Netflix launched its first original series, House of Cards, in 2013. The streaming giant quickly began creating a library of original content, including their own produced or co-produced shows, exclusive rights to a program they’ve purchased, or a continuation of a previously canceled show from cable.
Examples of original content include Orange Is the New Black, Stranger Things, and The Crown.
In the process, Netflix has created or bought several series that gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous. The reality shows go into celebrities’ homes, give fans a picture of the day-to-day lives of their favorite couples and even walk viewers through interior decorating, cooking, or fashion tips.

Selling Sunset
Real estate shows have gained popularity over the years, but Selling Sunset features a group of mainly female real estate agents as the agents work to sell a variety of L.A. properties, showing viewers the luxury homes available for those with million-dollar budgets. According to ScreenRant, top-notch pools, gyms, theaters, and more are featured in ultra-luxurious homes.
Bling Empire
Recently launched in Jan. 2021, the show follows Los Angeles' wealthy Asian Americans going to parties, jet-setting travel, and the drama that seems to go along with some luxurious lifestyles. Fans can view inside the homes of the main characters the lavish amenities at a Paris birthday party and benefits or not-so beneficial outcomes to Botox.
Get Organized with The Home Edit
Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin are founders of The Home Edit company. The pair take on celebrity clients like Reese Witherspoon, Khloe Kardashian, Neil Patrick Harris, and more to help the rich and famous declutter and reorganize. Not only do fans like to see celebrities with clutter just like us, but we also pick up on tips to fix that overflowing closet we’ve been dreading.
Styling Hollywood
According to Vogue, the show is like a fashion show on the red carpet with celebrity stylist Jason Bolden and husband, interior designer Adair Curtis showing each step along the way. They dress the likes of Ava DuVernay and Serena Williams with the best fashion they can buy, work through hair, makeup and accessories and finalize a celebrity look before their big debut.
Celebrity Plastic Surgeons of Beverly Hills
Yet another subject fans have come to examine and discuss… who has had plastic surgery and who is au natural? Cosmetic surgery is a huge part of the rich culture, and surgeons Dr. Robert Rey and Dr. Jason Diamond work with other experts about the lives of people who make celebrities look perfect. The show looks at facelifts to life-changing operations and what these doctors encounter on a daily basis.
Cooking with Paris
Another 2021 reality show launch features Paris Hilton, a reality star, and her love for creating and bonding in the kitchen. Each episode, according to Netflix, features a different celebrity, and fans learn just how easy (or not) it is to create new dishes in the kitchen as they catch up with their favorite stars. Not every dish comes out perfect, but it’s the friendships formed and the experience that makes it worth the watch.
Real Housewives
The housewife franchise has gained enormous popularity with locations across the country, including Atlanta, Beverly Hills, and New York City. It’s the drama that keeps fans coming back: big personalities, fights, drama galore, but viewers do get to see inside the lives of women that don’t have much to do but get together and gossip, or so it seems.
Indian Matchmaking
According to Esquire, matchmaking in India is all about a powerful Rolodex of clients and a long list of singles in India and the United States. Matchmaker Sima Taparia delves into each client’s personal preferences, backgrounds, and social lives, but it doesn’t always turn out sunshine and roses. Some terrible dates, no-shows, family drama, and more will keep audiences interested and pulling for the young hopefuls.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians
Netflix is currently streaming the famous reality show featuring Kim Kardashian West and her entire family. Some are fans, and others are just in shock, but viewers get to see the impact the family has had on pop culture, fashion, and beauty. Follow relationships, business ventures, and family drama throughout 20 seasons of the show that is also responsible for launching several spin-offs. The show has officially come to an end, but that doesn’t stop us from watching reruns of Kendall and Kylie’s literal launch from childhood to million-dollar stars.
