Roman Abramovich to buy a $75 Million Home in NYC

Chelsea Football Club owner and Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is reported to be buying a mansion on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue Gold Coast.

Abramovich, together with girlfriend Dasha Zhukova is purchasing the mansion for $75 million, which will be the highest price ever paid for a co-op in NYC. The most expensive purchase currently belongs to David Geffen’s $54 million buy last year at 785 Fifth Avenue.

828 Fifth Avenue is a French Renaissance-style apartment built in 1886 in Lenox Hill Manhattan and was once described by architectural historian John Taurananc as "about as close to Versailles as residential New York has to offer." It was originally built for coal tycoon Joseph Berwind.

The home was put on the market for $72 million in May 2012 but was taken down in January this year and has not appeared on public listing. It has a total of 22 rooms, eight plush bedrooms, 10 ½ bathrooms, gym, library, grand ballroom, reception rotunda and rooftop terrace.

The purchase will be added to Abramovich’s other luxurious properties such as his mansion in London, luxury home in St. Barths and the world’s largest yacht Eclipse he bought for $250 million.

Roman and Dasha have two children who are both U.S. Citizens. Their elder child is Aaron Alexander who was born in Los Angeles and they just welcomed their second baby Leah Lou who was born in New York in April. Abramovich has five other children from his previous marriage.

The Russian billionaire is spending $500,000 a week and almost $2 million a month. He also spends millions by travelling to New York by boat.
