With Christmas day quickly approaching, many families have begun preparing their homes for the usual bout of holiday festivities and making sure everything is in tip-top shape for relatives to come and enjoy. But rather than simply baking a batch of gingerbread cookies or lighting a scented candle, why not ready your home and impress dinner guests by helping it smell like delicious fried chicken?
Last week, the fast-food retailer KFC began selling a limited edition firelog, Mandatory reported. When the log is lit, it fills the user's home with the unmistakable scent of the company's signature blend of 11 herbs and spices, effectively turning any house into a cozy fried chicken haven.
"At KFC, we have always been proud of our role in bringing loved ones together at the dinner table around a bucket of our world-famous fried chicken," KFC's chief marketing officer, Andrea Zahumensky, explained in a statement. "Now, this winter we're bringing all the things we love - family, friends and fried chicken - together around the fire with our scented firelog."
The limited-edition logs were produced in partnership with Enviro-Log and are made of 100 percent recycled materials which can keep a fireplace lit for up to three hours. They are appropriately titled as the "11 Herbs & Spices Fire Log" and retailed for the price of $18.99 USD. Unfortunately for any intrigued KFC lovers out there, the logs, which the company warns may "attract bears or neighbors who are hungry," quickly sold out just hours after they were launched.
"Boy howdy, did those go fast!" KFC tweeted after the logs sold out. "Apologies to those who weren't able to snag one, and to those who did, enjoy the best smelling fire you've ever smelled in your life!"
This would not be the first time KFC has released a limited edition product. According to Canoe, the company has previously released 3,000 bottles of what was dubbed "Colonel Sanders' Extra Crispy Sunscreen," in 2016. This product was exactly what it sounds like - a bottle of sunscreen with the "finger-lickin'-good" scent of fried chicken in its lotion.
Perhaps in an attempt to truly outdo itself, in 2017 KFC offered what they called a "Zinger Meteorite," which was quite literally a 400-year old meteorite from space carved into the shape of one of their zinger sandwiches. The unique product retailed on their website for $20,000, which seems like a hefty price to pay for a sandwich you can't even eat.
