The future of farming has changed right before our eyes! Behold, the first ever, self-driving tractor. Autonomous machines have become more and more common, however, we’ve yet to see a self-driving tractor, until now.

The remote-controlled Valtra H202 tractor is said to be the future of farming for many reasons. The hydrogen-powered machine, which is controlled by a mobile app, is the first of its kind to plow the world’s farmlands. Designed by Italian mastermind, Lorenzo Mariotti, the tractor is said to be charged on site with plugs or wireless inductive charging, all while producing hydrogen-using methane from the farm.

In addition, the autonomous tractor will be able to do more than a human could on their best day, as it repeats complex and repetitive tasks around the clock! The first images have finally surfaced, and we are impressed to say the least. The futuristic farm vehicle is seen driving across a field with its fuel cell producing electricity from hydrogen. According to DailyMail, the design was “an evolution of the archetypal form of the tractor, making it immediately recognizable.”

The H202 also includes various technologies that include Laser and Oled lights, advanced active safety and remote management that allows the machine to be controlled via its mobile app. Although the tractor is, in fact, autonomous, creator Mariotti, wanted the machine to be driven by a farmer occasionally as “humans are very good at finding a creative solution to an unexpected situation.”

As good as AI and robots may be, they’re not taking over just yet! As for this self-driving tractor, it’s ability to be autonomous and farmer-run allows for optimal productivity that allows for the job to get done at a faster rate. Farmers shouldn’t be too worried, however, considering the H202 is expected to only complete tasks at night, while the farmers undergo the work during the day.

This allows for fields worldwide to continue to be worked on overnight. The tractor's ability to work on its own, all while still being combined with human capabilities, is a step in an incredible direction for the farming world! Now, when you’re enjoying your fruits and veggies, you can wonder if a farmer or the H202 picked them!
