Infinity War was left open-ended and set the sequel up. It had an interesting ending that saw Thanos successful in his mission and accomplishing his goal. In the end, several popular heroes turned to dust and faded away. The ending of the film has fans speculating about next year’s highly anticipated sequel. All kinds of interesting and bizarre theories are floating around the Internet. There are some that are outrageous and others that are intriguing. Regardless if they’re strange or simple they’re all very possible. In fact, several theories will likely end up happening. Here is a look at 20 Fan Theories About The Upcoming Avengers Film That Will Probably Come True.
Most guys get a high paying job, buy an expensive car and spend hours in the gym all to impress women. Some guys will do anything for a girl they have a crush on. Thanos is no different except he’s trying to rule the galaxy. In the comics, Thanos is motivated by his obsession to impress a girl he has a crush on, Death. Death is always turning him down despite his efforts. There is a possibility that Death could be introduced in the upcoming sequel to strengthen his motivation in the MCU.
This seems like the least unlikely theory but anything is possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comic books, the X-Men played a crucial role in several storylines. However, they’re missing in the MCU because Fox owned the film rights. Recently, Disney acquired several Fox properties including the rights to the X-Men franchise. This has fans hoping that the brave mutants will show up in the upcoming sequel. They might not show up in Avengers 4, but will certainly pop up at some point in the MCU.
There are 6 Infinity Stones and all have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 6 stones are the Space Stone, Mind Stone, Reality Stone, Power Stone, Time Stone, and Soul Stone. The stones are the result of six singularities prior to the Big Bang. Each stone controls an important part of life. Thanos is able to complete his mission by finding all six stones. However, there is a possible seventh stone, the Ego Stone. This stone might be the key to defeating Thanos.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe often takes inspiration from the comic books but also goes in its own direction. Some characters have been left out or saved for later. In the Infinity War comics, a cosmic entity known as The Living Tribunal is essentially given power over the Infinity Stones and makes it impossible to use them together all again. One theory suggests that The Living Tribunal could make an appearance in the upcoming sequel. In Doctor Strange, Mordo uses a weapon he claims belonged to The Living Tribunal, which further suggests the character's possible appearance.
Towards the end of Infinity War, Shuri attempts to separate Vision from the Mind Stone while a battle rages on in Wakanda. It seemed that Shuri wasn’t able to complete her task and Thanos was able to get the Mind Stone. He also destroyed Vision in the process. However, it’s highly likely that Shuri backed up what she was doing. It’s possible that she did manage to separate Vision and the Mind Stone. It’s also possible that he's saved on her computer and she could create a whole new body for Vision.
One theory proposes that Doctor Strange let Thanos have the Time Stone. It suggests that in the one scenario that they’re successful Thanos has the gauntlet. Another theory tied into that suggests that when Thanos snapped his fingers he broke time. In the solo Doctor Strange film, there are several stern warnings about the consequences of messing with time. Breaking time could cause a great deal of damage for everyone including Thanos. By breaking time he may have he created a paradox involving the Time Stone.
In Thor: Ragnark, Thor is forced to destroy his own plant of Asgard in order to defeat his evil sister Hela. The people escape but nothing is left of the once great planet. Thor is on a mission to defeat Thanos but after he’ll likely focus on rebuilding Asgard. At the time they ran into Thanos they were actually on their way to find a new home. Once the battle is over Thor will likely resume his mission to find a home for the people and rebuild Asgard.
Clint “Hawkeye” Barton was one of the many popular heroes missing in Infinity War. His character decided to go into retirement following the events of Age of Ultron and Civil War. His family is all that matters to him. However, set pics of the upcoming sequel reveal that Hawkeye returns with an updated look. This has resulted in fans believing that Hawkeye loses his family because of Thanos’s snap. The theory suggests that he dons the persona of Ronin to gain revenge, which is similar to his comic book counterpart.
As noted, at the end of Infinity War several characters slowly fade away into dust. However, there are also several characters whose fate was never shown. It’s unclear if these characters simply turned to dust as well. Early in the film, Wong leaves The Avengers after Doctor Strange is taken. Fans speculate that Wong will return in the upcoming sequel to aid the heroes and save Doctor Strange. It’s also possible that he can take the heroes that survived to another universe or realm. The theory suggests that he could play an important role in bringing back the heroes that turned to dust.
Adam Warlock plays a key role in the Infinity War comic book storyline. There have been several hints dropped at his possible appearance but the studio has also denied his involvement. In the comics, Warlock leads the Avengers to victory after Thanos has accomplished his mission. James Gunn had intended to included Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but cut him due to time restraints. However, in the post-credit scene, Ayesha creates a man she calls Adam. The theory suggests that this man becomes Adam Warlock.
At one point in Infinity War Doctor Strange sees every possible encounter with Thanos. In the millions of scenarios that he sees The Avengers are only successful in one. Earlier in the film, he states that he will protect the Time Stone over the life of Iron Man and Spider-Man. However, when Thanos has Iron Man beat Strange hands over the Time Stone to save Iron Man's life. The theory suggests that in the one scenario they're successful Strange handed over the Time Stone. It’s also suggested that Strange has entered the Quantum Realm with Ant-Man.
Infinity War was filled with every major hero but one, in particular, was missing. Ant-Man wasn’t included because he starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was released a few months after Infinity War. The post-credits scene tied directly into the end of Infinity War. Hank Pym, Janet, and Hope send Ant-Man into the Quantum Realm. While he’s in there, Thanos snaps his fingers and Hank, Janet and Hope turn to dust. They fade away similar to the ending of Infinity War. This theory suggests that the Quantum Realm protected Ant-Man and that Thanos’s powers are useless there. The theory suggests that the Quantum Realm is the key to defeating Thanos and ties into several other theories.
There are many theories that Scarlett Witch is a key to defeating Thanos. Regardless, she’ll certainly play a major part in the upcoming sequel. She has gone through a lot since entering the MCU. Her brother died, she inadvertently caused the death of several innocent people and lost the love of her life. This theory suggests that once Thanos is defeated the Infinity Stones will be separated once again. If that’s the case then The Scarlett Witch could end up with the Reality Stone in order to bring Vision back. Additionally, the power from the Reality Stone combined with her powers makes her more similar to the comic book version.
At the end of Infinity War, Thanos completely destroys the Infinity Gauntlet. It doesn’t matter to Thanos since he accomplished his mission. However, the heroes are now tasked with undoing the damage. One theory suggests that a second gauntlet will come into play. In Infinity War, a prototype of the weapon is seen in Eitri’s workshop. Additionally, an upcoming Captain America Lego toy includes an added weapon, the Infinity Gauntlet. This might be a sign of a second Infinity Gauntlet.
Iron Man and Captain America are synonymous with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’re two of the central heroes and the heart and soul of the MCU. Infinity War ended with several “deaths”. However, those will likely be undone but some fans believe an ultimate sacrifice might still be needed. Both Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) have fulfilled their MCU commitments. There are no plans for anymore solo films. This has resulted in speculation that either one or both characters could be written off in Avengers 4.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has managed to create a universe filled with several famous heroes. The franchise grew from Iron Man to included The Avengers and The Guardians of the Galaxy. One theory suggests that several heroes, such as Iron Man and Captain America might be written off to make room for an all-new team of Avengers. The New Avengers would feature Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man. The MCU already announced the Spidy is an integral part of the next phase of MCU films.
This theory actually ties into several other possible fan theories. According to Reddit user accountfornerdstuff, when Thanos snapped his fingers he sent the heroes into a parallel universe. The MCU has already dabbled a bit in parallel universes. The theory suggests that Ant-Man discovers hidden doors to other universes in the Quantum Realm. He finds the heroes and leads them back to the Battle of New York. They can retrieve two of the stones and set out to make their own Infinity Gauntlet or prevent Thanos from creating his.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nebula is one of Thanos' children. She was raised alongside her adopted sister Gamora. Thanos replaced her body parts with cybernetic enhancements every time she lost a sparring match to Gamora. She develops a deep hatred for Thanos and is out to stop him. In the comics, Nebula defeats Thanos and uses the Infinity Gauntlet to undo his actions. Many fans believe there is a very strong possibility that this theory will play out in Avengers 4. Also in the comics, Nebula becomes consumed with the Infinity Gauntlet’s power and is turned into a villain.
The Soul Stone theory is based on the Soul Stone or gem from the comics. In the comics, the Soul World exists in the Soul Stone. It’s described as a type of purgatory. It’s confirmed that Gamora’s appearance at the end of the Infinity War is in the Soul World. This suggests that the upcoming sequel could feature two running plots. One where the heroes that survived must figure out how to defeat Thanos while the others are trapped in the Soul World and must figure a way out.
Infinity War ended with Thanos attaining all six infinity stones and adding them to his gauntlet. He snaps his fingers and destroys the gauntlet. Moments later, some of the heroes begin to fade away to dust. Many fans believe that some of the heroes might have to travel back in time to undo the damage done by Thanos. The theory is supported by leaked pictures from the sequel, which features The Avengers back at the Battle of New York from the first Avengers film. It suggests that the heroes go back in time to destroy the Infinity Stones to prevent Thanos from getting them in the first place.
This theory is pretty much confirmed. In the post-credits scene from Infinity War, Nick Fury sends out a distress call and the symbol on the device belongs to Captain Marvel. The theory suggests that Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) is the key to defeating Thanos. Brie Larson will portray Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in the upcoming sequel but she gets her own film first. Captain Marvel will be released March 8, 2019, and is set in the 1990’s. Thanos still has to contend with the Avengers but he’s met his match in Captain Marvel.
