15 Celebs Who Called Their Divorce Lawyer Right After The Wedding

All eyes were on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West when they got married in a lavish ceremony in Florence in 2014 because fans and critics were quite certain that this could be a repeat of Kardashian's short-lived second marriage to Kris Humphries -- thankfully, it wasn’t.

In 2011, Kardashian and Humphries married on a televised special for the world to see, but things didn’t go according to plan because just 72 days later, Kim had filed for divorce, causing the public to label the marriage as a sham and a publicity stunt. So, it may shock you to hear that this union was not the shortest celeb marriage ever, but only one of many shockingly brief marriages.

We’re not just talking about reality TV stars here either, but some of your favorite celebs who have made impulsive decisions to get hitched in Las Vegas, or call time on their marriage just days or weeks later because they realized they had made an awful mistake; or their spouse turned out to be a cheater. From Britney Spears to Drew Barrymore, below are 15 celebs who have been very unlucky in the love department, and some are even repeat offenders who have had multiple short, but not so sweet unions.

15 Britney Spears Made A Mistake With Jason Alexander

Via PopSugar

Everyone knows that Britney Spears was married to Kevin Federline, but she was also, albeit briefly, married to another man, her childhood friend, Jason Alexander. It happened on New Year’s in 2004 after the pair had been spending time together in Las Vegas.

According to an interview Alexander gave to ABC News, it was Spears’ idea to get hitched. She made the decision on a whim and he went along with it, and they headed to a white wedding chapel to say “I do.” The next morning it seemed Spears had serious regrets about her decision because there was no prenup and so she filed to get it annulled on the basis that she "lacked understanding of her actions, to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage."

Everything started and ended in just 55 hours!

14 Milla Jovovich Was 16 When She Married Shawn Andrews

Via CelebLiveUpdate

Milla Jovovich and Shawn Andrews met on the set of Dazed and Confused in 1993, and during filming in Texas, they are reported to have eloped to Las Vegas to get married. There’s just one problem, Jovovich was only a teenager at the time who wanted to get married purely to prove a point to her mom and also get a bank card.

She revealed as much during a 2011 interview with The Telegraph. She also said, "I was 16 and feeling emancipated, so I ran off to Vegas and got married to an actor. I'm not even into actors; I can't bear men who are constantly aware of themselves and their looks.”

Because she was 16 (Andrews was four years older than her), her mother reportedly got the marriage annulled. In total,  the pair were only husband and wife for 60 days.

13 Drew Barrymore And Jeremy Thomas Weren’t A Perfect Match

Via E! Online

Drew Barrymore married Tom Green in 2001, and it was a short-lived union because nine months later she filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. This may seem like an impossibly short time to be married to someone, but before Green, Barrymore was married to Jeremy Thomas, and that’s the relationship that’s really worth mentioning.

In 1994, Barrymore married Thomas, a Los Angeles bar owner, and prior to getting hitched the couple had only known each other for six weeks. There was also a bit of an age gap between them because the actress was only 19 at the time, while Thomas was 32. Unsurprisingly, getting into a marriage with someone you hardly know when you’re a teenager seldom ends in success and 39 days later, Barrymore filed for divorce.

12 Mario Lopez And Ali Landry Lasted Two Weeks

Via RedCarpetWedding

Ali Landry and Mario Lopez’s marriage could possibly have lasted longer than 18 days if he hadn’t cheated on her days before they said: “I do.” The couple had been together for six years before they made the decision to get married in Mexico in 2004, where they were surrounded by their family and friends.

What followed was a lot of heartache because Landry found out her fiancé had been unfaithful, claims which years later Lopez admitted too. During an appearance on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show, Lopez said that for his Bachelor party he headed to Mexico for a wild weekend of partying, despite telling Landry he was going to Cabo to go Marlin fishing, and on this weekend he claims to have “messed around” with another woman.

He continued, "It was spring break….everybody was hanging out. That was a situation where I was not mature and man enough."

11 Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries’ Marriage Crashed And Burned

Via PreppyPinkCrocodile

Out of all the failed celeb marriages, it's Kim Kardashian who probably gets the most criticism for her short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries. The couple managed to make it 72 days as husband and wife before things came to a crashing halt, and surprisingly, this is a lot longer than many other celebs.

Perhaps the thing about this marriage that irritated so many was how the lavish nuptials were televised for the world to see in a two-part E! special, and after all that money and time, Kardashian decided this marriage was not for her. Also, this decision seemed to be completely one-sided because at the time Humphries made this comment, "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

10 Sinead O’Connor And Barry Herridge Had A Wild Ride

Via New York Daily News

In 2011, Sinead O’Connor got married for the fourth time, this time to Barry Herridge, a drug counselor. According to Daily Mail, they met online four months before they decided to get married at the famous Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.

But it seems as though their marriage was troubled from the start because after 16 days it was all over and O’Connor hinted that it was her partly fault. She claimed on her website that part of the reason for the split was “intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me,” as well as “a bit of a wild ride I took us on.” She added that her husband had been very upset by this experience.

The couple can’t seem to quit each other though and have reportedly split, and gotten back together more than once.

9 Kidd Rock and Pamela Anderson Had Three Wedding Ceremonies

Via Weddbook

Kidd Rock and Pamela Anderson were at least together for more than a week before they decided to get married, even if it didn’t work out in the end. The pair started dating in 2001 and were engaged the following year, but ended up breaking up in 2003. They then decided to give their love another shot (and these things seldom work out better a second time around) and were married in July of 2006 on a luxury yacht.

Following this, they signed the legal papers in a Beverly Hills courthouse, and finally, they celebrated with a wedding onstage in Nashville; why they needed so many ceremonies is a bit confusing, especially since their actual marriage only lasted 122 days. The good news is the decision to divorce was mutual and both parties filed divorce petitions in November of 2006 -- it’s safe to say it wasn’t a happy Thanksgiving.

8 Pamela Anderson And Rick Salomon Tried Not Once, But Twice

Yes, Pamela Anderson finds herself on this list twice and if this proves anything it’s that she may be a little impulsive when it comes to saying “I do” because her marriages are not the happy and long-lasting kind. You may have thought it was sad that Kidd Rock and Anderson called time on their union after four months, but her marriage to Rick Salomon lasted half that time.

The pair married in Las Vegas in 2007, but after two months the marriage was annulled. However, this couple oddly couldn’t stay away from each other and despite a rollercoaster of emotions in the years that followed, in 2014, they decided to give their love another shot and were married again.

It wasn’t meant to be, and six months later Anderson filed for divorce.

7 Robin Givens And Svetozar Marinkovic Immediately Realized What They’d Done

Via TrendChasers

Robin Givens most famous relationship is with boxer Mike Tyson, who she wed in 1998, after a quick courtship and then divorced just eight months later. However, the reason Givens finds herself on this list is not because of her marriage to Tyson but rather because a year earlier she made an impulsive decision to wed her tennis instructor.

In November of 1997, when she was aged 22, she and Svetozar Marinkovic were married, but quickly realized the relationship was not going to work out. And I mean quickly because according to reports, they were married and separated on the same day making this possibly the most bizarre celeb marriage of them all.

Although the union was short-lived, this was not a quick annulment because it reportedly took over a year for the divorce to be finalized.

6 Chad Michael Murray And Sophia Bush’s Marriage Ended In Heartbreak

Via FrostNow

Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush went from being One Tree Hill co-stars to lovers (and then back to co-stars again). They were married in a romantic Santa Monica wedding in 2005. However, just five months later, in February of 2006, they separated and Bush filed for an annulment citing “fraud” as her reason for wanting to put an end to her married life, but according to People, there was no explanation to the alleged fraud.

E! News reports that her request was denied, but the couple was granted a divorce in December of 2006. What exactly went wrong? There is no confirmation as to why they split, but it was a decision which Bush claims caused her trauma.

“The reality is that, yes, it was a massive event in my life. And the trauma of it was amplified by how public it became, which was incredibly foreign and bizarre to a girl who'd been just another college kid 24 months before her life blew up,” She wrote in an open letter published in Cosmopolitan in 2017.

5 Nicky Hilton And Todd Andrew Meister Pulled A Britney

Via: Bustle

You probably know at least something about Nicky Hilton’s fairytale wedding to James Rothschild in 2015 (and their marriage still appears to be going strong, three years and two babies later), but long before she met Rothschild, she was an impulsive 20-year-old who had a short-lived marriage with Todd Andrew Meister. The pair had known each other since they were 15, but got married in Las Vegas in 2004, with Paris Hilton as her sister’s bridesmaid, and Jeff Beacher as the groomsmen.

Beacher shared his thoughts on the wedding, telling People magazine, “It was a beautiful, small wedding with an amazing energy. The two of them are very much in love.” But were they really? Probably not because Nicky and Meister clearly realized they’d made a terrible decision they decided to get their marriage annulled after just 85 days.

4 Lisa Marie Presley And Nicolas Cage’s Marriage Ended As Quick As It Began

Via WildCeleb

Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage are yet another couple who didn’t find the recipe for a long and happy marriage -- and perhaps that's in part because they reportedly chose to get married on the 25th anniversary of her father, Elvis Presley’s death.

The couple married in Hawaii in 2002, just ten days after the actor had proposed to Presley, and while their engagement may have been short-lived, so too was their marriage because Cage filed for divorce after 108 days as a married man.

Little details were shared about the decision for their split, but at the time Presley noted that they were definitely not the perfect pair. She made a statement via her publicist to CNN, saying, "I'm sad about this, but we shouldn't have been married in the first place. It was a big mistake."

3 Carmen Electra And Dennis Rodman Got Hitched In Vegas

Via InTouch Weekly

Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman’s marriage almost ended after just nine days.

After nine months of dating, the pair got hitched in Las Vegas in November of 1998. However, it was not meant to be because just nine days later the couple decided to file for an annulment. They later rescinded this claim, and decided to stay married, however, in late March, it was Electra who decided to file for divorce.

In 2014, she spoke about the four-month marriage and described how tumultuous it had been. Speaking on Oprah Winfrey's Where Are They Now? series, she said, "Our relationship was very passionate. When it was good, it was amazing. And when it was bad, it was the worst." Electra also stated that the whole marriage “happened so fast” and that right after she had questioned what they had done.

2 Bradley Cooper And Jennifer Esposito Had A Four Month Marriage

Via New York Daily News

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito never went into much detail publicly about their marriage and why it only lasted four months, but what we do know is that they were married in late December of 2006, and it was all over by May of 2007. When they split in 2007, the couple kept quiet with Cooper only saying during an interview with Howard Stern in 2011, that they weren’t meant to be.

He said, “It just wasn't right. It's interesting... things happen!”

Although there are rumors that Esposito slammed Cooper in her memoir, Jennifer's Way, it’s impossible to be certain because she chose not to mention names, although some publications claim that the timeline links up to when she was with the actor. Despite this, the former couple has definitely moved on with their lives and both Cooper and Esposito appear to have found people who are right for them. Esposito married Louis Dowler in 2014, and Cooper has been in a loving and committed relationship with supermodel Irina Shayk since 2015; the pair also has a child together.

1 Eddie Murphy And Tracey Edmonds Had A Not-So-Legal Wedding

Via Iloveoldschoolmusic

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds started dating in 2006 and became engaged 2007, and then on New Year’s Day in 2008 they had what seemed to be the perfect wedding celebration. But their sort-of-marriage only lasted two weeks, and unlike the other couples on this list, their marriage was not really legal.

What happened was that the pair had a symbolic ceremony in Bora Bora, and essentially went through the whole exchanging vows process, but they decided not to make the ceremony legal. Two weeks later in a joint statement, they said, "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further. While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship, and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.”
