Celeb marriages seem like they are doomed from the beginning because of the intense scrutiny they are under. With some couples having just announced their splits and others currently in the middle of divorce proceedings, as well as some who have been battling divorce rumors (and where there’s smoke, there’s fire!), there are many couples who will likely spend the most romantic day of the year in the least romantic way possible.
As you all know, long-time co-host of NBC’s Today show, Matt Lauer, was fired in 2017 after he was accused of harassment. Unsurprisingly, his wife left him not long after these allegations surfaced. Annette Roque has since been spotted out in public without her wedding ring on, so it would seem that a divorce is definitely in the cards for Matt in 2018.
With several more celebrity divorce announcements having recently been made, it is hard to keep up with which couples have split, which are on the brink of a breakup, and which have stayed together. Keep reading to find out which other celebrity couples are heading for Splitsville in 2018!
15 Tracy Tutor Maltas & Jason Maltas
Tracy Tutor Maltas is one of the newest additions to the reality show, Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, which airs on Bravo. She is also the first female realtor in the series. Her storyline during Season 10 was mostly about her struggle to balance her highly demanding professional life with her personal life. She has a husband of 13 years, Jason Maltas, and two daughters. It seems that this struggle took a toll on the marriage, as it was revealed at the end of the Season 10 finale that Tracy had recently filed for divorce. The couple is focusing on raising their two daughters but will not stay together. At least Tracy’s doing well professionally, as she has expanded her business to West Hollywood with her first new development.
14 Monica Potter & Daniel Christopher Allison
Monica Potter is an actress known for both her TV and movie roles. She has starred in movies such as Con Air and Patch Adams and used to appear on the show, Boston Legal. She is best known for her role as Kristina Braverman on the TV series Parenthood, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. In 2005, she married an orthopedic surgeon named Daniel Christopher Allison, with their daughter, Molly Brigid, being born soon after. Monica also has two grown sons from her previous marriage, a 27-year-old actor, Daniel, and a 23-year-old writer, Liam. They seemed like the perfect family. In February of this year, People magazine revealed that the couple was getting a divorce and many were shocked. Monica herself is said to be ‘’very sad and heartbroken’’ but the couple will focus on raising their daughter as co-parents.
13 Julie Bowen & Scott Phillips
Julie Bowen has been making us laugh since 2009 as Claire Dunphy on the hit ABC comedy, Modern Family. The critics also adore her in this role as she has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award six times, winning twice in 2011 and 2012. This is far from her first role. Bowen is a TV veteran, having appeared in major shows since 2000 such as Ed, Boston Legal, and Lost. In 2004, she married a real estate investor named Scott Phillips, who is also a software developer. The couple has three sons together. Sadly, the couple announced in February that they were splitting up after nearly 14 years of marriage. Meanwhile, everybody thought that her real marriage was as happy as her marriage on Modern Family!
12 Tricia Helfer & Jonathan Marshall
Actress, Tricia Helfer is perhaps best known for her role as the humanoid, Cylon Number Six on the TV series, Battlestar Galactica, which ran from 2004 until 2009. But don’t think this is her only memorable role, as she is currently starring on the hit TV series, Lucifer. She married lawyer Jonathan Marshall in 2003 and it seemed like a great marriage but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Tricia recently filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The Blast managed to obtain court documents, which revealed not only the aforementioned reason for their divorce but also that their official separation date, which was May 12, 2017, at least, according to Tricia. Here’s hoping the divorce doesn’t turn nasty because that would be a losing battle for Tricia, given that Jonathan is a lawyer!
11 Simone & Cecil Whitmore
Simone Whitmore is one of the main cast members of the Bravo reality TV series, Married to Medicine, which follows seven women in the medical community of Atlanta. Three of the women are doctors themselves, while the rest are married to doctors. Simone, one of the doctors, has been a main cast member since the first season aired in 2013, with her husband Cecil appearing in a recurring role. He probably won’t be appearing in future episodes because the couple is splitting up after 21 years of marriage! They met while Simone was studying at Spelman College. They have two sons together, 19-year-old Miles and 15-year-old Michael. Simone revealed the shocking news to her fellow cast members while they were filming the Season 5 reunion. She has stated that she didn’t feel loved and that it was time to move on.
10 Kevin Sussman & Alessandra Young
Actor, Kevin Sussman is best known for appearing on the long-running CBS hit comedy, The Big Bang Theory, playing the comic store owner, Stuart Bloom, since 2009. This started out as a supporting role but Kevin was promoted to a series regular during the sixth season and it doesn’t look as if he’s going anywhere. While his character is a socially awkward geek who just can’t seem to find true love, Kevin seemed to be doing much better than him, as he married Alessandra Young in 2006. He is notoriously private when it comes to his personal life so not much is known about his marriage to Alessandra. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be, as it has been discovered that they filed for divorce in October 2017. They are currently in the middle of divorce proceedings.
9 Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott
Tori Spelling is an actress of questionable talent, with one of her few major roles being that of Donna Martin on the TV soap opera, Beverly Hills, 90210, which ran from 1990 till 2000 and was produced by her father Aaron Spelling. These days she is better known for being a socialite, TV personality, and author, as well as for her extensive plastic surgery. In 2004, she married Charlie Shanian in a super-expensive ceremony that was paid for by daddy dearest but ended up cheating on Shanian in 2005 with Dean McDermott. As soon as her divorce was finalized, she married McDermott in 2006. They have five children together. Dean cheated on Tori in 2013 and been struggling financially due to bad spending. Tori also did not inherit much from her father. They’re battling divorce rumors because many believe their marriage has reached its expiration date.
8 Kim Kardashian & Kanye West
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are one of the most high-profile couples out there. One of the only few couples who may have them beat is Beyonce and Jay-Z. The couples used to hang out a lot but Kim and Beyonce never really hit it off, with Beyonce apparently disliking how Kim became famous. For anyone who’s been living under a rock, Kim’s racy film surfaced online many years ago and this led to her landing her own reality TV series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which is still running. This is Kim’s third marriage. In 2016, Kanye had a very public meltdown and they have been battling divorce rumors ever since. Although they recently welcomed their third child together, it also wouldn’t be surprising if they ended up divorcing as apparently Kim is stressed out from dealing with Kanye. Time will tell!
7 Laurence Fishburne & Gina Torres
Laurence Fishburne is probably best known for playing Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy but he is far from a one-role wonder, having an extensive movie and television career. He currently stars on Black-ish, for which he is also an executive producer. He has also had roles in both Marvel and DC movies. His first marriage was to the actress, Hajna O. Moss, with whom he has a son, Langston, and daughter, Montana. In 2002, he married actress Gina Torres, who has appeared in many television shows like Xena: Warrior Princess, Firefly, and Suits. The couple welcomed a daughter named Delilah in 2007, but sadly, they announced their separation in 2017. They had apparently been living apart for quite a while before they announced their divorce. They only decided to go public with the news because Gina was seen kissing another man.
6 Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner
Actors, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner seemed like one of those Hollywood couples that were going to last. They became friends while working together on the movies, Pearl Harbor and Daredevil, but only started going out in 2004, which was three years after meeting. They got married in 2005 and have three children together, two daughters named Violet Anne, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, and a son named Samuel. Affleck has struggled with alcoholism for most of his adult life, having checked into rehab in 2001. He remained sober for many years after that, with his marriage to Jennifer helping him due to the low-profile the couple kept. Naturally, everyone was shocked when the couple announced their split in 2015, following rumors of Affleck’s infidelity. They have yet to actually divorce but during 2017, Affleck had a relapse and started dating the television producer, Lindsay Shookus, so a divorce is likely imminent.
5 Naya Rivera & Ryan Dorsey
Naya Rivera has been acting since childhood but it wasn’t until 2009 that she got her big break as the lesbian cheerleader, Santana Lopez, on the musical comedy-drama TV series, Glee. Her character was known for her impressive vocals and mean streak, which would sometimes go from hilarious bitchy one-liners to actual aggressive outbursts. Apparently, that wasn’t just acting, as the public learned that Naya has quite the temper in real life. After turbulent high-profile relationships with costar, Mark Salling and the rapper, Big Sean, Naya married Ryan Dorsey in 2014 and they had a son in 2015. She filed for divorce in 2016 but they called it off in October of 2017. In November of 2017, Naya was arrested for domestic violence against Dorsey and although the charges were dropped, the divorce is very much back on!
4 Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were without a doubt the biggest superstar couple of this decade. Known to the media as Brangelina, the pair met in 2005 while filming the movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and they caused quite a bit of controversy due to speculations that Pitt left then-wife, Jennifer Aniston for Jolie. Jolie admits to falling in love with Pitt on set but denies any involvement with him while he was still married. They have three biological children together and Pitt has adopted Jolie’s children that she had adopted before they started dating. They finally got married in 2014 after 9 years together but it seems as if marriage doomed their relationship, as Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. They have struggled to keep the details of their yet-to-be-finalized divorce private but it has recently been revealed that they are still working out their divorce settlement.
3 Dennis & Kimberly Quaid
Dennis Quaid is an actor known for both his comedic and his dramatic roles. The younger brother of fellow actor, Randy Quaid, Dennis has received critical acclaim for many of his roles due to the dedication he has demonstrated. This dedication once cost him his health, as he ended up developing an eating disorder and cocaine addiction while losing weight for his role in the movie, Wyatt Earp, in which he portrayed the tuberculosis sufferer, Doc Holliday. He has been married three times, first to the actress, P. J. Soles, then to the actress, Meg Ryan, and then he married a real-estate agent named Kimberly Buffington in 2004. Together, they have twin sons. Kimberly filed for divorce in 2016, with Dennis responding to the split in February of this year.
2 Jeff & Caryn Zucker
CNN Worldwide president, Jeff Zucker (and former co-worker of Matt Lauer!) met his wife, Caryn, while they were both working at NBC. Jeff was the executive producer of Today and Caryn was a supervisor on Saturday Night Live. They got married in 1996 at the Pierre Hotel in a lavish ceremony and have since had three sons and one daughter. Jeff is known for his incredible work ethic, which often goes into a workaholic territory. His workaholic tendencies could be one of the reasons why the couple decided to call it quits in January of 2018, after 21 years of marriage. Apparently, things hadn’t been great for the past 10 years and the couple decided that their split was long overdue. They have decided to remain friends for the kids’ sake.
1 Jesse Williams & Aryn Drake-Lee
Jesse Williams has starred as Dr. Jackson Avery on the long-running ABC medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy since 2009 and although many characters have been killed off over the years, his character is safe for now. The same definitely can’t be said for his marriage. He married his longtime girlfriend, Aryn Drake-Lee, in 2012, with whom he has two children but the couple filed for divorce in 2017. The former lovebirds are currently engaged in a bitter divorce and custody battle, with rumors and claims that Jesse had been unfaithful to Aryn, especially because he started dating his fellow actress, Minka Kelly, not long after the divorce was announced. They’ve broken up in the meantime but things are still nasty between him and Aryn, who’s claiming that he violated their custody agreement of not introducing a partner to their children if they’ve been dating for less than 6 months.
