Multiple outlets are reporting that Jonah Hill is in talks to play a villainous character in the upcoming Batman movie.
DC is undergoing quite the overhaul where the masked vigilante and his regular company are concerned, with Robert Pattinson having replaced Ben Affleck as The Bat. There's also a Joker movie on the way that's set to hit theaters pretty soon, with Joaquin Phoenix playing the annoying but crafty villain. As a side note, Phoenix and Pattinson are unlikely to cross paths in a movie, according to those in the know.
Westworld star Jeffrey Wright is also said to be involved in discussions to take up the role of Commissioner James Gordon in the next Batman film while The Hollywood Reporter, Collider and Deadline are all reporting that Hill has been lodged in discourse over a role as a villain in the movie. The exact villain is still unknown, however.
Collider says he's wanting to play The Riddler but THR suggests that no character has been chosen yet. It's said to be between The Riddler and The Penguin; he seems more suited to the latter - but you never know.
THR adds that negotiations between the actor and Warner Bros. are in the early stages and the parties are still undecided as it pertains to the role he will take up. It's also understood that the film will bring fans many of the villains they recognize.
If Hill does land the role, it will be the first time he plays a comic book character. But the star does have a bit of history with the DC Universe after voicing Green lantern in The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
As things stand, the Batman movie is slated for release on June 25, 2021. It's quite a wait but we will get The joker on October 4 this year, Birds of Prey on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020, to make it easier.
