Disney has had to reshuffle Marvel's release slate a fair bit. Here's how it will look in 2021 should everything go to plan.

The entertainment industry continues to be shaken up by the ongoing global pandemic for a number of reasons. Sets have been forced to completely shut down, both during lockdown and since then should a member of the cast or crew test positive for COVID-19. Release dates of movies also continue to get pushed back as theaters are unable to open in many parts of the world.

Those in charge of Marvel's release schedule have a bigger headache than most in the industry. Disney and Marvel have spent the past 12 years intricately weaving a tapestry made up of more than 20 movies in the form of the MCU. That tapestry was supposed to have had two more movies and at least one TV show added to it by this point.

That has not happened. Black Widow, which was meant to hit theaters back in May, will now not see the light of day until May of 2021. Since all of the MCU's projects are connected, the continued delay of Black Widow's release means everything else has to be pushed back too. That includes follow up movie The Eternals, and also Marvel's upcoming Disney+ shows.

Above is the MCU's new 2021 release schedule courtesy of Fandom. As you can see, WandaVision, which was originally supposed to air after The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, is up first on January 15, 2021. After that will be the MCU's first theatrical release of the year on May 7, Black Widow, and then Shang-Chi a little more than two months later on July 9. The Eternals and Spider-Man 3 will follow up towards the end of the year in November and December respectively.

As for the rest of 2021, three more TV shows will be released on Disney+. The aforementioned Falcon and Winter Soldier, but also Loki and What If...? None of those shows currently have firm release dates, but will hit the streaming service at some point in 2021 should all things go to plan. Disney will be hoping so anyway as The Mandalorian can't hold up the fort forever, no matter how great it is.
