15 Reasons Why Black Panther's Shuri Outshines Tony Stark

We’ll try to make this as short as possible, because if you have seen ‘Black Panther’ once (or twice) then you already know just how great Shuri is. And, if you haven’t seen what is hailed as one of the greatest Marvel films and is one of the fastest films to hit $600M (Technically it comes in second place after ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ of course) then get yourself to the theatres now!

The film stars one of the greatest superhero scientists, and her name is Shuri. She outshines Tony Stark not only because she’s a princess, but also because she has so many other admirable qualities. Actually, she pretty much outshines everyone in the film, because she is just that good. Oh, and of course she saves the entire planet from WW III all at the ripe old age of sixteen.

Meanwhile Tony Stark, a.k.a Iron Man, saves the world while alienated and upsetting all the people around him. And, as a playboy rich kid, we can’t imagine that he was doing anything useful with his time when he was sixteen. Shuri, on the other hand, is a perfect role model for all girls. She’s the type of superhero young girls can look up to her and say, “Wow, I could see myself being like her, she’s so cool.” Or, if you’re a psychology professor at Tulane University you’re probably finding yourself saying the exact same thing. Tony Stark might be cool, but do you really want your sons wanting to grow up to be like him? After reading this you’ll probably want your kids to grow up to be more like Shuri (who is just a better superhero) anyway.

15 Thanks To Her, Wakanda Is Technologically Advanced

Travel to Wakanda and you’ll find a country, unlike anything that you’ve ever seen before. Trains are on time and travel underground at super fast speeds. Technology is far more advanced than even Google’s headquarters. And, the monarchy works to improve the life of their people. One of those royals includes Shuri. She’s a princess who is at the helm of Wakanda’s innovations. They’re pretty astonishing.

Tony Stark, on the other hand, prefers to create technology that benefits him. There are the few moments that he tries to save the world from super villains. Yet, he’s not trying to improve the lives of the people in the city on an everyday basis the way that Shuri does. Who knows, maybe she’ll rub off on him.

14 Her Inventions Are Cooler

Okay, so we know that Tony Stark is a genius billionaire who makes cool gadgets. Yet, they’re no match for Shuri’s. I mean, the girl made sound-absorbing sneakers for goodness sake. Then to add to her ‘cool girl factor’ she made vibranium cars that are safer (and cooler looking) than anything on the road these days. And, she created a system where she can join in on any mission at the blink of an eye.

While Tony made a suit that can fly to him, Shuri’s suit doesn’t need to do that, because it can just disappear. That way people only need to use it when absolutely necessary. Sorry, but there’s a new Marvel superhero genius on board and we’re all in love with her. There’s a reason that she doesn’t need to be humble about her genius.

13 Her Inventions Helped Build Her World

Lying beneath Wakanda is vibranium. It’s the material that has allowed Shuri to create exciting inventions that keep her world ahead of the pack. She uses that not only to create awesome gadgets for their mission, but she also uses it to advance her society. She created a bullet fast transit system so fast that you'll miss it if you blink.

Sure, these underground trains can be found in real life, but they’re not anywhere nearly as fast as Shuri’s. She’s not interested in keeping her technology all for herself. She’s looking for ways to use her intelligence to improve her country. She understands that her genius would be nothing if she didn’t have vibranium at her disposal. So, by improving their society, it’s her way of giving back.

12 And, She Can ‘Fix’ People

Another way she gives back is by not letting people die. It’s almost as if there isn’t anything this girl can’t do. Well, actually there isn’t. Tony Stark could only offer physical therapy when agent Everett Ross took a bullet to the spine. Shuri, on the other hand, was able to do much better.

She saved his life. “It’s not a miracle,” she quipped. “It’s science.” She can save someone’s life, and does so with snappy little quotes that only make you love her more. Not even the best doctors around can outmatch Shuri’s genius when it comes to helping people live from fatal bullet wounds. Tony doesn’t have the technology to help fix his friend, even if he wanted to.

11 She Defies Stereotypes

What was so great about Shuri was that she wasn’t a marginalized character. She wasn’t just a sassy sidekick or a woman who was degraded from being able to control her own destiny. She created her destiny. She's smart, stood up to people, and she wasn’t afraid to let people know it. She was a princess, but her title didn’t define her in the typical ‘Disney princess’ who needs to be saved way. Then, to add to her title, she was also a scientist.

This Wakanadan princess smashed stereotypes about what being a princess meant. Actually, she redefined what women could be in pop culture films just in general.

10 She’s The Smartest Girl In The World

The smartest girl in the world is a 16-year old girl and her name is Shuri. While comics have given us plenty of smart women, most of them seem to be sidekicks and play second fiddle to someone else (usually a male character). Also, none of them played teenagers. So, for a young black girl to be the smartest person in a Marvel film is kind of a big deal.

Actually, for anyone to be the smartest person in the world is kind of a big deal, but even more so when you’re so young. Shuri shatters stereotypes that women aren’t as smart as men when it comes to science. Her brain and technological inventions can outshine anyone in the world and that truly makes her special. And, the best part is that she knows it.

9 And Smarter Than Tony

As the smartest girl in the world, Shuri is way smarter than Tony Stark. Producer Nate Moore even stands by this belief that the young princess is smarter than the tech billionaire.

“As far as technologically advanced side, in our mind, and in our incarnation, Shuri is the head of the Wakanda Design Group. She’s the smartest person in the world, smarter than Tony Star, but she’s a 16-year old girl, which we thought was really interesting. Again, black faces in positions of power or positions of technological know-how, that’s a rarity. So, it’s something that’s a big part of the film.” Sorry, Tony, but even the producers of the film know that Shuri’s genius puts your IQ to shame.

8 And, Her Home Base Shows This

Have you seen Shuri’s home base? It definitely throws shade at Tony Stark's base. Tony’s lab looks awesome until the moment that you see Shuri’s Wakanda lab. Then it looks more like a four-year old’s stack of Legos.

Her lab is fit for a Disney Princess (which she is by the way) and it’s definitely one of the most awesome places that the Marvel movie universe has given us a peek into. It’s just an unfortunate side effect of being compared to the smartest girl in the world, who also happens to be a princess. Her lab unleashes cool gadgets such as a mask that absorbs kinetic energy to take down enemies, dissolving suits and other technologies that help her world be a better place for both her and the people of Wakanda.

7 And, Her Life Is Better Than Tony’s Hot Mess

Does Tony have good relationships with anyone? His parents don’t really pop into the picture often enough to have us believe that he has a good relationship with them. His relationship with his girlfriend kind-of sucks. His social life isn’t really happening as he always has a strained relationship with his friends and co-workers. He tends to butt heads with a lot of people that come into his life, including Captain America.

Shuri, on the other hand, has a close-knit family. Her wit and good demeanour are important to her family and often times lightens the mood during serious rituals. Everyone who knows her loves her. And, she has a healthy social life, because of it. She has family, friends, and people who love her, while Tony has... well let’s just say Tony has Tony.

6 She’s Dedicated To Those She Loves

Shuri returns the love with her loyalty and willingness to protect the very people who care for her. Again it all makes her equally awesome considering her age. Throughout his 20s and 30s, Tony lived a lifestyle as a hard-partying rich bachelor. It wasn’t until he was older that he got the idea to put his money and brains to good use to become Iron Man and protect people.

Shuri on the other hand probably rolled out of the womb helping people. She has been using her brains to advance her country’s technology since she was a young teen. She created magnetized trains to connect her entire nation and other inventions to solve the problems of her people. Now, at age 16, she’s fighting bad guys to protect her country. Imagine what she will have accomplished by the time she turns twenty-one.

5 And Saved Her Country Before Turning 21

Speaking of becoming legal enough to drink, Shuri hasn’t even turned 21 and yet she’s already become a national hero. It should also be noted since she’s now part of a billion-dollar film that she’s a hero both in the fictional Wakanda and in the very real US (and other countries as well).

She managed to create the technology that saved the planet from WWIII and anarchy. Yet, she wasn’t content to sit on the sidelines. Shuri got in on the action and found the super-villain. She held her own for a while too and fans are expecting that it will literally be Shuri that will deliver the final blow to the villain in the sequel. Off the screen, Shuri is a hero who has saved millions of young girls from thinking that they have a limited number of options as to what they can be.

4 All While Having Perfect Comedic Timing

We’ve mentioned how smart Shuri is, but let’s just chat for a bit about how funny she is too. She delivers her one-liners with more bang than her weapons. Oh, and they’re perfectly timed too. When Agent Everett Ross is put in her care she says, “Yay, another broken white boy for me to fix.”

Then, when she roasts T’Challa’s sandals. “The real question is… what are thooooose?” Of course one of her best lines is also one of her last lines. She went out with a bang when T’Challa took Shuri to Oakland California. “When you said you would take me to California for the first time, I thought you meant Coachella!” Yes, we’ll all be using a few of those in our life. Next time you someone takes you to a less than exciting part of a cool city, just use Shuri’s Coachella line.

3 Every Girl Can Look Up To Her

When was the last time that little girls had a young top scientist to look up to in a Marvel film? Or any film? There are the assassins and government officials, but there hasn’t been a woman who gets by on strictly her smarts and wit in years.

And, maybe that has something to do with the fact that Shuri is the smartest person in the world? Although, not only is Shuri smart, but also she has a lovable personality. She truly shows that it’s what’s on the inside that counts. “I hope it can spark someone to say, ‘I’m not a superhero, but I can be a scientist or build the next spaceship, like Shuri,” the actress Letitia Wright has said of her character.

2 Cause She’s Technically The Best Disney Princess Ever

Forget Frozen or Moana. There’s a new princess in town and she’s a live-action character who can put any princess or Marvel hero to shame. So, Disney now owns Marvel, which makes all of their characters technically Disney characters, including Princess Shuri. The Princess of Wakanda is a technology expert who saves her country through her wits, brain, and smarts. She’s everyone’s favorite new role model and should have kids everywhere going Elsa who?

Plus, she doesn’t come with an annoying song that get’s stuck in your head. She comes to great one-liners that you can use on Instagram. We can’t wait for the Barbie dolls to come out or for Halloween to finally role back around so girls everywhere will finally have a chance to show off their fiercest Shuri looks. Meanwhile, Tony Star is simply a billionaire.

1 And, On Day She’ll Rule A Nation

Since Shuri is a princess she’ll rule a nation one day. Tony Stark, on the other hand, get’s to rule well… his wallet and a messy empire worth billions, lead by people who don’t necessarily like him.

Meanwhile, Shuri will rule one day as a beloved queen, because well, everyone loves Shuri. She’s kind, loyal, and has proven that she has a good heart. Tony Stark is exactly the type of bad boy that your mother tells you to avoid. He’s obnoxious, rude, quick-tempered, and kind of smart. Shuri is a flawless princess who will one day make a flawless queen. And, most boys know that she will be too good for them. She’s already smarter than everyone else; she’s bound to only make her nation greater than it already is.
