Brad Pitt has owned his Los Feliz mansion longer than both of his marriages, but he’s finally looking to sell the property. According to reports, the actor quietly listed the estate for a whopping $40 million earlier this month.

The Babylon star originally purchased the property in 1994 from Elvira alum Cassandra Peterson. He spent $1.7 million at the time.

Brad made a variety of upgrades to the property in his nearly 30 years of ownership. The actor bought several neighbouring properties to expand the estate, which now host a variety of outdoor amenities, including a swimming pool, tennis court, and skating rink.

In total, the estate boasts nearly 2 acres of land and over 6,690 square feet of living space.

Speaking to PEOPLE, a source said that Brad’s reason for selling is simple – he wants to downsize. “[He’s] looking for something smaller,” the insider explained, adding he wants a property in the Los Angeles area.

The Los Feliz property was reportedly the full-time home for Brad and his then-wife Angelina Jolie while they were raising their six kids.

The pair split after Angelina filed for divorce in 2016 following a dispute on a private plane. However, their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2019. To this day, the exes continue to fight over custody as well as the division of their assets (primarily the French winery they previously owned shares of together).

Brad may be saying good-bye to one of his most luxurious homes, but he still has several other properties to his name.

Just last year, the Inglorious Bastards alum put down $40 million on a property in Carmel Highlands. The ocean view estate was originally built in 1997 but has gone through a series of upgrades over the years.

Brad has never been shy about his love for architecture and design. Not only did he do an exclusive collaboration with furniture designer Frank Pollaro in 2012, but he more recently lent his voice to a 2020 documentary about Frank Lloyd Wright’s life and accomplishments.

"I love that architecture is this huge art piece you can be inside," Brad once said during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. "I believe it lifts your soul and affects your mindset."

With a passion for all things home design, Brad’s next home is likely to be stunning, regardless of where he decides to put down roots.
