Disney CEO Bob Iger Says "Star Wars" Series Will Go On Hiatus

Fans of the Star Wars series have been fortunate to have seen a new trilogy by Disney, but after The Rise of Skywalker, fans may be waiting awhile for the next film in the franchise.

Per Variety Executive Director Brent Lang, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the Star Wars series will be head "into a hiatus" after The Rise of Skywalker which is slated for a Dec. 20 release.

The good news is that fans won't have to wait too long for more Star Wars content, as Iger noted that they have more upcoming "activity."

The Force Awakens hit the big screens in Dec. 2015, and two years later, The Last Jedi was released. The Rise of Skywalker will mark the third Star Wars film released in the last five years, but fans will probably be waiting 2019 for the next one.

This will obviously disappoint plenty of fans in the Star Wars universe, but sometimes this is for the better. Disney simply isn't going to make more Star Wars films just for the sake of it. By going on hiatus, they'll have more time to think things over while piecing together the right storylines for more films.

Now that we know the Star Wars series will be going on hiatus, it adds to even more curiosity as to what will happen in The Rise of Skywalker. Perhaps there will be some closure for some of the main characters, including Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega).

We'll get our answers in less than two months from now. After The Rise of Skywalker, fans will have to sit back and wait to see what will come next for the franchise.
