There are a few fleeting moments in life where we spend so much money that it almost physically hurts. Purchases that are necessary for us to get by, but they significantly punch us in the bank account nevertheless. Buying a house is one of them, something we will hopefully only ever have to do once in our lifetime.

A decent car is probably number two on the list. Yes, you can go through life buying cheaper cars and hoping they last longer than a few months, but like anything, it's probably for the best to just bite the bullet and fork out for one that will last years. Bugatti's La Voiture Noire. The French speakers among you will know that literally translates to "the black car." How imaginative. The one of a kind hypercar was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show reports The Guardian, and it is quite something. Don't make any plans to pay it a visit, though. The incredible car already has an owner, and it cost them an awful lot of money to make it theirs.

€11 million to be exact, which is a little less than $12.5 million. That staggeringly large price tag apparently makes La Voiture Noire the most expensive car in the world. It has beaten the previous record by quite some way as well. The Rolls Royce Sweptail cost a little more than $9 million to make. Bugatti now stands tall atop that mountain thanks to La Voiture Noire's unnamed buyer.

La Voiture Noire is actually an ode to the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic. Only four were ever made, all during the 1930s, and fashion designer Ralph Lauren owns one of them. It might seem expensive and unnecessary to produce one of a kind cars such as these, but it can be pretty profitable for car companies. Not only will someone be willing to pay through the nose for the right to call it their own, but it is also a great marketing tool. Here we are writing about it after all.
