Who would’ve guessed that our childhood memories could be worth a fortune? Apparently, they are! During the 90’s, Disney reinvented themselves with the “Disney Renaissance,” which was a collection of animated films from 1989-1990 produced by Walt Disney Studios that were a critical and financial success.

After a string of box-office failures, movies like The Little Mermaid and The Lion King made Disney a profitable company again and a favorite at the box-office. Some of these beloved classics are available on eBay in the VHS format, but for prices unimaginable! Here are the top 10 most expensive Disney VHS ever sold on eBay!

Alice In Wonderland Pre-Owned Black Diamond 1998 VHS - $299

In 1951, Disney released this timeless classic much to pleasure of children and adults alike. Alice in Wonderland was the 13th release from Disney Studios and even though it initially flopped when it premiered in theaters, the film went on to develop a cult-following due to it's popularity on television. The movie was eventually re-released to much more positive reception and was also remade in a live-action version, featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice. The 1998 Black Diamond Edition on VHS is available on Amazon for $299, which can seem a little pricey, but given this film's history; it's not surprising.

Aladdin Black Diamond Collector's Edition - $650

Robin Williams will always be best-known for his comical and versatile voice-acting skills as Genie, in the 1992 version of the Disney classic, Aladdin. The animated film, which was also apart of the Disney Renaissance, followed the journey of the titular character, who wants to leave his days as a "street-rat" behind in order to pursue the beautiful princess, Jasmine. The film went on to become the highest-grossing film in 1992 and spawned two sequels, a television show, a Broadway, and most recently, a live-action film, starring Will Smith. The Black Diamond VHS edition is still available on eBay for $650 with original cover and Walt Disney seal mark on the inside.

The Fox And The Hound 1994 VHS Black Diamond - $900

In 1981, Disney introduced the world to an undying friendship between two different species. The Fox and the Hound follows the story of a fox, Todd, and a hound-dog, Copper, who are supposed to be mortal enemies, given their nature but form an unusual bond that stands the test of time.

The movie was a rare success given Disney's luck at the time with certain animated films. The Fox and the Hound was re-released in theaters in 1988 and also produced a direct-to-video sequel, but the 1994 VHS edition of the film is truly the prize and is still being bided on to this day.

Dumbo Black Diamond - $1,499

Not only was Dumbo another treasure created by Disney, it is also one of the shortest movies ever made, spanning over 64 minutes. The heart-warming tale about an elephant who is severely mistreated because his ears was too big, was released in theaters in 1941. Dumbo has since become another cult-classic and was recently re-told by Tim Burton in a live-action remake. This collection of VHS' are each significant in their own way, but if one were looking to own not only Dumbo and The Little Mermaid, they could purchase the Disney lot which is priced at $2,500 on eBay.

Within this collection are other classic films such as: The Jungle Book, The Rescuers: Down Under, 101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tramp. Each movie was released during a different time period, but are very valuable given their condition and that they are the original copies.

The Great Mouse Detective Rare Black Diamond VHS - $2,525.25

Long before the Disney Renaissance took place, there were a few successful animated films that help shape Disney's success in the box-office and among audiences. One of those films was, The Great Mouse Detective. This movie was released in 1986 and was compared to Disney's Golden Age. Heavily based on popular detective, Sherlock Holmes, and the book Basil of Baker Street, The Great Mouse Detective follows the adventures of famous detective, Basil, who helps a young girl, Olivia, find her missing toy-maker father along with the help of Dr. David Q. The Little Mermaid Black Diamond With Banned Cover - $3,500

Credited for being the first animated film that was the start of the Disney's Renissance, The Little Mermaid was not only a success commercially and critically; but it also restored fans' faith in Disney to be able to create breath-taking animated movies that will leave an lasting mark. Beauty and Beast follows the tale of a smart, courageous woman who warms the heart of a Beast, cursed because of his vanity and selfishness. The movie was a box-office success and received numerous accolades, including Best Original Song and Best Original Score at the Academy Awards. Priced at $15,000 on eBay, the Black Diamond VHS is the 1992 original copy that was released after the movie's theater run which would make it pretty valuable.
