The Tesla brand has always been recognized for their achievements in innovations. Whether it be creating the first fully autonomous self driving vehicles or transitioning a portion of the companies equity into Bitcoin, the company and brand have been at the forefront of several major changes within both the tech and financial industry. It should come as no surprise then when in November of 2017, Tesla announced they would be releasing their own take on the luxury item, the Yacht.

While we've covered this amazing model in the past, the information has been coming in faster and more furious as we inch closer to its debut. With fans clamoring for more information, it only makes sense that we revisit the vessel that is about to change the game on the wide-open sea.

Tesla's knack for innovations have carried their way into the yacht's design, making it the world's first electric yacht. The feature adds to the items luxury value, making the vessel completely silent. But interestingly enough, Elon Musk has distanced himself from the project, claiming little to almost no personal involvement or responsibility in both its development and its design. Instead, it seems like this multi-million dollar investment stems from several others designers and Tesla employees. Dhruv Prasad, a designer out of Bangalore, India, has been involved with the designing process, contributing to some new ideas and innovations for the Model Y, where, we assume, the Y stands for yacht. But what makes this yacht worth the over $700 million list price? It features a wide range of amenities and performance-based promises that make it stand out like a variety of other Tesla products.

40 Meters Long

The giant squid-looking structure is a massive 131 feet long, or 40 meters, featuring a sharp and narrow tip that makes it both aerodynamic and stylish. But with the utilization of the superstructure atop one of the ships two decks, the yacht boasts impressive interior space. Featuring small slits with windows illuminating the interior with natural lighting, or LED's when the sun begins to set, the complex design unfortunately offers little to no room for further deck expansion on its top.

The long interior space though offers a wide range of amenities including a circular bar, several lounge pads, and two beds. With such a massive space, there are only two decks, or three if you count a small section towards the back of the boat. The lower deck includes open spaces for hosting large gatherings or parties which appears to be the main intent behind the design. There is also a spa on board, featuring two large glass windows and two raised beds.

Self Charging Feature

The Model Y yacht is known for its self sustaining capabilities. Atop the ship is a large solar panel that charges two lithium batteries powered to run the vessel. With the enhancement of the electric yacht, it sails in silence, with no noise when starting up or when staying afloat. The yachts turbine is also unique. A red device adorned with the iconic Tesla logo sits in the middle of the boat. This turbine works by taking in any incoming waves and movements and transforms them into energy which is then circulated through an electrical current that powers the yacht while simultaneously charging the battery. The battery system then returns the newly captured electricity, which in return powers the turbines, working in the same cyclical manner as many Tesla electric vehicles.

Utilizing Space

While much of the upper deck is lost due to the ships large interior spaces, there are two smaller additional decks that make up the surface of the boat. Tesla has also taken advantage of the spaces by creating a unique set of modular furniture. The tables on the lower deck don't feature any chairs. Instead, with a remote control, the tables turn in a circular motion that opens them up into seats. There is also a surprising feature located on the upper deck. There are two L-shaped benches that can lower or raise to accommodate different guests and their preferred settings. The barstools themselves function in a similar dynamic, where with the simple click of a button, they transform themselves into a full set of seats.

Future Plans and Release Date

Having recently launched one of their roadsters into space, it was only a matter of time before Tesla decided to tackle the ocean as well. Having mastered almost all of the Earth's spheres, it's only a matter of time before Musk and his company venture into the jet propulsion territory as well, something he's hinted at before during his recent interview on the Joe Rogan Experience. Having first launched the car company in 2008, Tesla’s market cap is now close to $663.85 billion, equal to that of the nine largest car companies in the world – combined. With this amount of success within a 13 year stretch, it's only a matter of time before the Tesla yacht also becomes the new standard within the luxury sailing industry.
