When it comes to love there is a fluidity that many people are embracing. It’s slowly but surely becoming more acceptable for people to be honest about who they love without having to explain why they love them. While most people have the luxury of doing this in the privacy of their own lives, the celebrities on this list have had to do this in the public eye. It goes along with the territory of being a public figure. Every few years a new scandal comes out that seems to shock  everyone: a female celebrity decides to leave her boyfriend, husband, situation-ship whatever they want to label it as in order to pursue a relationship with a woman. Being in a same-gender relationship is just as hard if not harder than a heterosexual relationship. In addition to the pressures of the relationship, there comes the stares, the comments and the straight up negativity. However, the relationship escapades of many of these female celebrities has made for great tabloid talk and inspired some insane and mostly unrealistic stories about relationships in Hollywood. A lot of people seem to forget that Hollywood is a big place and that there are endless opportunities for love. Many people who don’t feel the need to put a label on what they do with their personal relationships. While this list is only scratching the surface, here are a few women who chose a woman (or a few) over the men that were in their lives.

Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson experienced an unexpected surge in her career when she was cast in basically every Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy production. In the early 2000s, she was in a serious relationship with actress Cherry Jones. However, when it fizzled she began dating playwriter Tracy Letts which lasted several years but she just wasn’t satisfied, and the couple broke up a few years later. She is currently dating Holland Taylor which is shocking people for two reasons, one, she is publicly dating a woman and two, Taylor is 74 and Paulson is 42. Regardless, Paulson is infatuated with the new woman in her life and doesn’t care who knows it. She admits her life is “unconventional” but she wouldn’t have it any other way. It looks like this adorable couple is in it for the long haul.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan is currently spending her days in Dubai doing God knows what which is different because she used to be the L.A. party girl. During the time she was said party girl, she was going around Hollywood dating a number of people. Heath Ledger, Wilmer Valderrama, Colin Farrell, James Franco the list is long. We aren’t quite sure which one she was actually dating and not just hooking up with when she moved onto that now infamous relationship with Samantha Ronson that lasted years. The relationship ended some time ago, but Lohan has since described it as “toxic” maybe it was enough to scare her back to men. Her last relationship which was just as toxic if not more was with Egor Tarabasov so maybe she will switch back to women again soon.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart had several high-profile relationships. Beginning with Robert Pattinson who she co-starred with in Twilight. They dated for the entire franchise and then some. However, a scandal broke that showed her making out with a married director, it broke up her relationship and the director's marriage. Fast forward to current day, Stewart has moved onto someone she seems to be deeply into, Stella Maxwell. Maxwell is a model she has worked with Victoria Secret and Max Factor, the couple has been together for just about a year now. They have been very upfront and open about their relationship and have made the rounds on red carpets around the world. They definitely seem like they are in it for the long haul and they actually look cute together, not to mention for the first time, Stewart looks comfortable.

Cara Delevingne

No one was surprised when model and actress Cara Delevingne expressed her identity. She was once linked to Dane DeHaan but nowadays she is stepping out on the town with more women than men. She has always been aware of her identity, during an interview with Glamour magazine she said, “once I spoke about my sexual fluidity, people were like, “So you’re gay.” And I’m like, “No, I’m not gay.” She is just open about her preferences. She defines herself as fluid and has left men to date women and vice versa. Can you blame her? There is so much love in the world who doesn’t want to soak up as much as they can? She admits that she is sometimes still confused about what she likes and wants, she just likes the idea of being a fluid human being.

Demi Lovato

Back in September 2017 a single Demi Lovato was spotted cuddling up with a beautiful woman. If you recall she and her longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama broke up and shocked everyone by not getting back together. Her 2015 song "Cool For The Summer" indicated that she may be into dating women and in 2017 she did just that. The singer was linked to DJ Lauren Abedini who is out. The two went to Disney world together and they were holding hands and cuddling up a bit here and there. They could have just been friends holding hands but then a picture surfaced from the same day that had Demi giving her girl a little butt rub. They haven’t been spotted together for a while but they could just be very private or maybe Demi is onto the next.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore has been linked to Jane Pratt a journalist and editor for Jane magazine some time ago. Barrymore was fresh off of a relationship and during an interview with Howard Stern she talked about hooking up with women in her past but she refused to name names. Well a few years later, Pratt told Us magazine that she hooked up with Barrymore and hopes that one day she can go on Howard Stern’s show and “tell the truth” about her time with the actress. People have long speculated that it happened in 1997 when Barrymore was shooting for the debut cover of Jane magazine. It would make perfect sense timing wise. The actress has since moved on got married, had kids and flourished in her career.

Madonna

No one is surprised that Madonna has hooked up with both women and men. She is the queen of reinventing herself and opening up to new experiences. There have been several reports from Madonna and the people she has hooked up with talking about their time with the singer. She used to regularly go back and forth in her relationships and one of the more commonly talked about experiences involves Rosie Perez. Perez said that back in 1993 when Madonna and Vanilla Ice broke up she hooked up with Madonna and Tupac. Madonna had just recently started dating the rapper. She has gone on to hook up with the likes of Jenny Shimizu who claims she was flown around the world at the singer’s beck and call, nightclub owner Ingrid Casares, and Sandra Bernhard.

Lauren Morelli

Lauren Morelli is a writer most known for her work on Orange Is The New Black. She was in a relationship with her husband Steve Basilone for a little over two years. That is until she met Samira Wiley who plays Poussey on the Netflix show, she was immediately smitten. Morelli filed for divorce and a few months later penned a letter simply titled, "While Writing for 'Orange Is the New Black,' I Realized I Am Gay." She didn’t say who she was involved with and wouldn't say for at least 2 years. Now she is married to Wiley and happily living an open life. The couple had one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever seen in Palm Springs. They are still going strong maybe there will be kids in their future?

Wanda Sykes

Wanda Sykes was married to her husband for several years before she came out as a lesbian. It took her a long time to be honest and open with her friends and family, in fact, she didn’t come out to her mother until she was 40-years-old. During an interview with Oprah in 2013, she got very candid about being gay in Hollywood. She talked about what it was like being married to a man before realizing her true desires and how her life has now changed since coming out. She married her partner Alex in 2009 after they had been dating for 2 years in secret. They now have twins, one boy and one girl and seem to be living a happy existence. Since coming out, Sykes has been an advocate for equal rights for lesbians and gays.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie was a dead-eyed, rising actress when she starred in the film Hackers with her then fiancé Jonny Lee Miller. The couple would eventually marry in 1996 but when Jolie went to film the movie Foxfire and met Jenny Shimizu she said it was love at first sight. “I fell in love with her the first second I saw her,”. Actually, I saw when she was being cast in Foxfire, and I thought she had just read for my part. I thought I was going to lose the job.” She went on to say, “I probably would have married Jenny Shimizu if I hadn’t married my [first] husband.” During her 3-year marriage to Miller she was also seeing Shimizu regularly admitting that it contributed to their marriage ending in 1999.

Amber Heard

Amber Heard famously got out of what she claimed was an abusive relationship with Johnny Depp. She randomly hooked up with Elon Musk before moving back to ex-girlfriend Taysa Van Ree. Van Ree and Heard were a thing back in 2009 and this was only revealed after she had filed claims against Depp for abuse and having her own past criminal record brought up. It’s unsure if the couple are still together currently but sources say they are always on and off. It has also been reported that she has been going back and forth between Van Ree and Musk. As recently as February 2018, she had a fresh breakup with Musk. The actress has always maintained that she is fluid with her desires and ultimately, she just likes what she likes at the moment.

Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon was married to a school teacher from 1988 to 2003 then everything changed when she met her now wife, Christine Marinoni in 2002. They began officially dating her in 2004. When she was asked about the change in her identity she said, 'In terms of...orientation I don’t really feel I’ve changed. 'I’d been with men all my life, and I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.' She said that she may just be lucky, but everything has essentially worked out for her. Her kids love Marinoni and even refer to her as “mommy” and they now have a child of their own. Nixon is basically living her best life currently.

Portia De Rossi

Portia De Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres are an iconic couple, many couples look up to how great their relationship seems. However, before they were a couple she was married to a man named Melvin Metcalfe who decided it was a brilliant idea to leave her and take her brother’s wife with him. She came out as a lesbian in 2005 after she had finally gotten over such a harsh betrayal and has been with DeGeneres since 2008. 10 years later and the couple is still going strong despite rumors of a tumultuous relationship. They are basically everyone's #couplegoals, they support one another and genuinely seem to be in love. As for her ex, apparently he is currently single, his relationships are probably cursed after what he did.

Anne Heche

Anne Heche has one of the most talked about stories in Hollywood. She had always dated men and never considered herself attracted to the opposite gender until she met Ellen DeGeneres. She described her relationship with DeGeneres as genuine, she told Barbara Walters, " "I felt ... cared for, loved ... on a [physical] level ... that I had not [had] before with a man. I felt ... sensuous...in a way I hadn't before.” At the time of her relationship with DeGeneres she had left Steve Martin to pursue the relationship. Since her relationship with Ellen ended she has strictly been with men but refuses to label herself as anything but someone who loves love. In January 2018, she announced her divorce from her partner of 10 years James Tupper, let’s see where this break up will lead her.

Billie Jean King

Billie Jean King isn’t just famous for being associated with a Michael Jackson song (that actually had nothing to do with her), she was also a tennis pro. She was unfairly outed early on in her career and a film Battle Of The Sexes that came out this year is partly about her identity. King told NBC news that even though she was outed she wasn’t truly comfortable in her own skin until she was 51-years-old. She was married to a lawyer by the name of Larry King for years but carried on relationships with females in secret. During their divorce, she fell in love with her doubles partner Ilana Kloss and the couple are still together today. She has kept a great relationship with King and is even the godmother of one of his children.
