Madonna and Guy Ritchie

With an estimated fortune of £300 million between them, the divorce of Madonna and her film-director husband Guy Ritchie could have been one of the most expensive ever, but Madonna's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said Ritchie received "only" between £49 million and £60 million in cash and property.

Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone

Slavica Ecclestone, the wife of Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, filed for divorce in early 2008 and was granted a 'quickie' divorce several months later. The Ecclestones are reputed to be worth £3 billion meaning that this case may see the highest award to a wife in legal history.

Phil Collins

Phil Collins has reportedly paid his ex-wife £25 million in a divorce settlement. The Genesis front man announced his split from third wife Orianna Cevey, 35, in 2006. It's not the first expensive divorce for Collins, who had already handed his second wife Jill Tavelman £17 million.

Paul McCartney and Heather Mills

It's not the most expensive divorce settlement on the record books, but Heather Mills has expressed her delight with her settlement of £24.3 million following her divorce from Sir Paul McCartney.

Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall

Despite being together for 22 years and having two children together, Jagger successfully challenged the legality of their Balinese wedding and received an annulment. Hall only got £10 million of the singer’s fortune.

Michael and Diandra Douglas

Before he was married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas was hitched to Diandra for 22 years. Diandra was awarded £22 million, as well as homes in Beverly Hills and Majorca when they divorced.

Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving

In 1989, the film director and his wife split after four years of marriage. Irving successfully contested their prenuptial agreement and received £70 million, roughly half of Spielberg's fortune.

Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison Ford

In 2006, Harrison Ford’s wife negotiated a piece of his future earnings from films he made while they were married, including DVD sales of The Fugitive and the Indiana Jones trilogy. She was also granted £50 million for their 21 years of marriage.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

The news that Britney Spears’ marriage to Kevin “K-Fed” Federline had ended just shy of their two-year anniversary shocked the world. Federline is reported to have settled for just £500,000 of the “Toxic” singer’s fortune, although the final terms are still unknown.
