One of the three ultra rare Patek Philippe Ref. 1563 watches in yellow gold is selling for a starting price of $890,000 and is expected to sell for over $1.55 million.
The watch comes in 35mm 18k yellow gold case, 13 lignes caliber, metal dust cover, silvered dial, luminous Breguet numerals, outer railway five minute divisions and outer tachometer scale, two subsidiary dials for constant seconds and 30 minutes register, circular water-resistant-type case, screw back, two round chronograph buttons in the band, 18K gold Patek Philippe buckle, case, dial and movement signed.
Patek Reference 1563 was produced in the 1940's and is known as the Duke Ellington chronograph as the Jazz legend purchased one of the limited three copies on July 28, 1948 during his trip to Switzerland. Ellington bought it at Patek Philippe’s Geneva boutique for $673,500. The second Patek Ref. 1563 was sold in 2010 by Christie’s for $1.128 million.
Another exceptional Patek Phillipe piece, a Ref 2499 in pink gold is about to surpass the yellow gold one. It is the headline piece of the upcoming auction of Christie’s in Geneva. The Ref 2499 own by Eric Clapton last year was sold for $3.6 million.
