Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan, 39, was arrested on Saturday at 1:01 a.m. and booked on three charges, strangulation, fourth-degree assault and interfering with making a report, according to Lane County Jail records. The former child star is being held in custody at Lane County Jail in Eugene, Oregon.
A spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department told ET, "On Oct. 16 at approximately 10:24 p.m., Eugene Police officers were dispatched to report of a physical dispute at a north Eugene home after neighbors called." When they arrived, the officers found Bryan "sitting outside an apartment. The victim, age 27, was at a neighboring apartment."
Investigators determined that during the altercation, Bryan assaulted the victim, strangled her and took her phone when she tried to call the police. The victim, who has been identified as Bryan’s girlfriend, declined medical attention. Meanwhile, the actor was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lane County Jail.
Bryan, known for playing Tim Allen's eldest son Brad on Home Improvement, which aired on ABC from 1991 to 1999, has also appeared in True Heart (1999) and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006). In 2007, he married Carly Matros, whom he met in high school. The couple share four young children — Taylor, Gemma, Jordana and Pierce. They had reportedly split up a couple of weeks before Saturday’s arrest.
Last year, in an interview with Fox News, Bryan spoke about being a conservative in Hollywood and blasted “elitist” actors for blacklisting Donald Trump supporters. “There’s a lot more conservatives in Hollywood than anyone thinks,” he said. “I’ve been in this business 30 years … I get messages all the time saying, ‘Keep up the good fight.'”
Bryan last appeared on television in 2009 when he starred in the Syfy channel film Thor: Hammer of the Gods, which was poorly received by critics. Soon after, the actor reportedly quit acting because "he had gotten tired of being in the industry."
