What will your best friend call you after you suddenly become a member of the royal family? Should they address you with your full title? Apparently, Meghan Markle’s best friends have that same dilemma.
Meghan’s official royal title now is Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, but she won’t make her friends call her that. Daniel Martin, Meghan’s close friend has asked how he should address her after the Royal Wedding. Martin told People Magazine that he expressed his confusion with his friend of 10 years as he was helping her achieve the perfect beauty look on her special day. “I asked her that,” he recalled. "Do I bow to you? I don’t want to disrespect you. She started laughing and she said, ‘I’m always going to be Meg.”
Martin is a professional makeup artist, who works as the creative consultant for Honest Beauty and Dior Beauty brand ambassador. Meghan is no longer a Hollywood actress, which means she won’t need glamorous touch-up that's only required for the red carpet. But the humble Meg will always be a dear to her friends. “Meg is always going to be Meg, that’s how it is!” Martin said. Although, the makeup artist also added that “next time I see them I will be respectful and know my protocol.”
He recalled that on the day of the fairytale wedding, the royal bride “was very cool, she was regular Meghan.” He thought that everyone was somehow nervous, but all five people around Meghan during the prepping process keep it calm so the bride wouldn't be any more nervous than she already was. Martin also told People that Meghan stayed off her phone as they caught up by talking about mutual friends during the beauty session.
Aside from Meg, Markle shared that she has many cute nicknames that her family and her friends usually use. Her mother, Doria Ragland called her “Flower” ever since she was a child. Her father, Thomas Markle apparently refers to her as “Bean.” She wrote in an article on her old lifestyle blog that she also goes with MM, M&M, Nutmeg when talking to her friends. All those silly but adorable nicknames can probably still be kept whenever Meghan doesn’t have to be a Duchess in front of her parents and her long-time friends.
