Most of us have cars already, that we use to transport ourselves between home and work and for other obvious purposes as well. Whether it’s a pickup truck for hauling equipment, an SUV for taking the kids to soccer practice, a commuter sedan for saving on gas, or an old sports car that we keep nice in the garage, we all choose cars based on specific needs.
But it's no secret that we all have that one dream car we've always wanted. It’s not a car that we would need like a sedan or an SUV, but a fast car to drive through the countryside to expensive places and to show off to friends. No doubt, a lot of people’s dream car is a car with a lot of horsepower and high speeds. We are going to look at ten of those cars on this list. These are the cars at the very upper end of the market and worth hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars. Some brands are instantly recognizable, like Chevrolet or Ford, while others aren't as well known.
No doubt, the ten cars featured on this list will become outdated in comparison to a new line of models within a few years, just as these cars replaced the most powerful cars from just a few years ago. All of the car manufacturers are in direct competition with one another, to attempt to put the most powerful car on the market. It’s so close between the top cars, that it’s hard to know which one really is the most powerful. The cars considered on this list are ones that have been mass produced and that are, at least for the most part, available for sale in the world.
10 Mercedes-Benz SL63
There are a lot of different models of Mercedes-Benz that could have been brought up on this list, but for now, we’ll go with the SL63 model. Sporting a powerful V8 engine, the Mercedes-Benz SL63 clocks in at just over five hundred and sixty horsepower, and over six hundred and sixty feet per pounds of torque. This car comes standard with a seven-speed manual transmission and a 5.5-liter engine. As a high end car, you won’t find a new SL63 for sale for any less than $156,000. As an added feature, the SL63 is also capable of driving quite nicely on normal roads if you don’t want to go particularly fast, but you’ll definitely be tempted to drive this vehicle’s top speed!
9 McLaren MP4-12C
A two door coupe worth over $240,000, the McLaren MP4-12C has an 8-cylinder engine that doesn't exactly get the best gas mileage on the road, but should certainly give you all the speed you would want! The MP4-12C averages only fifteen miles per gallon on the city and twenty-two on the highway, and comes equipped with an automatic transmission as standard.
8 Porsche Panamera Turbo S
Germany is universally renowned for making some of the most innovative cars of all time. They have turned out many sporty cars over the years that have gained immense popularity in the United States, but you’ll definitely be surprised to hear that Porsche’s only car on this list, is actually a four dour sedan. With over 580 horsepower, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S is one of the most powerful sedans currently available on the market, and also comes in all-wheel drive. The Panamera Turbo S has over five hundred and ninety feet per pounds of torque and a seven-speed manual transmission. But as you may have guessed, this most likely isn't going to be the sedan you commute between home and work every day, as the lowest pricing on the Panamera Turbo S is $180,000.
7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL-1
Chevrolet has called the Camaro ZL-1 to be the most powerful Camaro that they have built to date. The ZL-1 has five hundred and eighty horsepower and five hundred and sixty feet per pounds of torque, from a V8 engine. The standard transmission on the ZL-1 is a six-speed manual, but Chevrolet has also produced a number of versions of the ZL-1 that come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. If you've always thought of Camaro as being a step down from a Corvette, you’ll definitely want to reconsider that opinion after taking a look at the Camaro ZL-1.
6 Ferrari 458 Italia Speciale
You may have guessed beforehand that a Ferrari would be on this list, and if you did, you guessed right. The Continental GTC comes in a wide variety of different configurations, but the lowest price that you will find for any configuration is $220,000. The Continental GTC comes standard with an automatic transmission and gets an average of twelve miles per gallon in the city, and twenty on the highway.
4 Ford Shelby GT500
The Ford Shelby GT500 is the highest end of Mustang that you will ever find. 3 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
All in all, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is without a doubt, the most powerful V8 mass produced vehicle currently up for sale. The Challenger SRT Hellcat has an eight-speed automatic transmission that comes standard with the vehicle, with most of the power for the vehicle coming from the rear wheels. The Challenger SRT Hellcat is also incredibly fast, clocking at only 11.2 seconds going one hundred and twenty-five miles per hour, at one fourth of a mile. Most cars designed specifically for racing have to clock in at ten seconds at that distance, so the Challenger SRT Hellcat comes very close. All in all, this car is one of the most innovative and groundbreaking cars to come from Dodge in a long time.
2 Nissan GT-R AMS Alpha 12

1 Lamborghini Aventador LP1600-4
The most powerful car we have on this list is the Lamborghini Aventador LP1600-4.
