Portuguese social media influencers Raquel and Miguel are under fire for posting posed pictures of themselves hanging from a moving train.
Amid the emergence of new industries and robots/artificial intelligence taking up the brunt of the work in old ones, there are some jobs out there that often sound downright made up. The title "social media influencer" is one of those. People who post on Twitter and Instagram in order to promote certain items and events and often make a boatload of money doing it.
If you have watched Fyre on Netflix, a documentary about the failed festival of the same name, then you'll know exactly how influential social media influencers can be. Their posts about the festival is one of the reasons word of it spread so fast. They're not just promoting disastrous festivals though, and a couple in Portugal has been slammed recently for some of their posts.
Raquel and Miguel are travel bloggers. Popular ones too. Their Instagram account is closing in on 250,000 followers. While most of the posts are of them relaxing in paradisical looking places, some different snaps from the pair have resulted in them receiving some backlash, as reported by Metro. While the couple was exploring Sri Lanka, they took a picturesque train ride.

We are all on a long journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy 🙌🚂 For where are you now 🏠 and where you will go ✈️, for “I’ve always known” 🙋♂ and “I told you so” 🙄, for “nothing is happening” 🤷♀ and “all has gone wrong” 😭 just go out there 🍃 and don’t wait too long ⌛... No matter what happens, make sure you always enjoy this wonderful ride called life ♥️ When was the last time you went on a trip and wher did you go? ✄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄ #travellingourplanet #wondeful_places #bestvacations #living_destinations #travelcouple #togetherforever #coupleshoot #srilanka #srilankatrip #wanderlove
Innocent enough so far. However, while on the train, Raquel and Miguel posed for some rather dangerous looking photos. As you can see from the one above, Raquel hangs from the moving train while Miguel kisses her on the forehead. The influencers have assured critics that the train was moving slowly, but those who have taken issue with the snaps say that's beside the point. They are influencers and may influence others to copy them, perhaps not aboard trains that are moving at a snail's pace.
We're not sure about you, but the thing that makes us the most uncomfortable about the above picture, in particular, is the fact that it is taking place on a bridge. If Raquel were to lose her grip not only would she fall from the train, but she would probably fall off of what looks like an incredibly high bridge. Apparently, that is a risk worth taking when thousands of likes are on the line.
