10 Of The Most Expensive Age-Defying Treatments for Men

During the last decade men of all ages have started taking action on maintaining and improving their appearance. The standard regimen consisted of a daily shower and teeth-brushing twice-daily. But now that most women look ten years younger than their birth age, men are noticing the disparity between their looks and their partner's. Previously, even the thought of sunscreen was considered to be too fussy or a woman's thing.

According to David Goldberg, MD and director of Skin Laser and Surgery Specialists, "A man's fear of being phased out of the marketplace because he doesn't look as young as his colleagues is very real. Today, more than ever, there is competition with the younger guys, and a lot of men are beginning to feel it."

The other big change that has aging men a little more on edge is a 6-letter word: Cougar. Many women are now turning to younger men for their looks, vitality and energy whereas in the past, it was considered to be foolish and degrading. Face it, women in their 70s look better than some men in their 50s, so it is about time for things to change or get left behind.

There are hundreds of available products and treatments, so we did our homework to narrow it down to ten of the most priciest and popular of the bunch. Although less expensive treatments can be found, we knew you'd want the créme-de-la-créme so when you're ready to man up to look younger, you can refer to this handy list.

7 IPL Laser Treatment for Spot Removal - $250/session

Via: doctorv.ca

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment generally requires more than one visit to completely eradicate brown spots, depending on the area of the body and the intensity of the age/liver spots. Since old-looking hands are a tell-tale sign of aging, many men start treatments there. But the treatments can be performed on any area of the body, such as the face, neck and chest.

Some men prefer to have numbing cream applied beforehand, as the IPL sting can be a bit of a surprise. Although the laser has a cooling platen that is applied immediately after each pulse, so it is not a painful procedure. After the treatment, the red and brown spots will temporarily darken and within a week or so will often fall off in the shower leaving the skin spot free and younger looking.

6 Ultherapy Face & Neck Lift - $3,000

Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment that works with the body's natural healing processes and ultrasound technology. The ultrasound is used by the physician to view the various layers of the skin while it is being stimulated. The treatment basically stimulates collagen production in the deepest dermal layers so it will take three to six months to notice a difference.

The treatment takes about an hour and there is no downtime, although your skin might be a little red or swollen for a while afterwards. Generally, only one treatment is needed.

5 Liquid FaceLift Treatments - $3,500

Via: www.artemedica.com

Having a liquid facelift is the fastest way to look younger, as there is little downtime and the results are fairly immediate. Basically, a liquid facelift consists of having the creases, wrinkles and lines filled and some muscles frozen with injectables.

There are several popular dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Juvederm®, Radiesse® and Sculptra® that are used to fill in areas such as the deepened nasolabial folds along the sides of the nose and mouth. The new Juvederm Voluma® is the latest filler on the market and can add volume to sagging cheeks, which helps create a fresher looking face. Botox is the injectable that is used to reduce crow's feet and frown lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. Sounds like a lot of fun, right?

The liquid facelift can last 12 or more months and the cost varies, depending on each person's issues.

4 Eyelid Surgery - $4,500 (Upper and Lower)

The eyes are one of the first areas to appear aged and one of the easiest to fix. If people are mentioning that you look tired or angry or you've noticed unattractive dark circles or puffiness forming, this treatment is one to consider. Having blepharoplasty is quite rewarding as it can take 10 or so years off a man's appearance.

Some men only need the upper or lower eyelid surgery, it just depends on whether there is enough fat that can be removed. The general surgery and outpatient procedure can take up to three hours to complete. Within one-two weeks, swelling will subside and within a few months all trace signs will disappear leaving the patient with a younger look that can last years.

3 Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) - $4,740/year

Via: www.optimalhormonetherapy.com

Recommended for men whose testosterone levels are found to be lower than normal, TRT is said to help regain vitality. It is called hypogonadism and when you are given monthly injections, it should also increase energy, improve sexual desire, muscle mass, strength and erectile function.

According to some physicians it can also decrease depression and body fat while improving overall visuospatial cognitive function and verbal memory. We, women, wish it would also improve "selective memory". But, we're guessing there is probably no cure for that.

2 Chemical Peels - $6,500 (Intensive)

Via: lidlift.com

Chemical peels can solve several issues, such as skin texture, blotchiness, large pores and wrinkles. Although there are mild peels that will cost around $100-300, the intense chemical peels will exfoliate layers of skin. Once the old skin sloughs away, younger skin is revealed but must be protected or hyperpigmentation can occur - which means a blotchy or uneven skin tone.

The photo above is the result of a lower eyelid peel and this man looks years younger.

1 Hair Replacement Therapy - $5,000-15,000

Via: metro-medispa.com

Hair replacement therapy is performed by removing a strip of scalp from the back of the head dividing the strip into tiny grafts (500 to 2,000). The back of the head is stitched and that area remains hidden by the surrounding hair. The head is then numbed before the procedure which takes between four and eight hours. It is a very tedious and detailed procedure, as each tiny graft is placed in each hole that was made at the beginning of the surgery. The new hair grows in slowly, but in about eight months over half of the grafts will have come in.

Recovery can take time, as the grafted area stays tender for some time, but the results are natural. This treatment is possibly the most sought after and rightfully so, according to  WebMD approximately 80 percent of men under 70 experience male pattern baldness.
