The Rock took to Instagram to fire back at former Fast and Furious co-stars who doubted his new Hobbs and Shaw film would be successful.
It didn't feel like that long ago when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was publicly beefing with his former castmates from the Fast and Furious franchise. While he didn't release names, it was fairly clear Johnson had issues with both Vin Diesel and Tyrese. Specifically, Tyrese was upset that Johnson was getting a spinoff film and putting Fast and Furious 9 on hold.
At that time, Tyrese wrote, "Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU." He added that he figured Hobbs and Shaw might become the new Baywatch which was a massive flop for Johnson.
When the film started a bit more slowly than some had anticipated, Tyrese took another shot. He said,
"I have to show my respects for one thing…. He tried........ Folks called me a hater…. And attacked me for speaking out..... Breaking up the family clearly doesn’t have the value that one would assume it does."
The Rock Shoves It Right Down Tyrese's Throat
With new box office totals now out for the Hobbs and Shaw film, Johnson is making doubters like Tyrese eat their words. Raking in more than $700 million since its release, Hobbs and Shaw has set records for the Fast and Furious franchise as well as broken a number of other records that continue to prove The Rock was not only right to make the movie, but is basically the man (sorry Ric Flair).
The Rock took to Instagram and sent a subtle message to Tyrese and others when he posted a story of Deadline's piece showing just how successful the film has been. He added the caption, "Assassins quietly play chess♟loud clowns play checkers.Thank you audiences worldwide for this incredible support and massive win."
Fast and Furious is set to film another sequel starring Diesel, Tyrese and John Cena who has been added to the cast. Will it be as successful as Hobbs and Shaw? That remains to be seen. It will also be interesting to see if Tyrese finally shuts his mouth or if he uses successful numbers to act like a child and keep the beef with Johnson alive.
