Disneyland Hong Kong has closed for a third time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The park, which first closed on January 26, reopened again in June, but was shuttered in July before reopening in September. On Monday, Disney announced that the park would close due to new restrictions enacted as a result of a surge in coronavirus cases.

Disneyland Hong Kong was the second Disney property to reopen after Shanghai Disneyland, which first closed in January due to the pandemic. The park will close on December 2 and currently has no plans to reopen. Currently, Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Resort in Southern California remain closed, while Walt Disney World in Florida, Shanghai Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Resort are open.

In California, Downtown Disney and a part of California Adventure is open for shopping and outdoor dining, yet the theme park has been battling with the state to reopen for months. Gov. Gavin Newsom recently announced that theme parks would remain closed due to a surge of coronavirus cases in the state.

Hong Kong Disneyland, which opened on Monday, 12 September, 2005, was designed in accordance to the rules of feng shui. As an example, a bend was put in a walkway near the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort entrance so good qi energy would not flow into the South China Sea.

The park features seven themed areas: Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, and Toy Story Land. The park's cast members speak Cantonese, English, and Mandarin and guide maps are printed in traditional and simplified Chinese as well as English.

The park, which has a daily capacity of 34,000 visitors, the lowest of all Disneyland parks, attracted 5.2 million visitors in its first year and has hosted over 25 million guests since. According to AECOM and TEA, Hong Kong Disneyland is the 13th most visited theme park in the world in 2013, with 7.4 million visitors.
