which explains why she wanted the film done there. Miles Teller was also offered Ryan Gosling's part and according to the source, "Now both Miles and Emma Watson are raising hell with their agents for not securing the roles for them — even though it was the actors’ fault for being too demanding."

Emma's Beliefs

The actress has become more well known for her stance on feminist beliefs then her acting since the majority of the time Emma rambles on about her beliefs instead of talking about her movie roles and even when Watson does talk about her movie roles it always ends up being about feminism as well. Emma really feels for this subject matter but there should be a limit on preaching beliefs to the public. Everyone is definitely taking notice as Watson was made UN ambassador for HeForShe in 2014 and she has made a lot of speeches as to why she supports feminism.

“We want to empower women to do exactly what they want, to be true to themselves, to have the opportunities to develop. Women should feel free. There is no typical feminist, there is nothing anywhere that says you have to meet a certain set of criteria.”

Since Emma is constantly in the spotlight for her beliefs, she is also under crossfire more if she does anything wrong like for instance, the controversial Vanity Fair photo shoot. Emma was exposed in the photos and the public immediately said Emma isn't portraying what she's saying about her feminism beliefs. Watson fought back in interviews and said, “It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality.”

She Is Way Too Picky When Choosing Movie Roles

The film industry is changing in modern times as a lot of movies are now being made and streamed on Netflix. The most popular streaming company isn't afraid in what is shown on their movies as there is hardly any censorship and they can be quite revealing. Many actors also take on roles in Netflix movies to add to their resumes and it shows they not picky with the work they do. Emma on the other hand is to picky and she even admits this when deciding on accepting the role.

"It usually comes down to two things: the person I’m working with — the director is really important to me — and a line in a script." Watson admits that if there isn't a line that makes her want to tell the story she would rather not do it. "And if there isn’t that line, even if the story is great, I’m always a bit meh."

As mentioned before, Emma turned down the role of Cinderella because she preferred Belle and felt she could relate to that Disney princess more. Sometimes, actors shouldn't be too indecisive because the industry will take notice after a while, and since Emma has so many demands, directors may not approach Emma with movie roles anymore. Emma also gets everyone to read the script for her including the person who does Watson's manicures to help her make a decision!

The Public Isn't Impressed Anymore

When you're a child actor it can be tough as you become famous and you have to grow up in the media. This is the case for Emma and when she was young Watson was seen as a role model during her Hermione days but now the public isn't so interested in Emma anymore which can be detrimental especially when you want to remain a A-Lister in Hollywood. The biggest fiasco happened last year when Emma was booed at the Beauty and the Beast premiere. Watson didn't even care about her fans as she didn't even acknowledge them. Normally celebrities take this moment to interact with their fans especially since they wait for hours to just get a glance of their role model. Well, fans were disappointed with Watson's behavior.

"Though the longer they waited, the more they realized she wasn't coming despite other cars arriving."

Watson wanted to sneak into the venue which she did via the back door but fans managed to see her. "The vehicle doors opened and the crowd booed her." One fan even screamed out, "Too much of a diva to stop now are you?" The only time Emma signed autographs was outside the after party,

Emma Made It Difficult to film Harry Potter

During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last year Watson admitted how she was during the filming of Harry Potter and that they had to do a lot of re takes. Watson confessed that she would learn her lines and also learn Daniel Radcliffe's and Rupert Grint's as well and then mouth their lines while the camera's were rolling. "I created issues because of this. I would ruin takes!" The directors would get annoyed because lets face it Emma was ruining the filming which can be time consuming. Watson revealed why she did it: "I couldn’t help myself, it was like, I was such a loser. I really loved those books, I really wanted to do my job well, and I kind of overdid it." That's not all — Watson wanted to quit after filming the fourth instalment because she couldn't handle the filming schedule.

"I have such a structure when I’m working on Potter. I get told what time I get picked up. 'I get told what time I can eat, when I have time to go to the bathroom. Every single second of my day is not in my power."

Watson admitted it was the most intense film making she's ever done. Luckily Emma didn't quit but wanting to give up when you've signed onto a franchise is not good especially in Hollywood since it's expected of actors to be okay with filming requirements.

Directors Don't Think Emma Can Do Adult Roles

In an interview, Watson admitted that she thinks she doesn't get any leading roles because she refuses to act a certain way in a movie and Watson also believes that because of her innocent look, directors overlook her for these roles. "Sometimes, I have a hard time convincing directors that I can play more adult roles." Emma also wasn't happy with the roles she was offered. "I was being offered roles that I didn’t feel were very complicated. Women that were one dimensional. Roles that required me to be one thing, but real women never are." Emma hasn't really had a mature role even though her characters in Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring were rebellious. Watson's role in Perks of Being a Wallflower was a college student and she played a teenage gang member in The Bling Ring.

In The Circle, Emma was a worker at a technology company and it wasn't very mature as Watson wore conservative clothing and didn't do anything rebellious in character. Emma also played a Disney princess which is another role that isn't mature at all. Watson is all grown up now and she should be getting more adult roles instead of acting as a teenager or in her young twenties.

Watson Has Slammed The Industry

To make matters worse, Emma has even made accusations in regard to her feelings of what she sees the film industry is like. "I have experienced sexism in that I have been directed by male directors 17 times and only twice by women.

Of the producers I've worked with, 13 have been male and only one has been a woman. But I am lucky: I have always insisted on being treated equally and have generally won that equality."

Watson has also admitted that she was treated differently from her male co-stars. It's something you don't want to be really talking about in so much detail as directors and producers are the ones that work with actors and they can give you a bad or good name in the industry.

Emma even says that women are to blame as well. "The men at the top often find it difficult to relate to a lot of the problems women face and therefore we aren't taken very seriously. Yet, women are just as guilty of discriminating against women." Emma also admits how women are in the industry "can be incredibly prejudiced against each other." Watson admires the directors she worked with on Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Circle as she says they believe in feminism just like she does.

She's Not Scared To Refuse Things

Another issue that Emma had with Beauty and the Beast is the fact that she had to wear a corset and Watson was totally against it. It's strange that Emma would be against it, especially since it was a trend and even Gigi Hadid donned the look. Emma claims that she didn't want Belle to wear the corset since she didn't want her to be portrayed solely for her beauty. Watson wanted it changed and she got her way as she worked with the costume designers on set and got Belle to be a skilled inventor and be a pro at horseback riding instead of wearing a corset. For years, Belle was portrayed differently and now the character's look has changed thanks to Emma. Watson has also refused to do beauty campaigns, which she once did, because she feels that women aren't portrayed properly in the advertisements.

"Many artists often have limited control of how their image is used once an endorsement contract is signed.

However, my client no longer participates in advertising beauty products, which do not always reflect the diverse beauty of all women."

Calls Herself An Imposter In The Industry

Actors don't normally feel uncomfortable with their acting as it is their job and it's expected to be confident since you're in the media constantly and on people's TV screens around the world. Emma doesn't feel confident at all and even calls herself an imposter. "When I was younger, I just did it. I just acted. It was just there." After some time, it really affected Watson. "I was in my hotel room, thinking, I can’t do this. I was just terrified." Emma hasn't found peace from acting but instead from her role as a UN ambassador.

"I understood what I’m here to do and knew where to channel all this energy that has been coming at me. I now feel this sense of peace. People say that I’m different since I did it."

Normally, when a celebrity is rewarded with an award they are incredibly pleased but not Watson which is also strange. "So now, when I receive recognition for my acting, I feel incredibly uncomfortable. I tend to turn in on myself. I feel like an imposter. It was just something I did." Emma blames the attention she received from her Harry Potter days but when you're in the industry you need to be confident!

No-Fan-Selfie Policy And Social Media Rules

Yes it must be annoying being constantly harassed by fans asking for photographs but it's part of the job description and many celebrities are aware of this and don't let it get to them. Emma has totally stopped it and doesn't want to do it at all. The reason why is because of photo tracking purposes.

"If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within two seconds they've created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 metres. They can see what I'm wearing and who I'm with. I just can't give that tracking data.”

Watson has to pick her moments and not when the fans want it. "I have to carefully pick and choose my moment to interact.” Fans can have a chat with her but when you meet a celebrity you want the photo as a memory! Watson let's children take photos as she believes they won't post it on their social media and she can't say no to them.

Many celebrities are active on their social media and they even display their personal lives, but Emma doesn't want to do that. Fair enough, but interacting with the public is extremely important when you want to stay famous. Emma has some strong thoughts about social media. "Your whole life becomes how something looks instead of how something feels. And there's such an emptiness in that."

Reveals Way Too Much In Public

Emma hasn't shied away from dishing advice about really private female stuff which you wouldn't ever recommend in public especially when you're a celebrity. Watson dished advice on a beauty product every woman should use for their grooming needs.

"I use fur oil. I’ll use that anywhere from the ends of my hair to my eyebrows."

and Emma even mentioned she uses it for a part of the body which you wouldn't want to reveal in public. Emma may keep her life as private as she possibly can, but in interviews, not so much. Watson shares quite a lot, especially when it comes to party ways. "I will be there and I will be throwing a huge party and getting very drunk." Emma confessed this is what she would do in celebration after graduating. While we don't blame her for wanting to celebrate and act her age, since many of her fans are young girls, she really has to be careful what she says in public.
