Despite home release numbers being down for a number of other films, John Wick 3 has provided Lionsgate with its best numbers in five years.
It seems like everything Keanu Reeves touches turns to gold. In reality, that may not be 100 percent true, but for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, Keanu is certainly providing some strong numbers for Lionsgate Studios who are seeing some fantastic home release numbers roll in.
The film just became the studio's highest-grossing home entertainment title in five years. Not since The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 was released in 2014 has the studio been gifted with such tremendous results. To date, the third installment of the mega-popular action films has sold more than 3 million units in hard discs, electronic sales, and VOD, Deadline reports. The numbers have been so staggering, the film even topped its own previous installment, John Wick: Chapter 2 , by outselling it within the first three days of EST release.
One of the features that have fans buying the DVD and Blu-ray in droves is the many behind-the-scenes makings of the film bonuses. There are no deleted scenes to speak of, but the films have developed a cult following and many fans are interested in what goes into making each chapter.
Lionsgate President of Worldwide Home Entertainment Ron Schwartz said in a statement to Deadline:
The popularity of the John Wick franchise continues to surge with strong growth across packaged media, electronic sell-through and video-on-demand platforms. The success of John Wick: Chapter 3 is a testament to the film’s incredible cast, led by Keanu Reeves, and amazing creative team, the efforts of our sales and marketing executives, and the vibrancy of the home entertainment business across all of its platforms.
John Wick 4 Is Coming
So, with the success of the John Wick 3 in both theaters and on home release, will there be a John Wick 4? Of course. The fourth chapter is happening with a release date of May 21, 2021. If you've seen the third film, that was pretty obvious even prior to these home release numbers being so staggering.
