Joker 2 Is Reportedly Already In The Works

The good news continues to roll in for Joker fans. The critically acclaimed movie recently surpassed the $1 billion mark at the box office, and now a sequel is on the way.

It's hard to imagine a time when not only were superhero movies pretty poor, but the whole genre was a very niche interest. Fast forward to 2019 and the highest-grossing movie of all time is a comic-book adaptation. Avengers: Endgame toppled Avatar and claimed the number one spot earlier this year.

We're also in a place where superhero movies no longer feel as if they are all made with the same cookie-cutter. Far from it, in fact. There's arguably something for everyone in the superhero genre nowadays, hence so many of them managing to break the billion-dollar barrier at the box office. The latest movie to achieve that goal was the R-rated Joker.

The good news continues to roll in for Joker's creators and, more importantly, its fans. According to early reports from THR, a sequel to the dark movie depicting Arthur Fleck's descent into madness is already in the works. The project was always intended to be a standalone movie, but there have been reports of a followup happening since Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips discussed the possibility on set.

$1 billion later and if you ask us, Warner Bros. would be crazier than the Joker himself not to create at least one more Joker movie. Phoenix and Phillips will once again be a part of the movie according to reports, and Scott Silver, who wrote the first screenplay, will also return for the next movie. Equally as exciting is further reports that Phillips will also create one other DC Origin story movie.

The assumption is that the second origin story will be the tale of another DC villain. Perhaps Superman baddie Lex Luthor. Maybe we could see another Batman villain brought into the mix. Penguin, The Riddler, Bane, there are a lot of options for Phillips who we're sure has already selected which villain's story he wants to tell next. For now, we'll stick to daydreaming about what could be in store for Phoenix's Joker.
