If you love Facebook, the social media platform is glad that you love them. But, they are also hoping you spend a little less time on their app and more time balancing your health and wellness.
The company appears to be testing a new feature that shows you how much time you're spending, and often wasting, on Facebook, and the feature is meant, in part, to remind users to take breaks from the app.
The company wants you to use their app, but they also want to ensure they're getting back on the good side of their user-base, the media, the FTC and everyone that is starting to feel like Facebook is becoming too much a part of their everyday lives. They may have a point as millions of users are on the app for hours on any given day.
According to Mashable, with the new feature, you can set alerts to tell you how long you've been on the app, you can see statistics of your usage and time spent per day by the minute. The feature will allow you to manage your time and the idea is to do "other things" besides just scroll your Facebook wall and miss out on "real life". Instagram is also offering a similar feature as more and more people spend time on their app.

Outside of this new feature, Facebook has visibly changed the way their platform allows users to post content. From blocking certain posts to businesses being declined the posting of particular ads, the scrutiny Facebook underwent as they were run through the ringer by The Federal Trade Commission has woken Mark Zuckerberg up and Facebook is making changes. Perhaps being investigated after Cambridge Analytica was able to access to the personal data of some 50 million Facebook users will do that.
Companies like Facebook are consistently facing criticism over their addictive qualities and the company's new approach to focusing on "time well spent" is just one of many ways Facebook intends to show its users, and anyone who will listen, that they care.
