In October 2013, Miley Cyrus' MTV Video Music Awards performance caused quite a stir when she proactively danced and twerked on stage with Robin Thicke to his "Blurred Lines" song. Her moves seemed to horrify the VMA audience, including rapper, Drake, and the band, One Direction, but Cyrus claimed in an interview that she wanted her performance with Thicke to make headlines. "Me and Robin, the whole time said, 'You know, we're about to make history right now.' What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later, and people are still talking about it," Cyrus said, adding, "They're over thinking it. But I'm not in a relationship. I'm 22, I'm going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I'm with." Miley also decided to use her popularity and her celeb status to create The Happy Hippie Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps young people fight homelessness, especially for the LGBTQ community.

We also saw that Cyrus moved on from Patrick Schwarzenegger and was rumored to be dating model, Stella Maxwell. When Miley released her new album, Younger Now, her first song was titled, "Malibu," and showed Miley in a completely different light. The 24-year-old released a video for the song, featuring Miley smiling, bare-faced, walking down a beach with balloons, and just looking happier than ever singing about love. In fact, the song is reportedly dedicated to her fiancé, Liam. With a completely different sound from her Bangerz album, Miley looks more vulnerable and gets a lot more intimate with her fans.

According to Cosmopolitan, Miley wrote the song while she was in an Uber ride to the set of The Voice and dedicated it to Liam "because she wanted to take back the narrative of her relationship, which has been in the spotlight for years." Miley said, "They're going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, 'This is how I feel?'"
