The Olympics is a time for the best of the best to represent their country with pride and humility. It's a time to rejoice and celebrate in the astounding achievements of mind-blowing mental toughness and incredible athletic abilities. The Olympics is a country's chance to showcase their national pride and identity.

Unfortunately, the best of the best athletes are not necessarily as gifted in the art of humility and graciousness as they are athletically. Over the years, there have been some real entitled, spoiled, ungracious Olympians, and here we will be exposing 10 of them.

It would be unfair to leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, though, so we will also be revealing 10 Olympians with hearts of pure gold! It goes to show that not every Olympian believes himself/herself to be a god. There are some athletically-gifted individuals out there that retain the humility they had at the very start of their promising athletic careers, and they are gracious and kind.

May the thousands of athletes who competed at the Winter Olympic games in PyeongChang bring home and continue to carry the spirit of the Olympic games.

Lindsey Vonn - Olympic Brat

You can't talk about spoiled Olympic brats without Lindsey Vonn's name popping up. Lindsey said during an interview that she didn't want to participate in the Nordic skiing team event because she didn't believe they had a chance to win a medal. That must have been a slap to her teammates' faces! Can you imagine making it on an Olympic team and then having the best player on that team say that you didn't stand a chance?!

There is only one type of person who would say something like that—an entitled, arrogant, spoiled brat. In this case, Lindsey Vonn. Show some class and learn to be gracious, Lindsey. Stomping off with your entourage when you don't perform your best and not cheering for other competitors is just poor sportsmanship.

McKayla Maroney - Olympic Brat

McKayla Maroney's face went around the world at the 2012 Summer Olympic games where she placed 2nd in the women's vault event. She earned a silver medal that, when placed around her neck, you would have thought that the medal was made out of dog poo! Her famous facial expression became known to the world as "unimpressed."

She couldn't just be gracious with winning silver at the Olympics! She had to make a face and scowl. McKayla hopefully learned a lesson, though, as she was immediately called out on her "unimpressed" face with many celebrities and fans mocking her facial expression. It clogged up social media feeds for weeks. Even former President Barack Obama got in on it, posing with McKayla and pulling her infamous face.

Dawn Fraser - Olympic Brat

Dawn Fraser, a five-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming, decided to disrespect the host country of Japan and steal the emperor of Tokyo's Olympic flag. She also basically stuck her middle finger up at her sponsors by refusing to wear the swimsuit they specifically designed for her to wear at the Olympic games. She remarked that she was too uncomfortable in it and wore an old suit she had brought from home.

Dawn's entitlement attitude and immature antics did not sit well with the Olympic committee so after the games, she was banned from competitive swimming for a period of 10 years. This essentially ended her swimming career.

Did Dawn learn her lesson? One would think but no she did not. She became loud and obnoxious, giving commentary and interviews about swimming and the Olympics. Her controversial remarks have raised quite a few eyebrows.

Ryan Lochte - Olympic Brat

Ryan Lochte is a 12-time Olympic medalist. In 2016, Ryan got into some hot water while at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He falsely claimed that he had been robbed at gunpoint with several other competitors. But, his story soon fell apart, and it came to light that he made it all up. It's not completely clear what transpired but it was definitely not a robbery nor were they forced out of a taxi cab at gunpoint, as Ryan had claimed.

Ryan was suspended from swimming for a period of 10 months. But, much worse than that, his All-American poster boy image was tarnished. Ryan and his teammates were subjected to media scrutiny and branded spoiled American brats by the foreign press. The U.S. Olympic committee was disappointed and infuriated at the Olympian's behavior. Given the circumstances and that the incident occurred in a foreign country, Ryan should be kissing the ground for being allowed to return home and basically getting a light slap on the wrist.

The incident has become referred to as "Lochtegate."

Yuri Van Gelder - Olympic Brat

Dutch gymnast Yuri van Gelder decided to disregard Olympic team rules while at the Summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro. He was already on the 'watch list' of sorts for previous bad behavior, namely coke. But, he just didn't seem to care about his country, team, nor anyone really other than himself.

He decided to go out of the safe zone that the athletes were allowed in and venture out into Rio. While in Rio, he got extremely intoxicated and returned to the Olympic village in the early hours of the morning. The Dutch gymnastics officials were unhappy, to say the very least.

The officials stuck by the rule book, and even though he likely would have won them a medal, they sent him packing. He was not allowed to compete. His selfish behavior got him a coach class ticket home.

Hope Solo - Olympic Brat

Hope Solo thinks she's special. She believes she's so special, in fact, that she can say or do whatever she wants. The most recent event was at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The U.S. Women's Soccer team lost to Sweden. Hope was furious and called Sweden "cowards." She received a six-month suspension for her poor attitude and snide remarks from the U.S. Soccer federation.

But, that is not the worst of Hope's behavior. She was also arrested for hurling profanity and taunting police officers, bragging of her wealth. And, she has been arrested for domestic violence against her husband, as well as her stepsister and nephew. The list of her offenses is long, and it definitely makes you wonder how someone with so much going for her could be so spoiled rotten.

Arash Miresmaeili - Olympic Brat

At the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, Arash Miresmaeili, a Judoku fighter from Iran, was upset that he had to fight someone from Israel. So, in a ridiculous move, he sacrificed his chance at competing by intentionally throwing the match. How did he do it? Well, he scarfed down a bunch of food the night before the official weigh-ins, knowing full well that if he was over a certain weight, he would be disqualified from competing.

Judo officials immediately knew something fishy was going on when he weighed four pounds over the permissible weight. That was not a mistake a fighter of his caliber would make.

Instead of having his country or fans angry with his intentional disqualification, he found glory! His team called him the "true hero of the 2004 Olympic Games." They even awarded him over $100,000 for committing such a brave, selfless act.

1998 U.S. Men's Hockey Team - Olympic Brat(s)

The 1998 U.S. Men's Hockey Team might be pretty good on the ice but they were the embodiment of boys behaving badly during the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. When they were defeated by the Czech hockey team, many on the team became very angry.

Players expressed their anger outwardly by calling the Olympics "the biggest waste of time ever" and also took to destroying their rooms in the Olympic village. At about 4:00 in the morning, before the team left to return home, they smashed furniture, sprayed fire extinguishers in their rooms, and threw the canisters onto the cement several floors down. Thousands of dollars worth of damage, embarrassment to their country, and a reputation for being "entitled Americans."

Nicolas Batum - Olympic Brat

At the 2012 Olympic games, senior men's basketball player representing France, Portland Trailblazers forward Nicolas Batum, became upset that they were losing their match. He punched Spanish player Juan Carlos Navarro directly in the groin!

To intentionally throw a punch like that is a dirty foul. There's no excuse for that type of behavior, let alone doing that on a world stage like the Olympic games! All the world is watching you represent your country and you purposely seek to cause someone pain because they are performing better than you.

Afterwards, he did seem to regret his actions but it seems too little, too late. He showed his true colors, and unfortunately, it wasn't very pretty.

Angel Matos - Olympic Brat

At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Angel Matos was a Cuban Taekwondo competitor. Angel was in the middle of a match when he incurred an injury to his foot. He took a time out for medical purposes but he went over the permissible time allowed for medical timeouts and was disqualified from the event.

Angel was very furious and ended up snapping at the referee. He got into a heated yelling match before getting physical and kicking the referee in the face.

Amanda Bird - Heart Of Gold

U.S. bobsledder/skeleton athlete arrived at the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia with a gold medal already around her neck (well not literally), but she definitely had a golden halo around her head to the dog she was planning on rescuing from the exterminators.

Prior the Olympic games, the Russian government rushed to round up and exterminate thousands of stray dogs that were roaming around the Olympic village and stadiums. They wanted to present a pristine image and stray dogs were getting in the way of their vision.

Thankfully, athletes like Amanda Bird heard about the Russian government's extermination plans and arranged to adopt a senior dog, the least desirable of them all, and bring him home to live a dog's dream life. Her mission inspired many other American Olympians to follow in her footsteps and also adopt stray dogs to bring back home to America.

Gus Hensworthy - Heart Of Gold

British-born American skier Gus Hensworthy is not only an incredible athlete, but he is also incredibly good-looking and possesses a huge heart. Gus was at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi as a freestyle skier. While at the hill training one day, he found a litter of puppies. He just couldn't leave them there so he picked them up and brought them back with him to the Olympic village.

Sadly, one of the pups died, but the other three he was able to purchase spots on the plane home with him. He adopted all three of them. He is very active on social media, and the majority of Gus' pictures have at least one of his beautiful now-grownup pups in them!

Gus won the hearts of dog lovers around the world with his selfless and compassionate action.

Abbey D'agostino And Nikki Hamblin - Heart Of Gold

American runner Abbey D'Agostino and New Zealand's Nikki Hamblin might not have won a medal at the Olympic games but they walked away with something far more special. They demonstrated the absolute essence of the Olympic games: "the spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play."

When runners Abbey D'Agostino and Nikki Hamblin got their legs entangled during a qualifying run, the preliminary heat of the 2nd qualifying round, they both fell to the ground. Instead of running ahead, Abbey stuck by Nikki's side and helped her to her feet. Then, when Abbey tripped and fell to the ground, Nikki stayed by her side to help her up. They cheered and encouraged each other to keep going.

It was an amazing race and one that left not a dry eye in the arena.

Galen Rupp - Heart Of Gold

This athlete is the very definition of compassion. He was running a qualifying race at the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro when his foot stepped on another athlete who was favored to win the race. Rupp could have easily just pushed on and widened the gap between him and the fallen athlete, but he didn't. Instead, he stopped alongside his competitor and encouraged him to get back up and keep going. He told him to stay close behind him in the race, and he would lead him back to the front of the pack.

In helping out his fellow competitor, it cost him a medal, but that didn't bother him one bit. He said he would still do the same thing again. His friends, family, and coaches have all said they were not surprised by Rupp's selfless sacrifice because that's just 'his character'.

Dotsie Bausch - Heart Of Gold

Dotsie Bausch is an Olympic silver medal cyclist whose external beauty is only matched by her internal beauty. Dotsie is an animal rights advocate and serves on the board of Compassion Champs, an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting vegan diets. Dotsie is also a motivational speaker who gives talks, encouraging women and men that are battling eating disorders. She herself is a survivor of a horrible eating disorder.

Dotsie is an incredible woman who may have won a silver medal but her heart surely wins gold in our books!

Gilmore Junio - Heart Of Gold

Is there a more selfless act than giving up one's spot on the Olympic finals event in speed skating? Eliminating any chance at glory or taking home a medal? Pretty darn incredible that someone would choose to do something like that but that's exactly what someone did! Gilmore Julio's self-sacrificing act earned him a commemorative medal but it earned him the adulation of people around the globe.

What's more incredible is the man that Gilmore gave his spot to ended up winning the silver medal in the event! Absolutely awe-inspiring.

Eugenio Monti - Heart Of Gold

Eugenio Monti was essentially the Mary Poppins of the 1964 Olympic games. Not only did he send his personal entourage of mechanics over to help another team out when he learned of a broken axel but then, when he heard about a bolt coming out of another team's bobsled, he took a bolt from his own bobsled and gave it to the team he would be competing against! This team ended up winning gold and he won bronze!

When asked about his incredibly selfless actions, Eugenio said it was no big deal, and they won fair and square. But still, what an incredible man with a huge compassionate heart.

Lawrence Lemieux - Heart Of Gold

Lawrence Lemieux was in the middle of an Olympic event in sailing when he came across a capsized boat with two young men grasping air to stay afloat next to their stricken boat. Lawrence knew that having to go off course and rescue the two men from the rough seas would cost him the race, but he also knew he wouldn't be able to forgive himself had he just left the men there to drown.

Lawrence went off-course and plucked the men from the water. He didn't come close to even garnering a medal in the race but he did win the admiration of everyone around the globe. He received many awards for his sacrifice and heroic duties.

The 1988 Jamaican Olympic Bobsled Team - Heart(s) Of Gold

If a Jamaican bobsled team in the Olympics sounds a bit like a movie you might have seen as a kid, that's because you probably did! The Disney film "Cool Runnings" was based on this incredible, captivating bobsledding team from Jamaica.

With everything stacked against them, including being from a tropical paradise playing a winter sport, they managed to compete and make it to the Olympics. They didn't want to but their debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary opened the doors for many more to do the same. In 2018, the first women's bobsled team from Jamaica made their much-anticipated debut!

Kerri Strug - Heart Of Gold

Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug suffered a sprained ankle during her first of two vaults at the Summer Olympic games. She collapsed in pain with obvious distress on her face. Her team needed her to get a high score to win gold. The pressure was on.

She incredibly was able to conquer her pain and fear, rising above it all, and complete her 2nd vault flawlessly. The execution was impeccable. She did land holding her ankle off the ground and excruciating pain was etched onto her face. Her coach, Bela Karolyi, memorably picked up his gymnast and carried her off.

Kerri tugged the heartstrings of millions. Her selfless act secured Team USA a team gold.
