Why There Was No Post-Credits Scene After Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame was almost flawless. Our only issue? The lack of a teaser scene at the very end of the credits.

It has now been more than a week since the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame hit theaters and honestly, we still haven't calmed down. If you have somehow still not seen the movie and managed to avoid spoilers for this entire time, then this is where you need to get off as the following will be riddled with details about the movie.

Now that the six people who still haven't seen it are out of the way, let's get into the nitty-gritty. Endgame did exactly what it was supposed to do, and that's perfectly tie up 22 movies and 11 years of work. Iron Man, the hero who started the franchise, sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos and save the universe. Plus, Captain America, The First Avenger, got his happy ending. Or beginning. Time travel is confusing.

However, that doesn't mean the MCU has now come to an end. There are newer heroes that we have only just started to get to know. The likes of Captain Marvel and Black Panther. That's why most movie-goers would have been expecting a scene at the end of Endgame's credits. A sneak peek into the beginning of phase four of the MCU.

If you're like us and you sat through the entirety of the credits, you'll know that that scene never came. Co-director Joe Russo explained why to USA Today, and that they never even considered including a credits scene like they have done for all the other MCU movies. "This is it. This is the ending. The book is closed on that chapter of the Marvel universe, and a new book will get written," he explained.

Russo and his brother also discussed how great it felt to not have to worry about "what's next" for the first time since they teamed up with Marvel. Although the story will continue, it will go on without them, at least for now. If you did stay until the very end of the credits, you were rewarded, sort of. Those who remained would have heard the sound of metal hitting metal. That was actually a sound clip of Tony Stark making his very first Iron Man suit in the movie that begat the MCU.
