Here are some of the shockers of the year and some that didn’t quite make it to the top. The general verdict is a raised eyebrow by everyone. So let’s check out 5 of the surprises and 5 of the snubs this Grammy year.

Bon Iver (Shocked)

Bon Iver really hasn’t done all that great this year with I, I peaking at just No. 26 on the charts. “Hey, Ma” seems to be in line for record of the year. Now, where did this all come from? None of the music critics have gotten this one right and it comes as a real shock to all. They could also be up for Best Alternative Music Album, which will be the icing on the cake. Bon Iver clearly has some great chances this year with at least two of the top three category nominations. Wait for the big day to find out if they succeed.

Jonas Brothers (Snubbed)

So what if Nick and his brothers have been popular all year on the social scene with their respective marriages? That didn’t help with the Grammy nominations, one bit. The Jonas Brothers just managed to get one non-genre nomination. This is not something that anyone expected, especially with their comeback album. The forecasters will be scratching their heads for a while trying to figure this one out. The great singles on the album are all wonderful and should have earned them some more nominations in the main categories. It looks like the Grammy committee was too busy looking at the wedding albums and not the music albums!

Tanya Tucker (Shocked)

Tanya Tucker seems to carry the beacon of the over-40 category with pride, especially since she has been nominated for three awards in the country category. The real shocker was when the nominations mentioned her getting one in the all-genre Song of the Year category. Her song “Bring My Flowers Now” has earned this nomination and will be shared with Brandi Carlile, and Tim and Phil Hanseroth. With four nominations on the way, Tanya Tucker is surely a name to look out for at the ceremony.

Maggie Rogers and Lewis Capaldi (Snubbed)

From the newcomers, the forecasters predicted top nominations for Maggie Rogers and Lewis Capaldi. But that was not the case. Even though Capaldi has been on the top of the charts for the third week now, he just gets one nomination, which is for Song of the Year. As for Maggie Rogers, who has been on the top for the whole year, it has been bad news all the way. All she got was a Best New Artist nomination. Others who didn’t quite make the list were Summer Walker and Megan Thee Stallion. The snubs this year are truly extraordinary.

H.E.R. (Shocked)

H.E.R. is one of the best surprises for the 2020 Grammys. She has been on a roll at the Grammys from the previous year. She has landed five nominations again this year! The top album, song and record categories are all there for her to take. How has this happened with her album, I Used to Know Her reaching a mere 86 on the charts? She surely is a surprise for everyone, especially after her big nominations last year. This is not something the Grammys are known to do. Let’s see how she finishes the year this time.

Rock Stars Get No Mention (Snubbed)

Although the newbie rock stars got mentioned in the 2020 Grammys, the popular standbys were ignored. The Black Keys and Raconteurs are rock stars who have topped the charts with their albums. They are so popular among the fans that they have easily sold out arenas. So, how come there’s no mention in the nominations? Tool got one nomination, as did 1975. An Album of the Year nomination was given to Vampire Weekend and a nod for Producer of the Year was given to Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys). The Grammy committee seemed to snub the lead rock singers and this is something that breaks our hearts.

Rock Stars We Didn’t Know About (Shocked)

Another surprise this year is the rock category where we didn’t expect new names to make it. Rival Sons got nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance. Bones UK also got a nod for Best Rock Performance, while I Prevail is up for Best Metal Performance. These are not the popular names that we expected to get nominations. A Best New Artist nomination was picked up by Black Pumas, an Austin, Texas group. The rock category has blown our minds as every year is a big surprise with the Grammy nominations.

Maren Morris (Snubbed)

Maren Morris had some great wins at the CMA Awards for her country album, Girl but didn’t get a mention in this year’s Grammy nominations. She was the choice of many forecasters due to her good streak at the country awards. They also thought she would get nominations for Song of the Year as well as Record of the Year. But the Grammy committee didn’t agree and all she got was a nomination for a duet that she sang with Brandi Carlile called “Common.” This nomination was for the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category.

Yola (Shocked)

Among the top 5 surprises are Yola’s nominations for New Artist, Best American Roots Performance, Best Americana Song and Best Americana Album categories. She marched ahead of other newbies like Capaldi and Rogers. Her single “Faraway Look” along with the album Walk Through Fire won her the four nominations. Her producer, Dan Auerbach, earned a nomination too. Yola is a force to reckoned with and we are sure she will grab a Grammy this year. Keep a lookout for her at this 2020 Grammy award ceremony, where surprises seem to rule the day. Yola may just walk away with all four of the category wins.

Taylor Swift (Snubbed)

Even though Taylor Swift is one of the top-selling artists with a two-time Album of the Year winner, she had no luck at the Grammy nominations this year. Her album Reputation didn’t quite live up to its name. Her previous album Lover has three nods, including a Song of the Year nomination for the title track. That’s all that she got! Nothing more! Not even the Album or Record of the Year categories. It’s a total snub that makes us cringe. Her fans will not be happy with the Grammy committee for this disaster.
