This Stretch Can Help With Back Pain Caused By Sitting All Day

If you're suffering from back pain brought about by having to sit all day this stretch might very well be the answer to all your prayers.

Whether we want to admit it or not, many of us start to feel old long before we expected to. In our late teens and early 20s the world is our oyster and anything feels possible, then just a few years later it feels as if those good times happened a lifetime ago. It can be a little depressing but there are a number of ways you can roll back the years.

Back pain is one of those elements we thought as kids wasn't a problem for anyone under the age of 60. On the contrary, in the present day back problems are likely more common than they ever have been before. That's because more and more of us are working jobs where we are sat at a desk all day. That's doing our backs no good at all.


If the above sounds like you, we may have a solution. Men's Health recently posted a video of an elevated pigeon stretch. The stretch should help with back pain and we're going to run you through exactly how to perform it. Some of you may already be familiar with the pigeon stretch as a yoga pose. The elevated version is obviously slightly different.

First of all, find an object that comes up to about waist height that you can rest your leg on. A box or perhaps even your bed. Then rest your leg on it at a 90-degree angle, as you can see in the above video. Once you're in that position, simply start moving slowly from side to side. Do that for around 30 seconds, then rotate so that you are stretching your upper back, but not your lower back, and again do it both to the left and the right.

Do the above for two to five minutes on each side and that's it, as simple as that. If you can remember to do it every day then you should really start to feel the difference. Back pain is suffering a great many of us suffer from, regardless of age, so there's no need to feel ashamed or as if you're getting old before your time. However, there are ways to eliminate it, and the pigeon stretch should really help you reach that goal.
