Some people may be surprised to hear that there is actually a science to attraction and desirability. The science behind attraction is designed to bring together a man and woman for reproduction. As we all know, reproduction is what continues the evolution of the human race. According to Dr. Midge Wilson of De Paul University, any time that a man checks out a woman, he's actually performing a "Reproductive Fitness Assessment," of sorts.
Contrary to popular belief, attraction is not so much a choice as it is a natural basic instinct. According to numerous different studies conducted throughout the last century, it's actually possible to take advantage of a man's biological desires, or in other words, trick him into falling in love with you. The fact that there are scientifically proven ways to gain the attention of a man, without him even realizing it, comes as especially relieving news; because now I don't have to finish off that love potion I've been trying to perfect since last summer. If you've always wondered how to increase your attractiveness to the opposite sex, or are just plain curious about nature's biological laws of attraction, look no further than this article. Here are 9 scientifically proven ways women can appear more attractive to men.
Smiling makes a woman 10 times more attractive to a man because it stimulates the sensory rewards circuit part of his brain. Smiles are disarming, which puts him at ease, making him more comfortable in your presence. Smiling will also make him think you like him (whether or not you do) and we're all attracted to those who like us. The whiter and straighter the teeth, the more alluring; this being indicative of healthy genetics, which human beings instinctively aim to pass along. Smiling makes a person more approachable in general, so be sure to keep up with those dentist appointments, brush regularly and for goodness sake, don't forget to floss!
8 Wear Red
The color red has been proven to enhance a man's attraction to a woman because it makes them appear more sexually desirable. That's not only exclusive to red form fitting clothes, but a red lip color as well. It's believed that a plump red lip mimics the widening of blood vessels that occurs during sexual arousal- subconsciously reminding him of the obvious. According to the study, men are completely oblivious to the powerful effect that the flaming color has on their senses. The study also showed that red in fact does not influence a woman's perception of the attractiveness of another woman, nor does it influence men's perception of a woman's overall personality. Our advice here is to keep it as subtle as possible. You don't want to go overboard with the color red, but using just the perfect shade for your complexion will prove very impressive results. Another study also demonstrated the same conclusion in primates; when some female primates are ready to mate, her bottom will turn bright red.
7 Lengthen Your Hair
According to scientists, long lustrous healthy hair connotes health and fertility, whereas disheveled, unkempt hair is likely to decrease a woman's facial attractiveness and their perceived health. Long hair is universally symbolic of femininity and grace. If you can't naturally grow your hair to Rapunzel like lengths, hair extensions are a great substitute. Just remember to keep it as realistic and believable as possible. In a study conducted in 1995, men were shown photographs of both women with long and short hair, and regardless of facial features, women with longer hair scored consistently more attractive than those with short hair.
6 Hangout With Girlfriends
Referred to as the cheerleader effect, A study at the University of California determined that "individual faces will seem more attractive when presented in a group because they will appear more similar to the average group face, which is more attractive than group members’ individual faces." If you missed that, it basically means that even if you're not the best looking of the bunch, when you're with a group of friends, you'll automatically look even better than you usually do on your own . The study tested this hypothesis in five different experiments, where people rated the attractiveness of faces presented both alone and in a group with the same gender, and results proved that the individual received higher attractiveness ratings while in a group. This means that the more he sees you with your girlfriends, the more good looking you can appear.
5 Look Symmetrical
For the majority of us, the only way to successfully pull this off is with make-up (but thank god it exists). The science behind the attractiveness of a symmetrical face and body, is the indication it gives off that an individual has the genetic goods to survive development, is healthy, and is a good and fertile choice for mating. Evolutionary biologist Randy Thornhill, of the University of New Mexico, has this to say about symmetry, "If you choose a perfectly symmetrical partner and reproduce with them, your offspring will have a better chance of being symmetric and able to deal with perturbations." Perturbations being genetic mutations and environmental pressures that are often responsible for asymmetry in babies. For help with symmetrical make-up tricks, we highly recommend YouTube.
4 Mimic His Body Language
According to a speed dating study, women who subtly mimicked their date scored higher evaluations at the end of the event. When doing this, it's important to not be so obvious. If he runs his hands through his hair, wait a few minutes and "unconsciously" do the same (with the other hand.) He'll subconsciously get the message that you're into him, and it will make him think he likes you too. Body language is a powerful communicator and very important in the early stages of physical attraction, as it helps to convince the other person that you share a lot in common. First impressions are everything, aren't they?
3 Heighten Your Voice
In females, a higher pitched voice signifies youth and a smaller body. It also subconsciously reminds men that women are the fairer and more delicate sex, in need of providing and protecting by someone "stronger." Sorry, we just had to put that in quotations (the keyboard hasn't quite evolved to express eye-rolling as yet.) While a low and rich voice a la Mariah Carey is definitely considered by men to be sexy, studies have shown that a higher and softer speaking voice a la Marilyn Monroe triggers his protective instincts, which really isn't a bad thing.
2 Look Alike
Research shows that longer lasting couples tend to look similar. This even includes interracial couples. As creepy as it may sound, people are typically attracted to other people who physically remind them of themselves. Psychologist J. Philippe Rushton at The University of Western Ontario found that having similar genetics plays 34% of the role in friendship and mate selection. J.Philippe tells LiveScience.com "The main theory is that some genes work well in combination with each other. If these genes evolved to work in combination, then you don't want to break that up too much for your offspring. Finding a mate with similar genes will help you ensure this." Research actually shows spouses with genetic similarities are more likely to have a happy marriage and are also willing to sacrifice more for each other, as strange as it may sound. So don't be afraid to give the guy from last night at the bar who looked an awful lot like your cousin Matt, a chance.
1 Be Curvy
Men prefer a larger waist to hip ratio of 7:10, one of the reasons being that a curvier bottom half is an important factor in child birthing, indicating fertility. When men see a ratio they perceive to be favorable, they're subconsciously thinking, "she can have my baby." A study at the University of California showed that women with larger hips, thighs and buttocks, actually perform better in intelligence tests, as do their children. Extra fat in these areas contain omega-3 fatty acids to help mothers and their baby's brain during pregnancy. If that's not motivation enough to quit starving ourselves into that elusive size 2, then I don't know what is. If you're not naturally built this way, don't fret. There are plenty of non surgical ways to alter and enhance your figure including waist training, proper nutrition, and exercises such as squats and crunches. Remember ladies, diligence is key!
