Hollywood romances are made and broken every single day. For many actors, love is perhaps just an inevitability of working together so closely. As was the case with Joey King and Jacob Elordi who starred in the new Netflix film The Kissing Booth. Or Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart who both may enjoy their privacy, but can't deny that "Bughead" is going strong, both on and off of Riverdale. Kit Harington has also benefitted from Game of Thrones in many ways, but none perhaps better than it being where he found his future wife.
But for every romance that you may have been able to predict, are relationships that surely make you scratch your head. Such as Jeremy Meeks who turned his mugshot into a relationship with Chloe Green whose father is worth billions. Or Jeff Goldblum who first became a father in his 60s, but that may make more sense when you learn that his wife is 30 years younger than he is. But Goldblum doesn't represent the largest age gap on our list, as Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have 32 years between them.
And as shocking as you may think it is that Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande is the newest couple in Hollywood, you may be even more stunned when you learn that he has gotten several tattoos to commemorate their relationship. Which means that even if few were able to predict their pairing that at the very least he is feeling very strongly about it!
These are the 8 Celebrity Romances That Nobody Saw Coming (And 7 People Saw a Mile Away)
15 Nobody Saw - Olivier Sarkozy and Mary-Kate Olsen
If you grew up with Full House then you may have been interested in just how shocking some of the decisions the cast made after their time on the show ended. Such as Jodie Sweetin who ended up battling a significant substance abuse problem. Or Mary-Kate Olsen who definitely turned some heads when she started dating Olivier Sarkozy, who is 17 years older than her. The two started dated when Olivier was 42 and Mary-Kate was 25, leading Olivier's ex-wife, Charlotte, to comment,
"That's not right. It's grotesque."
Which seems to indicate that Mary-Kate may not have the best relationship with her! When talking about her life, as well as how it is impacted by the fact that she is also running a fashion company with her sister, Mary-Kate stated,
"I think we're lucky. [Working hard] comes quite naturally for us. We don't need so much time to sit and think and ponder. But then I have a husband, two stepkids and a life; I have to go home and cook dinner. I ride horses on the weekends. You find the thing that helps you relax, and if you don't have it, you have to look for it. Or you get burned out, and then you're not productive."
14 Everybody Saw - Kit Harington and Rose Leslie
Game of Thrones is not only one of the best shows of all-time, it also helped start the love between Rose Leslie and Kit Harington. When describing how the two fell in love, he stated,
"Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love. If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it's becomes very easy to fall in love."
He also expressed the importance of their connection away from the screen and how it was displayed through their acting, "We really get on as friends and we hit it off very quickly when we first met and I think that reflects on screen, because we've got a good dialogue going on off screen."
Which means that nobody may have been more disappointed that Ygritte was written out of the show more than Harington! It is also interesting to note that the two did separate in 2013 for a year, before finding themselves back into each other's arms. We are sure knowing about their relationship is going to make it even more fun to go back and watch the two's chemistry develop on the screen.
13 Nobody Saw - Jeremy "Hot Felon" Meeks and Chloe Green
When you grow up you are hopefully taught that being a criminal is not something that would benefit your life. But for Jeremy Meeks, getting taken in on charges ended up being the best thing that ever happened to him. His mugshot quickly went viral and he was dubbed the very flattering nickname as the "Hot Felon".
At the time of his popularity surge, Meeks was married to a woman named Melissa. But after Meeks went on a modeling trip to Turkey in 2017, photos emerged of him getting intimate with the Topshop heiress Chloe Green. Her father, Sir Phillip Green, owns the retail giant Arcadia, which has an estimated net worth of close to $5 billion.
Though Jeremy has denied that he gained an interest in Chloe because of her money,
"I love Chloe for her and if she didn’t have a dollar I wouldn’t give a sh*t because we’re so happy. Her dad has never questioned me on my past or made me feel uncomfortable and I’m not scared of what he thinks of me because he knows his daughter. He knows her and he knows that if she’s in love she won’t have chosen someone who isn’t right.
Things have continued to escalate for Chloe and Jeremy who announced that their first child, a son named Jayden, was born on May 29th.
12 Everybody Saw - Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively
We are sure that Ryan Reynolds would not fight us too hard if we wanted to say that Green Lantern is not worth your time. But the movie did have a huge positive for Reynolds, as it's where his friendship with Blake Lively started. A friendship that turned to more in a very unconventional way, as told by Blake,
"About a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single we went on a double date—[Blake] was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl—and it was like the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across… We were buddies for a long time, which I think is the best way to have a relationship, to start as friends.”
The two's marriage has stayed strong as they've welcomed 2 children to the mix, something that Lively also admitted to PEOPLE is due to a strict rule that they follow about work,
"My husband and I don’t work at the same time, so we all go together as a family. If we’re away as a family, it’s never more than for a day. We stay together.”
11 Nobody Saw - Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson is one of the few celebrities who has had the honor of appearing on Saturday Night Live on 5 separate occasions. So perhaps it shouldn't be considered too shocking that it was a member of Saturday Night Live that was able to win over her affections. Colin Jost is a mainstay on the program for his role on Weekend Update alongside Michael Che.
The two started dating in May 2017 but waited until April 2018 before finally taking a step out on the red carpet together, as he joined her for Avengers: Infinity War. Both Johansson and Jost have kept their relationship relatively quiet. Jost did, however, say back in September 2017,
"She's pretty cool. It's hard to have a lot of complaints, she's pretty awesome."
But Johansson's two past marriages, one to Ryan Reynolds and one to Romain Dauriac, may indicate that she's just enjoying life with Jost right now and taking it day by day. Let's also just hope that Jost doesn't mind doing long-distance because something tells us that Johansson's future days on the Avengers team means many long days on the set and perhaps even longer days traveling around the world promoting the film.
10 Everybody Saw - Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis
There are some marriages in Hollywood that if they fell apart, some people would admit that they weren't the most surprised. That isn't the case for Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, whose relationship ending would definitely blow many people away. The two met when working together on That '70s Show and have been married since 2015. One thing that may re-affirm your faith in this couple, is our next quote from Kunis,
"My husband does not annoy me. He really doesn't. I don't know if this happens later. We've only been married for a handful of years. You know, it's very much in the honeymoon phase of things..."
She continued with, "We still really love and like each other daily. We really do. And I know that's not what people want to hear... I have an unbelievable partner in crime, I really do, and I'm so grateful for it every single day." The two also have two children together, a daughter who they named Wyatt and a son, named Dimitri. When talking about her children back in October 2017, Kunis stated,
"My 10-month-old, depending if he's going through a sleep regression, it's a little rough but doesn't annoy me. And my 3-year-old doesn't annoy me yet, either. She's inquisitive and curious and wants to know about life and things and how everything functions... It's everything wonderful and beautiful. I'm just not at the annoyed state yet."
Nobody Saw - Jeff Goldblum and Emilie Livingston
Jeff Goldblum became an iconic figure in many people's lives after he appeared in the Jurassic Park franchise back in 1993. But if his wife, Emilie Livingston, went to see him in the first movie, she would have only been 10 years old.
Because while Jeff and Emilie are seemingly very much in love, at 65 and 35, they are one of the biggest age gaps in Hollywood. When talking about their relationship, Goldblum stated,
"I'm happy as a clam with her. I feel lucky, lucky, lucky...When people meet Emilie, they say she's magical and very sweet and they're happy for me."
The two were married in 2014 and have 2 children together, both sons one named Charlie (2015) and the other, River (2017). It was the first time that Goldblum became a father, "I never seriously considered it until Emilie. I'm at a different place now. I was enthusiastic to marry her and try to have a baby." While it may not be recommended to become a Dad in your 60s, we hope Goldblum will manage to be a tremendous father.
This is the third marriage for Goldblum as he was previously married to Patricia Gaul from 1980 to 1986, and actress Geena Davis from 1987 until 1990.
9 Everybody Saw - Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart
One of the most talked about shows on the CW Network is Riverdale. And while sometimes the writing can seem overly cheesy, that's hardly the fault of the actors who just need to deliver whatever it is on the page. But the love between Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse is something that is displayed both on the screen, and in real life. When talking about the amount of tabloid attention their relationship receives, Cole stated
"Lili and I are constantly talked about in the public eye, and for me, I think that it is being deeply informed by the love of the characters and wanting to see us together. I think that in many ways it’s offensive and an invasion of privacy, but it’s also a badge of honor because it means you’re creating a chemistry onscreen that is so understandable that people want to see it in real life, which is flattering from a professional perspective.”
Lili Reinhart also wants people to respect her privacy about their relationship,
"It’s not like I’m in some kind of contract, but I’m not in the place where I want to talk about it, and that’s totally fine. It’s called a private life for a reason—it’s mine, and it’s special and sacred. My relationships are between me and whomever I’m with, not between me and the world.”
8 Nobody Saw - Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere
Hayden Panettiere first got her taste of success when she appeared on the television show Heroes. In fact, she even found success away from the camera as a result of the show. As Panettiere dated co-star Milo Ventimiglia from November 2008 until February 2009.
But Panettiere went far away from Hollywood for her relationship with her current fiance, Wladimir Klitschko who is a Ukranian boxer. The two also have a child together, as Hayden gave birth to a girl who they named Kaya. Hayden admitted back in 2014 to just how unlikely the two look as a couple,
"We were friends for a year first. On paper, a relationship between the two of us looked crazy. From where we live to where we come from, the differences in our lives are fairly big. On the surface, everything about us is unalike. But at our core, our morals and goals in life are very similar, so our differences become a lot less terrifying… I'm in awe of what he does and who he is – that's a very strong feeling. He doesn't let me get away with things; he has the patience of a saint, but he is definitely no shrinking violet."
She also went on to praise one of his unexpected areas,
"Wladimir is not just a boxer; he's smart [he has a PhD in philosophy and sports science] and caring. It's been a ride!"
7 Everybody Saw - Aaron Rodgers and Danica Patrick
When Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. called it quits, many people thought that she may have been riding the single train for a while. As was the potential expectation of Aaron Rodgers who had only recently ended his relationship with Olivia Munn. But both of them ended their potential quest through loneliness when they started canoodling. And while that may seem shocking, anyone who knew either of them may not have been stunned. The two first met at the 2012 ESPY awards and clearly kept in at least some form of contact.
"We've just been sort of friends the whole time, kept in vague touch and seen each other at the ESPYs almost every year, and other places. So one thing led to another, and we realized how similar we were, and yeah, that got the ball rolling," said Patrick when talking about their relationship. The fact that her career has recently ended also may have had an influence on her being more than happy to become Rodgers biggest cheerleader. She also went on to say,
"We both just have similar hobbies and interests - the kind of life that we live and wanting to travel and various different things, liking dogs." Though she did admit that while she has always been a big fan of Aaron Rodgers, her team allegiance prior to this was to their hated rivals, the Chicago Bears!
"Now I'm going to cheer for the whole team," said Patrick. You got that right!
6 Nobody Saw - Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner knows a thing or two about being in the public spotlight due to a show you may have heard of, Game of Thrones. But when she started turning up in public with Joe Jonas by her side, people were definitely a bit surprised. Especially because Joe has an extensive past history with women, including being at the center of several not so pleasant Taylor Swift songs.
But at least if Sophie and Joe call it off, he probably won't have to hear her sing about their failed engagement in songs that are then heard by millions of people. When talking about the positive influence of the relationship on her life, Sophie revealed,
“I very much isolated myself for a while and forgot what was fun. Going out with friends, going out to eat, not really having a car. And people I’ve met recently in my life have drawn me out of that. It really helps you own those insecurities. The things I tortured myself about before, I can forget about.”
Perhaps this is also why the two are often seen goofing off when they notice the paparazzi, as it could help her with her insecurities to just try and have fun with it.
5 Everybody Saw - Jacob Elordi and Joey King
Netflix has definitely put out a lot of films that are not worth your time. But that does not seem to be the case with their recent romantic comedy, The Kissing Booth. The movie stars Molly Ringwald, but it's the two teens Joey King and Jacob Elordi who found love on the movie set.
"Well, I thought he was very cute when we first met, but it started as a friendship...Right away we were talking about gross things with each other. But before long I started to realize, “Hey, I think I kind of like this person!”.
It was such an interesting experience meeting your boyfriend on set because you spend so much time together and become so close so fast. She went on: ‘We were spending 17 hours a day together, and all of us would hang out after work and watch movies together and stuff. It was great," said Joey when discussing how the two got closer. Which means that she and Jacob may agree that being able to star in their own movie was really only the 2nd best thing about working on The Kissing Booth.
Elordi recently also got cast in an upcoming HBO series, Euphoria, that stars Zendaya.
4 Nobody Saw - Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor
Hollywood is no stranger to relationships that have extreme age gaps. But Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor may be the biggest gap between a same-gender relationship. When the two started dating back in 2016, Paulson was 41 and Taylor, 73.
“My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the last interesting thing about me. But I do feel a bit unconventional. I am a woman of a certain age who chose not to have children, and who has made my career my priority. I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone else to validate that, or tell me it’s okay," said Paulson when discussing her relationship.
She went on to say that she thought Holland was the most beautiful woman she's ever seen, as well as saying,
"If my life choices had to be predicted based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that's going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don't want to feel that. What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor."
This is not the first big age gap in a relationship for Paulson who previously had dated Cherry Jones who was 18 years older.
3 Everybody Saw - Caleb Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe
The latest season of American Idol ended with Maddie Poppe being announced as the winner of the show. But at the end of the day, runner-up Caleb Hutchinson also got to feel like a winner when the two announced that they had started dating.
"We met during Hollywood Week [in January]. I was out in the audience, and I remember seeing him thinking, ‘Ahh.’ I heard him sing and he was incredible. He was the standout of the day for me and I thought I had to get him in my group for the group round and I did. We were in group round together and they didn’t air it but we’re getting that footage. After that, we hung out every day. And we started dating about three months ago," said Poppe when talking about their relationship.
They were awarded a trip to Hawaii to celebrate, which will hopefully help keep their relationship going strong!
Caleb was also far from a sore loser, as he later said online,
"The night couldn’t have gone any better in my opinion. I mean, we walked off stage [before the announcement] and said we didn’t care who won. I couldn’t be more proud of her....MY GIRLFRIEND WON AMERICAN IDOL!!! No one deserved it more than you babe. I am honored to know you and even more honored to call you mine. Don’t forget about me. I love you."
2 Nobody Saw - Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande
Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande are perhaps the most shocking couple to emerge in 2018. But for Pete's sake, let's hope it's a relationship that lasts. As it was recently reported that he decided to get a tattoo of Grande's infamous bunny mask behind his ear. But just in case one tattoo wasn't enough, he also decided to get her initials tattooed on his thumb.
"Everyone thinks they're really cute together. People don't realize what a great sense of humor she has. It makes them a good match," said an insider for E! News.
Grande had previously ended a relationship with Mac Miller which she described as being toxic. Davidson had also gotten out of a relationship recently to Cazzie David, who is the daughter of the comedic legend, Larry David. Davidson has received some criticism for engaging in a relationship with Grande even though he has recently come out and stated he was suffering from borderline personality disorder. Though he did shut down some of those haters by saying,
"Normally I wouldn’t comment on something like this. But I been hearing a lot of ‘people with BPD can’t be in relationships’ talk. I just wanna let you know that’s not true. Just because someone has a mental illness does not mean they can’t be happy and in a relationship. It also doesn’t mean that person makes the relationship toxic."
1 Everybody Saw - Matthew Koma and Hilary Duff
There are some people in Hollywood that just can't seem to stay apart for too long. It seems like Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma are two people that we can definitely feel confident saying that about. While she previously had a marriage to Mike Comrie who she divorced back in 2016, with whom she also had a son with, Comrie is definitely not going to be re-entering the dating picture anytime soon. Duff and Koma, on the other hand, have been "official" on three different occasions and when they started spending time together after their 2nd break, we're sure many people saw the writing on the wall.
When talking about her relationship back in May that is now again a few months old, Duff admitted
"It's going so great, this is the third time we dated. Timing is such a big deal and 3rd time's a charm! I think that you have history and a past with someone and love, and just because it doesn't work out the first time, the second time, as long as there's not too much damage done, then, it can always work out again,"
While we are sure there are many men in Hollywood who are going to be hoping that Koma and Duff call it quits, but as of now, it looks like this may be one of the safest bets in Hollywood.
