When it comes to actresses, you're going to see some impressive women. There are Academy Award winners and some D-List women. However, they all stand out for something once they get their name out there. Whether that is the classic horror girl screamer who makes her name in those types of movies or maybe it's the girl who lands a popular indie movie. Maybe it's the girl who gets involved in a special part that helps her make her name or perhaps it's a veteran that has been around for years.

No matter who she might be, a lot of things can be determined by what she does. The movie she might land and how she does with it can help certain special women stand out, while those who do not do well will fall down the list. Sometimes girls are hired because they appear to just be a pretty face, like Margot Robbie. This Aussie actress had some success in her homeland but made her way to America with a Leonardo DiCaprio movie called The Wolf of Wall Street. Not only was she impressive, but she stood out as more than the beauty she was hired to be.

We saw her acting chops in a bigger way later on. Jennifer Lawrence has done similar, as she was hired to be part of a small movie based on a book series that she would help to make massive. Regardless of how they do it, there's always something that men kind of wonder. Someone may play a tough as nails actress, but is she actually like that or just a good actress? While we can say all women are tough in their own way, some stand out as far tougher than most.

On this list, we'll be breaking down women like that. However, we're also going to call out the girls we know to be acting the tough part but are not quite what they appear to be. With that said, we hope you enjoy our list of 10 actresses who only act tough, and 10 you really don't want to mess with.

Don't Want To Mess With: Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel started her career on the hit television show 7th Heaven for a number of years. Her character was beloved and many assumed she would have a good career afterward. While she did appear in some bigger movies like I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, Total Recall, New Year's Eve, A-Team, Blade Trinity, Valentine's Day, and more. She would even go on to marry a popular musician and part-time actor/comedian Justin Timberlake. They have a few children together as well. Hopefully, they develop the toughness of their mother, as Biel is one heck of a badass.

While growing up Jessica played soccer and trained as a gymnast, she would develop an interest in Kick Boxing when training for Blade Trinity, then in other forms of martial arts for Total Recall. While originally just a way to get in shape for the movie and learn a few moves, she fell in love with it. It is said that while Kickboxing is her specialty, she has a black belt in taekwondo. If this happens to be true, we're certainly not going to mess with her. Interestingly, Mrs. Timberlake can always protect her kids but also her husband if it comes to that.

Only Acts Tough: Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis is most known for her work on That 70's Show, however, many felt she would have an impressive Hollywood career after the show concluded. They were right, as Mila found herself getting multiple opportunities that put her as one of the top young actresses in Hollywood. While she did not fit the world of action to some, she was able to use this to her benefit. She would be able to show off in this area and manage to impress as a good action star in movies like The Book of Eli, Jupiter Ascending, and Max Payne. She was even having to do a great deal of action in her breakout dramatic role in Black Swan.

However, Kunis is by no means as tough as her characters in those movies happen to be. Though she learned ballet to properly do Black Swan, most of the action material took a stunt double to properly do. This is by no means something to look down on someone for, as it is pretty common to see in Hollywood. However, it does take her a step down in terms of toughness. While being a mother and being tough in that world is clearly admirable for Kunis or any woman who accomplishes this....we're speaking on just her Hollywood life. In that world, she's not the impressive action star movies made her out to be at times. Though Kunis is still capable of doing well in the action genre, it's all an act.

Don't Want To Mess With: Margot Robbie

As mentioned above about Robbie, she came to America for a big movie with Leo. However, this would allow her to stand out in a big way. She would quickly be brought in for other roles across a variety of genres. She would work with Tina Fey in Whisky Tango Foxtrot and with Will Smith in Focus. Then fans wanted to see her become Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movie. Not only did she accept the role, she now plans to reprise it in Suicide Squad 2 and possibly a Birds of Prey film series. Interestingly, it was this role that may have forced us to give her credit as a very tough badass. She would train in Jiu-Jitsu for quite some time to properly prepare for the role as Quinn.

She mostly did the Brazilian version of it, which can differ from the normal Jiu-Jitsu. It involves severely intense holds and submissions, as well as impressive striking. Anyone involved in MMA as a career learns this world in order to actually do well. Robbie trained in this and even kept it up somewhat when she was done as Harley. In addition, she added gymnastics to her work-out side too, which paid off in the movie. To top it off, she worked her butt off to properly learn how to ice skate for the movie I, Tanya. She would be nominated for a slew of awards for her role as Tanya Harding, but the fact that she trained so hard to learn how to ice skate is impressive. While you'll see pro women do some of the more complicated, Olympic level jumps on the ice in the film...Robbie is often the girl you see out there. We've gotta give this Aussie some huge credit for all of this.

Only Acts Tough: Emilia Clarke

Most of us know Emilia Clarke from her role in Game of Thrones where this Dragon Queen leaves very little to the imagination. She has become a major name in Hollywood due to the breakout role in this television show on HBO, but she has also branched into bigger action opportunities. She was in Terminator: Genisys and most recently Solo: A Star Wars Story. While she is impressive in all of her roles, Clarke is by no means as major league tough chick. There are a lot of women from The UK who are, and many who are clearly tough overall...but Emilia simply does not fit into this world.

That does not mean she doesn't have any toughness at all. It takes some pretty big spirit to take your clothes off on television and be judged by those watching continuously. So when we go with people who must be mentally tough, Clarke may be near the top of that list. However, this is regarding mostly physical toughness...not mental. That means Clarke, despite all the impressive acting she has done, will not be considered the toughest chick in Hollywood any time soon. She could always improve upon this, but as of now...it's a waiting game on that. Hopefully, she can continue to do well and even land more action roles. However, we'll know there's more of an act here than a real-life tough girl.

Don't Want To Mess With: Gina Carano

Gina Carano has carved out an impressive career for herself in Hollywood. While she has become the main star in some lower budget films, she has also starred in some bigger movies as well. One movie was actually written just for her and would involve several Hollywood aces. The movie was called Haywire, and she really stood out. This would get her some attention from casting directors and producers. This landed her a big role in Fast & Furious 6 and Kickboxer: Vengeance. She also managed to stand out in the solo Deadpool movie too. She has landed such impressive action roles most likely due to being one of the biggest badasses in Hollywood, men and women included.

Gina fought in the world of Mixed Martial Arts for the Strikeforce and EliteXC Promotions. She would become the biggest female fighter in the world at one point, which helped bring a ton of attention to Strikeforce. She is beautiful and can fight well, which obviously caught Hollywood's attention. She was 7-1 in her MMA career, but she also has success in Muay Thai at the beginning of her career. She is 12-1-1 in the world of kickboxing, which was where she used her Muay Thai training. Carano does not hold any black belts in the world of martial arts, but she is a proven fighter within the professional ranks. We highly suggest not messing with her, your unbroken body will thank you later.

Only Acts Tough: Willa Holland

Willa Holland is most known for work on The CW in shows like Gossip Girl and Arrow, as well as her role on The O.C. years ago. Holland plays a hero on Arrow, where she has often been involved in the fighting side of the show. Originally, she was used as simply the sister of Oliver Queen. However, as the show would go on the producers and writers wanted to add Willa to more stories that would eventually require her to be a fighting type. The problem with this is that Willa is really not as tough as her character seems to be. She is often spotted wearing her Red Arrow costume when fighting, which is by design. It allows for stunt doubles to do most of the work, where others on the show often do a lot of their own fighting.

Holland does have to handle things herself sometimes, and will even do it in the costume. However, this is not nearly as common for her as it is for others. It got to a point that she hated doing this side of the show so much that writers wrote a spot in that would let Thea off the hook. Miss Queen could fight but did not feel it was good for her as a person to continue down such a path. This allowed us to sort of get past the idea that Willa was not fighting and joining Stephen Amell in fights each week for the show. She did not totally leave this world, but the load was a lot lighter and stunt doubles would be used more often.

Don't Want To Mess With: Naomi Watts

When seeing the words "you don't want to mess with Naomi Watts," it is likely you had to chuckle. This actress? We could easily see a Gina type not being messed with, but her? You'd be quite surprised to learn that Naomi Watts is quite an impressive athlete and fighter. While she is an Academy Award-nominated actress these days, her early career was a bit tougher on her. It was a time she when she was a struggling model and actress, so she decided to get involved in martial arts where she had a love for quite some time. She would train in judoka(or just Judo) and become quite impressive. So much so, she competed from 1989-1992 at the World Amateur Judo Championships. We're totally serious.

Watts is unable to take part in as many tournaments today, but she still does have a love of fitness and staying in shape as well as martial arts. She keeps in shape by doing yoga as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which only increased her badassery to most.  She has not been able to star in various roles where she could use her martial arts training, which is likely why people are so surprised to learn she has a huge one. In the end, we very well could see her get a part where she could properly use this more. Even if it is just a small amount, it would be worth it to see Watts throw someone over and put them in an armbar. Please give it to us, Hollywood!

Only Acts Tough: Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart is most known for her role in the Twilight franchise of films. She played sort of a tough girl in the movies, but it was not really used as much as it could have been. Stewart tried to portray a tougher style in movies like Adventureland, Snow White and The Huntsman, and American Ultra. While her relationship with Robert Pattinson was always in the public and highly publicized when she was found to be cheating on him, she is not happy being with her new female partner. Regardless of how you feel about Kristen though, she has had some big roles and she has done relatively well with them. Sure, she has pretty much one face and can show but 2 emotions...yet she did well with her work.

The issue is that despite all those movies where she had to play a tougher woman, she was certainly acting everything out. Kristen has an interesting look and personality, which often makes people take her as a tougher sort of woman. In reality, she is like that high school girl who was quiet in school but was sort of goth and looked like she could kick your butt. In reality, she could not do that much if at all. Stewart is great at her style of things, but despite all she takes part in....we're all going to see right through her when it comes to playing tough women.

Don't Want To Mess With: Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar was one of the top actresses on the 1990's, only keeping to this when she would go on to marry other top 90's star Freddie Prinze Jr. and have a few kids with him. The overall appeal of Gellar was huge as she was considered one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. This helped her immensely as she was coming up in the acting world. It allowed her to land roles alongside some remaining Hollywood A-Listers too. Likely her biggest success came as Buffy in the hit television show Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It was here that we were introduced to the cool action star that could kick any of our butts at any time. Some thought that this version of Gellar was just an act, however.

Few believed that she could really hurt people in real-life if under threat. Those people would be VERY wrong. During Buffy's filming, she often studied fighting and martial arts. She originally found an interest in boxing and then kickboxing. She added some training in gymnastics to help out with moves she would need to do for the show. This all transitioned well when she began to train in Taekwondo. She loved the martial art so much that the remained in it even after finishing her TV series. Gellar now holds a black belt in the martial art, and could likely use this training to put you down with a hard strike to any region she feels will hurt you most. Don't mess with Buffy!

Only Acts Tough: Gwendoline Christie

Most will know Gwendoline Christie from her tremendous work on the television show Game of Thrones. She truly stood out on the show, and her size is likely a major reason for that. She is a legitimate 6'3, which is tall for a man and extremely tall for a woman. Considering the average female is 5'3-5'7, she's clearly head and shoulders above this. Her time on the show was tremendous, but she also made her way to the Star Wars universe. She would star in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi in memorable fashion as Captain Phasma. She was a tough as nails servant to Kylo-Ren and Snoke, and she was rarely unsuccessful in her mission.

Clearly, there's a lot there that could be beloved. However, Christie herself has been open about the fact that she is nothing like her character from Star Wars or that much from Game of Thrones. Obviously, Gwendoline is a tall woman who looks imposing when people come across her, but that does not automatically dictate that she can be taken as an extremely tough person. The appearance of such can do a lot for someone, so it's unlikely that people will try to mess with her at any point regardless. Yet at the end of the day, there are 15 women who certainly come off tougher here. Which is saying a lot, as Christie would be the biggest woman on the list and we do not consider her on the tough side

Don't Want To Mess With: Michelle Rodriguez

Michelle Rodriguez is mostly known for her role in the Fast & Furious franchise where she plays one heck of a tough woman. Interestingly, she has been playing a tough as nails female in many roles she has taken. She did this with movies like Resident Evil, Machete, Avatar, Battle: Los Angeles, S.W.A.T. and of course the TV show Lost. While she has been on a great female action star, she is often forgotten for her tough female roles for some reason. Other than the Fast series, people do not think about her other characters, when they really should. Michelle obviously is tremendous at the acting side, but she's not afraid of the action either.

This seems to be what keeps bringing her back to these types of projects and why she is often hired for them to frequently. She is an interesting woman for sure. She has some interesting hobbies, which include things like skydiving and tactical gun training. We're serious. She also felt that she needed to train in the fight world to properly do well in her roles. This is what first got her interested in martial arts. She would develop a huge interest in boxing and kickboxing and has trained in both for years now. This paid off when shooting her fights with MMA stars Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey for the Fast franchise. They wanted to make it look realistic, and did so well at it that Rodriquez was injured in both fights for real and kept going without much of an issue. Phew...

Only Acts Tough: Halle Berry

While Halle Berry has played two superheroes in Storm and Catwoman, most fans of the comics and characters will tell you that she did not exactly play them "well." Berry was never considered a bad actress to most, but she did seem to go downhill after these movies were made somewhat. The former Academy Award winner never seemed into the superhero genre despite playing Storm for multiple X-Men movies and Catwoman for one, horrible, film. While Berry did get some training to play the characters, it was not much. While Catwoman is sort of a gymnast who can do it all, Berry would usually see a stunt double do the moves that required extensive training.

Berry has been in other action movies such as James Bond and The Call, her major breakout roles were in heavily comedic or heavily dramatic films. She is great in those roles it seems. An Emmy, Golden Globe, and Oscar do not lie regarding her performances. But this is not about those sides to Berry, but rather her toughness. She has been in boxing classes somewhat but most use them to stay in shape. Many women do this as a form of training considering the sport is a tremendous way to keep in shape. However, she is not going through extensive work here, and though that can put her on some tough girl lists...it does not for us as we can see right through it as more of a workout than applicable trait for her.

Don't Want To Mess With: Lucy Liu

While you can see Lucy Liu star in Elementary as Joan Watson where she only gets physical some of the time, she is one heck of a fighter. Most of the roles we've seen her in had to do often with her using her ability to fight. We were introduced to her in movies like Kill Bill: Volume 1, Shanghai Noon, Lucky Number Slevin, and the Charlie's Angels movie franchise. It was here that we noticed that not only was Lucy beautiful, but she could stand out as a true action star in her own right. She was able to stand out for more than fighting, as she proved to have acting chops too.

Due to her family, she is fluent in Mandarin-Chinese and often spoke it with her parents at home. Her parents are from China but Lucy was born in and grew up in New York City. She was taught martial arts at a young age and particularly specialized in Kali-Eskrima-Silat. This is basically knife-and-stick-fighting, which taught her how to use objects to injure or take out someone as well as helped her learn how to unarm people she came across. Liu was taught multiple martial arts and trained in a number of them on top of this, which she often shows in her roles. However, if you're ever wondering about why she likes to use objects in her fights....now you know why. Literally, a pencil in her hand is more dangerous than a machete in yours.

Only Acts Tough: Keira Knightley

The gorgeous Keira Knightley was first truly introduced to us in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. She would play the fake version of Queen Amidala (character name Sabe), which is a role she would have at an extremely young age. Being quite young was not a hindrance as Keira was always tall, so she often looked older than she happened to be...which worked for casting in multiple forms. At only 33 today, she has been part of some big movies since she was a teenager. She was around 18 when she starred in the first Pirates of the Carribean film, where she played the tough Elizabeth Swann. While she did not play tougher girls in every role, this movie set her up to be positioned as a girl who could do this.

This was on top of her roles in Bend it like Beckham, King Arther, and many more. While Keira is a beautiful and tremendous actress who at only 33 has starred in multiple blockbusters and still delivers in her roles...she isn't the tough chick some movies make her out to be. That is not a bad thing, however. Some women do not fit the role and she tends to always fit in any role she takes on. However, this is due to her terrific acting ability. When she plays a tough girl type of role, it seems that she is more actress than a legit tough chick. Again, this isn't an issue. It just goes to show how good of an actress she is.

Don't Want To Mess With: Katheryn Winnick

It is likely that most know the beautiful Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha from the hit TV series Vikings. She kicks butt on this show quite often and despite her age of 40, she is thought to be a great up and coming actress. She has been seeing more opportunities the last few years, even starring in the movie Dark Tower after having some smaller movie roles the last few years. Before Vikings, she was a recurring character on Bones as well. Truthfully, the action genre has a star on their hands but it's often difficult to use her for some. She did not know English until she was 8, as she was born in Canada but spoke Ukrainian due to her family being from the area.

When she learned the language, she began showing promise in the Ontario region. Due to a need to find something to fit who she was, she fell in love with martial arts. It allowed her to stand out and connect with other kids while also learning to kick the butt of anyone who crossed her. By age 13 she earned her first black belt and even started three different martial arts schools by the young age of 21! Seriously, she is pretty amazing. The currently sits at 3rd Dan(degree) in Taekwondo and is a 2nd Dan in Karate. She is intelligent as well, and likely found more ways to hurt you when she became a trained bodyguard and earned her degree in Kinesiology from New York University. She trained other actresses on TV and Movie sets in martial arts before going into it herself. Great plan for her!

Only Acts Tough: Chyler Leigh

It is likely that you know Chyler Leigh from The CW on the hit television show Supergirl. She plays Alex Danvers, the sister of Supergirl. Leigh plays a sort of police officer on the show, but she does not work for the local PD exactly. She works for an elite squad of people, led by The Martian Manhunter (which you don't know until later). The squad she works with are a secret governmental team that goes by the name of the Department of Extranormal Operations...or the DEO. On the show, Alex (Chyler) is a tough as nails chick who is willing to go to the extremes to keep her adopted sister safe.

This is in spite of the fact that Supergirl is not human like she is. The protective big sister is always there for her sister, which is quite sweet. She can fight and she's good with weapons. While the character of Alex is great, Leigh is by no means as tough as her. She's even openly admitted such. Leigh's normal type of show is that of what she played on Grey's Anatomy. She's not normally an action type of actress but rather a dramatic actress who can get comedic if needed. She's also a talented singer. Yet not the tough girl she plays on television.

Don't Want To Mess With: Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is one of the most talented and accomplished actresses in history. While she does not have as many awards as someone like Meryl Streep, she's more than capable of hanging with anyone on any movie. She has 3 Golden Globe Awards, 2 Academy Awards, and 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards. She has mostly done dramatic work with the occasional comedy when she's not directing or producing. However, most know her action movie work with movies like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Salt, The Tourist, and the Tomb Raider series. Jolie actually went out and learned some skills to play the amazing Lara Croft.

She would learn Krav Maga, the Israeli Special Forces martial art. It is mostly for defense but can be very effective on offense too. She added some gymnastic training to this as well. Jolie has remained in training for Krav Maga to stay in shape and learn new ways to defend herself. She might need this, as she was named Special Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She goes to several countries, many war-torn, and offers various concepts for refugees in certain areas, and speaks with countries about taking some in. She's been to several war-torn or infested nations like Pakistan, Columbia, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq due to this job with the UN. She's tough mentally and physically, and an amazing human being.

Only Acts Tough: Kate Beckinsale

While Kate Beckinsale is absolutely stunning, despite being 44, she may not be the toughest girl you've seen. Yes, she has remained in incredible shape and looks like she could barely be 30 right now....her action work is not enough to call her tough. It is likely most know her from The Underworld franchise. However, she has also been in action roles for Total Recall, Van Helsing, and somewhat in The Aviator. Beckinsale has been in some big hits and remained a force in Hollywood due in most part to her action franchise in Underworld. However, the toughness part is not there.

The reason is that while Kate may keep in shape and look good on camera, it isn't as if she is out there doing all of her own stunts and fighting. The reason she is involved in these movies is that she is a terrific actress, but also because she is gorgeous. Have we mentioned this part yet? That is quite important. Often times we look at a pretty face who happens to also be in shape and it makes us assume they're tough as nails in their action role. In reality, it's a misnomer and a lot of the cool stuff we know her for in action form was not really her completely. That takes away from her toughness scale to us.

Don't Want To Mess With: Elodie Yung

Elodie Yung is most known for her work as Elecktra on Netflix shows The Defenders and Daredevil. The Marvel Comics character is well liked and many fans wanted to see the part be played well, and by someone who could do the character justice. This was where Elodie Yung came in. While she was a gifted actress, having played in some relatively successful French films...she had some action credits as well. She appeared in movies like G.I. Joe: Retaliation, District 13: Ultimatum, Narcopolis, and Gods of Egypt. Her role in the latter few ultimately helped her gain the role, starting in Daredevil.

Elodie would start her life in an interesting way. While her father enrolled her in karate classes early, by the age of 9, she would go on to earn her law degree at The University of Paris. She would go into acting and use her beauty and charm to earn roles but her karate experience helped mostly. She earned a black belt in the martial art, allowing her to use her skills to land compelling roles. Her acting credits and proven ability on screen earned her the role of Elektra which has been a breakout part for her.

The karate experience helped to add realism to everything we see from her, as she is often doing her own fighting and thus, her own stunts. Very few can do what she can do with as much realism. Her work on the show seems to be helping her a lot, as she landed another big role in The Hitman's Bodyguard and will likely continue seeing bigger opportunities.

Only Acts Tough: Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver is known for being one of the better veteran actresses in Hollywood. She has been in one of the biggest movie franchises in history, the Alien movie franchise. She also appeared in other "sort of" action clicks like Chappie, Ghostbusters, Abduction, and Avatar. The latter is in production on two more movies to the series and made over a billion at the box office. People may also remember her from Holes, You Again, Galaxy Quest, The Ice Storm, Working Girl, and Gorillas in the Mist. Case in point, Weaver is a fantastic actress...but that is kind of the issue it seems.

Sigourney Weaver has been in some hits, a few even major action movies. Yet when she appeared in The Defenders on Netflix, we saw perfectly that her stardom might still be high but her action work and ability seemed limited. Being around men and women who were trained martial artists who also acted to being with stars of the show who did their own stunts, it showed the limitations that Weaver. She never claimed to be the tough women she played in movies or television. She's a tremendous actress, but that is the rub in the end. She can act tough, but when it comes down to it...she does not stack up to the women we've mentioned on this list.

Don't Want To Mess With: Caity Lotz

It is likely you know Caity Lotz from some of her older work. However, most know her as Sarah Lance from The CW's Arrowverse. She originally started on Arrow before going to DC's Legends of Tomorrow where she has been what many would say the main star of the show. She is incredible in her role as Sarah Lance, whether she is playing Sarah herself or Black/White Canary. She is overall tremendous, and stands out as one of the best action stars on television...men and women included. Caity is known for rarely turning down a stunt that they want to do with the character, and she is also known for being part of every fight sequence. No stunt double fights for Lotz, as she refuses for that to happen.

Caity trained her butt off to be able to work as Sarah in the first place, and has remained in training ever since. She would follow co-star Stephen Amell and jump into Parkour. She was serious about the role and her love of martial arts was really what landed her the role it seems. She is trained in Wushu, Taekwondo, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, and Arnis. Two of these are national martial arts for places like the Philippines and Israel. Due to wanting to be like a real superhero, she has also remained in training for "tricking." It is a martial arts/gymnastics combination that teaches people how to do punches and kicks while being able to twist and flip at the same time. Yeah, those moves she does are not CGI or rope additions. It's all Lotz.

Only Acts Tough: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman has been in some relatively well-known action movies over the years. She is likely most known for her role in the Star Wars Episodes I-III. She is also known for her roles in V for Vendetta, Black Swan, and many more. Of course, she has also had a nice role in the Thor franchise of films in the MCU. It is likely her role will even expand there if they so desire. She is clearly an amazing actress who has proven this time and time again. For movies like Jackie and Closer, she was nominated for a slew of awards. Of course, Black Swan was truly her biggest role for critical acclaim.

She has won 2 Golden Globe Awards and Swan ended up earning her the Academy Award. If nothing else, this should prove our point about women being amazing actresses yet not truly tough. It seems that whatever action role she has, she is not truly an "action star" within it. Most will see her in these movies and think, is she really doing much action? No, seriously, is she? Well, she truly isn't when you think about it. The toughness scale is pretty low here, and most would agree it seems.

Don't Want To Mess With: Alicia Vikander

Alicia Vikander first hit Hollywood in a major way when she had a breakout performance in the movie Ex Machina. This led to yet another big action role with the movie The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and then to the Bourne series for Jason Bourne. She did have time to do impressive acting work, as she was amazing in The Danish Girl, which won her the Academy Award. Finally, she was able to get the role of a lifetime and became Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider series. With the new games doing an origin of the character, while also making her younger and smaller than before....someone like Angelina Jolie no longer worked for the part.

Alicia Vikander was perfect casting. Tomb Raider was insane work for Alicia and truly allowed her to step out as a tough chick for sure. She was often doing her own stunts, which looked incredibly dangerous. Just to get in shape for Tomb Raider, Alicia went into major training. She gained 12 pounds of muscle and trained in multiple martial arts. She also trained in rock climbing and even archery. If there is one woman you don't want to mess with, it's one who can take you out in person or with an arrow. If you try to run, you cannot hide, and don't assume climbing high structures will get her away...as she is not afraid of coming for you. We're pretty sure Alicia is a badass no one wants to mess with right now.

Only Acts Tough: Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley is a very talented young actress. In fact, she may be one of the brightest young stars in Hollywood today. She has proven to be a success on television and film. However, she stands out not as an action star but as an impressive dramatic actress. The issue is that she often has to act to bring out the tough girl for her movies. Though she has not had to be for many, her major role in Divergent forced her to be looked at as a possible new action star. The Divergent series of movies were supposed to go 4 deep, but issues occurred regarding the ending movie and thus we never saw it. But Woodley was quite impressive here.

She proved time and time again that she could bring out some impressive material. While she showed more acting chops in movies like Snowden, she is most recognized for The Fault in Our Stars outside the Divergent series. She was obviously terrific in TV shows like The Descendants and Big Little Lies as well. Regardless, while she has shown some promise as a young actress, her toughness scale shows her to be lower than the type of women she plays at times. Even in the Divergent series, there was a clear thought that she did not seem like the prototypical action chick. That is because she never was.

Don't Want To Mess With: Milla Jovovich

Mila Jovovich is most known for her work in the Resident Evil franchise. However, she has starred in other action movies like No Good Deed, The Three Musketeers, Ultraviolet, and will even star in the new Hellboy in 2019. She is an impressive overall actress, however, appearing in comedies like both Zoolander movies and Dazed and Confused. This is on top of her role in Chaplin, The Fifth Element, and various others. Though her love of the action genre is clear. She is quite impressive in it, and that is likely because she does many of her own stunts. She also tends to do usually all her fighting.

Milla is someone you'd be stupid to mess with or try to attack. Seriously, we don't want someone to try and lose an arm. She CAN and WILL take it. She has studied multiple martial arts over the span of several years now. Her specialty is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, at least sometimes. She is a 3rd Dan in Taekwondo and she has studied karate on top of this. This means she knows how to properly strike. Combined with BJJ, she is dangerous in any fight at any time, regardless of where she is positioned. Milla has trained in the use of weapons as well. She can seriously pick up a toothpick and make it a bigger weapon than any knife you can find. Go ahead, try her. See what happens. Wait, don't. We do not want to be an accessory to someone being put in the hospital.

Only Acts Tough: Katie Cassidy

Katie Cassidy is the daughter of the now late David Cassidy. She takes after her gorgeous mother, which helped her develop into the beautiful woman we see today. Cassidy will take your breath away with her beauty but she is also a terrific actress. She has remained in shape for quite some time due to proper training and diet. However, she is playing what many would call a butt-kicker on Arrow. She originally played Laurel Lance from Earth-1. Sadly, that Laurel passed away a while back and another Laurel made her way to Earth-1. This Laurel did not play the Black Canary character like her Earth-1 counterpart.

Instead, she played a villain by the name of Black Siren. We've seen the evolution of Cassidy and her character on the show in a compelling manner. While she has been great on the show, however, Katie is kind of a fake tough girl. Unlike others on the show, she is not doing a lot of her own fighting or stunts. She is doing some, of course. They all have to do them partially. However, Katie might be in there for the camera shot but not for something the entire time. Katie did take some classes to help in her training and, of course, does some parkour to help. Yet this is not enough to call her tough, going off of what we know from the show. At least not tough compared to the other ladies we've listed in that category.

Don't Want To Mess With: Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has been in multiple movies over the past number of years such as Entourage, Fast 7, and many more. She may have a better part in some, but the reason she was able to even get a look from studios was mostly due to her talent. Rousey is a beautiful woman who is in amazing shape, but she made her name in the UFC first. She has a record of 12-2 and was the first UFC Women's Champion of any kind. They literally made a division just for her. She ruled over it for some time and held onto the UFC Women's Bantamweight Title for years. She would beat the top girls of her time until she would end up losing her last two fights.

Rousey has put this career behind her and is now working for the WWE while doing some movies or TV shows on the side when able. Overall, Ronda has trained in many martial arts but her specialty is Judo. Her uncle is "Judo" Gene Lebell, we're freaking serious. And she has a Bronze medal from the Olympics. She is one of the few Americans, man or woman, to medal in the sport here. She currently holds the rank of 6th Dan in the art of Judo, which lands her as one of the top female Judo artists in the world. Seriously, don't mess with Rousey. If you see her patented Rousey stare, run. Run very fast and very far.

Only Acts Tough: Jennifer Lawrence

We'd like to preface this by saying that Jennifer Lawrence is tough in her own way, but not in the complete package. She grew up with brothers and had to be tough with them, and most girls who deal with this do become tough. However, she does not quite have that on the level of others that could easily proclaim it. She sort of fools us with this due to her role in Winter's Bone and the Hunger Games series. She trained in archery to properly do this role, which was clearly showing dedication. However, many stunts performed by her character were done by stunt doubles quite often. Jen might say a studio made that decision, which very well could be true.

However, they made the decision based on knowledge they had on Lawrence. If you notice, she has not been in a ton of action films since Hunger Games. Most of her roles are dramatic. Even her recent movie Red Sparrow is partially action but surrounded by a major dramatic side rather than an extreme focus on action. Lawrence made her name in the action genre, but she knew this was not her field in the end. She has carved out an amazing one for herself and is a brilliant actress. In fact, she could be the best young actress in Hollywood today. Few can debate that. Yet that does not land her on a tough list as one of the toughest, sad to say.

Don't Want To Mess With: Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot is known for playing Wonder Woman these days, and she has been absolutely terrific in the part. However, she has also taken on action roles in three Fast & Furious films as well as in the movie Keeping Up With The Joneses. She is one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, but also one of the most skilled. In fact, she fits the action genre very well and can likely prove this more than most. Gadot is the only woman on this list to have been in her nation's Armed Forces. Gadot is from Israel and it is mandatory that all enter the armed forces for the nation. There are only a few exceptions.

Men have to be in the forces for three years while women have to serve at least two. Most do this at 18-20 or 18-21, and some stick around. Gadot was trained in multiple disciplines to properly be in the forces. She was also a martial arts instructor. The Israeli Armed Forces have their own special martial art called Krav Maga. It is usually used for defense but there are several offense things that can be done with it if studied long enough. Gadot literally taught it to others, so it is likely she knew a lot of offense. She is trained in how to use various weapons, such as knives and various other sharp objects. She is also skilled in using guns. All of which she learned from the Israeli Armed Forces. She still practices her martial art off and on and has used it in movies since.

Only Acts Tough: Lucy Lawless

Lucy Lawless has been in plenty of things we've likely come across. You've seen her in shows like Parks and Recreation, Ash vs Evil Dead, The Spartacus TV Shows, Battlestar Galactica, Tarzan the TV Series, and even movies like Bedtime Stories. However, most know her for her breakout role as Xena in the hit series Xena: Warrior Princess. Here we would often see Lawless fighting multiple enemies, many of them Gods like Ares. She would crossover with the Hercules series starring Kevin Sorbo as well. Overall though, Xena stood out on its own without much need for crossover to help ratings. The show was massive and ran for over 130 episodes.

That is likely why so many see Lucy as one of the best action stars of the 90's. Which is why it is so hard to tell you that she really does not rank as tough. Lucy often had her stunt double do a bulk of the action scenes, and even admitted to this in interviews. In fact, she claimed that she "never did any of her stunts" in one interview. When it comes down to it, one wants to assume Xena was played by a woman who was as tough as the woman she played...or at least somewhere close. In reality, she is sadly not. We know, we were hurt by it too.
