Whenever a movie does well from critical and financial standpoints, it's easy to assume that a sequel will eventually follow.
Such is the case with Todd Phillips' Joker, which recently surpassed the $1 billion mark at the box office. The movie, which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, has received plenty of strong reviews since its release one month ago.
It was said earlier this week by The Hollywood Reporter (citing sources) that a sequel to Joker is already in the works. Sorry to burst the bubble, Joker fans, but nothing is actually confirmed yet.
According to Deadline, a sequel isn't actually in the works yet. Citing sources, the report outlined that Phillips and writer Scott Silver haven't committed any "real moves to draft" a sequel, and a deal hasn't even started in that regard.
This isn't to say that there won't be a sequel to the latest blockbuster film down the road, but nothing is set in stone yet. After all, Joker was only released a month ago, and sequels require careful planning and discussions.
Only time will really tell if there's a Joker sequel or not. As everyone knows, money usually talks in the movie industry. With excellent reviews and over $1 billion at the box office, Warner Bros. has plenty of good reason to ask Phillips for another Joker film. Even if a sequel were to happen. it may not be announced for another couple of years.
With Bruce Wayne, his parents and Alfred Pennyworth appearing in Joker, some may be wondering about the possibility of the Clown Prince of Crime appearing in Matt Reeves' The Batman. Well, Robert Pattinson shut those rumors down, so don't get your hopes up too high.
