Neverland Ranch
Travel to Santa Barbara County in California and you will find Neverland Ranch. This once owned amusement park and house by Michael Jackson is equipped with a fifty-seat movie theater, dance studio, fire station, a Disney-themed railroad station, and train. With a staggering 2,700 acres and so much to offer, Neverland Ranch has struggled to find an owner due to the property's controversial history.
Rebranded as Sycamore Valley Ranch and priced at $31 million dollars, cut from its original $100 million asking price, it sat for 5 years without even a spark of interest before its listing was removed, as reported by YouTube. In 2020, TheRichest reported that it was finally bought as a land banking opportunity.
Granot Loma
Nestled on the windy shores of Lake Superior you will find Granot Loma, the world's largest log cabin. This spacious abode is anything but humble at a whopping 26,000 square feet. Inside the cabin, you will find a staggering 26 bedrooms and comes with a bungalow-style apartment. Originally listed at 40 million dollars, the price has significantly dropped and interest has been non-existent, according to YouTube.
The reason for this luxury mansion getting no bites is for its historically outdated interior where you will find wall-to-wall taxidermy, it has been estimated that it would take millions to redo. Also, the remote location of Granot Loma is not appealing to many with the nearest city a 200-mile drive.
Updown Court
Go across the pond and you will find Updown Court, the most expensive home on the real estate market in the United Kingdom listed at $138 million. Updown Court is even larger in size than Buckingham Palace, at a whopping 50,000 square feet. Sitting on 58 acres of land and equipped with 103 separate rooms, a wine cellar, home theater, sauna, a gym, and even a panic room, this luxury mansion is one that no one wants to buy due to its enormous size and cost.
According to the Daily Mail, this Britain mega-mansions owner, Allen-Vercoe, defaulted on his £50 million mortgages back in 2011. The mansion is on the market with little to no nibbles.
Aubrey Lewis House
Head over to New Jersey and you will be able to purchase this 4,000-square-foot Victorian mansion for a measly $10. Or, you would have been able to purchase this home so cheap, as it has been demolished due to its lack of interest.
Although it is gone, this mansion makes the list due to its unusual story. The one big catch of purchasing this cheap home: it had to be relocated a quarter-mile away, expenses paid to lift the home by the owner. The NY Post reported that the city lost a piece of history when the Aubrey Lewis House got demolished. Aubrey Lewis was the first African American to work for the FBI and became a top executive at a Fortune 100 company. He and his wife raised their five children in the once historical home.
Ollolai
Travel to Italy to the town of Ollolai and you can buy your very own house for just one euro, which is about $1.20. With such a stellar deal, you'd imagine that these Mediterranean-style houses would be swept up in a flash. However, when something sounds too good to be true, it most likely always is.
One very crucial aspect of these homes is that they are in terribly poor condition and buyers must commit to a refurbishment within three years, which will likely cost about $25,000. This is in hopes to rejuvenate the community as it is becoming a ghost town. Ollolai's population has shrunk from 2,250 to 1,300, according to CNN Travel.
Historic Home No. 54 "Queen Anne"
Located in San Francisco in the town of Hercules is where you can buy this home for just $1. Dubbed Queen Anne for its victorian style, the owner of this once-beautiful home was cut in half by the city in order to move the structure to the city’s corporation yard, where it currently sits alongside maintenance equipment and trucks, according to Realtor.
Although this house is on the market for just 100 pennies, the outrageously low price has not been able to draw a buyer in because it needs so much work. As reported by Realtor, the Historic Home No. 54 needs a new roof, windows, electrical, paint, and plaster, along with graffiti removal. It has the bones though to be a real luxury home, with two floors, four bedrooms, one bathroom, two-sided fireplace, stair railings, high ceilings, and both front and back porches.
