Colin Farrell has been spotted in character as Penguin on the set of The Batman in Liverpool. The Irish actor was unrecognizable at a funeral scene that also featured Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman) and Zoë Kravitz (Selina Kyle/Catwoman).

In August, fans got their first glimpse of Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin when the trailer debuted, yet the new images reveal an extreme transformation with prosthetics and a wig that leave the 44-year-old looking like a much older, heavier actor.

The film, which has been delayed until 2022 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, was shooting its latest scene outside St George's Hall in Liverpool. After a brief hiatus due to Pattinson testing positive for the coronavirus, filming resumed recently.

In an interview with GMA News, Farrell said he was looking forward to getting back to work, saying, "I had only started it and I can't wait to get back. The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it.

"I haven't got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means. But there are a couple of some tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I can't wait to get back,” he added. "Yeah, I totally feel like it is something that I have not had the opportunity to explore before. It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can't wait to get back and really get into it."

This will be the first time the Penguin appears in a Batman film since he was played by Danny DeVito in Batman Returns in 1992. DeVito recently told Collider, "I haven't spoken to him since, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think that no matter what, he's gonna be great because he's a great actor. The only thing he has to worry about is that Oswald Cobblepot will show up at his house”

The Batman is set to be released on March 4, 2022.
